Ok...we are all gamers here, and if you arent then you really have no life.

Jack Thompson is and should be the enemy of all gamers like us. He hates what we do, he wants to eradicate all that makes us happy and keeps us entertained. And not to mention, hes old.

So, in light of the presence of this wonderfully sinister man, this thread is for you to insult Jack Thompson. Its kinda like the "Insult The Person Above You Thread" just...its all about Jackie boy. GO!

It is unfair to attack anyone, even Jack Thompson, personally, for none of us know him. But, from his policies, attempts to attack the videogaming industry and various forum/website trawling (you'll find him often complaining on the gamepolitics.com comments underneath articles. That is where he did his attack on Bioshock with his trademark "hoo ha" or w.e. it is at the end).

This man, in a word, is naive. He does not realise the truth of videogames - THEY'RE NOT REAL! Its him, plus the red-tops (the tabloids in the UK e.g. the Sun - it'd be like the New York Post or w.e.) which destroy this great art-form. He does not understand it - thus, he automatically attacks and makes a fair few $$ out of it.

I mean, even the republican heartland of California (I think... tell me if wrong) tried to bar him and got him to take a physchological test - IF THEY REALISE THE TRUTH! :P

And we're seeing more of this by good old Arnie. Idiotic. One of the few positives for economic and cultural globilisation is the general bringing down of restrictions. Swearwords become less and less powerful, violence regulation of films is brought down (anyone seen Saw?) and yet we are going backwards on videogames.

And you think you have it bad with your ESRB? We have the optional PEGI rating system, similar to ESRB, THEN THE BBFC (British Board of FILM [NOT GAME] CLASSIFICATION) who can then add LEGAL AND CRIMINAL ratings... so if I were to go and buy San Andreas (an 18 BBFC) not only could I be punished for illegally buying it but the shop would be punished severly. YET YOU'RE ONLY JUST CAMPAIGNING AGAINST THIS? Call yourselves lucky...

I really really dont like Jack Thompson, I think hes a looney. I mean I would never ever ever cause him any physical harm, but since I am a very honest person I would let him know how I felt about him and his antics.

He finds the most small, trivial things that happen in the news, and he tries his best to fit them in relation to video games and media.

(Quote from QJ.net)

"Anti-violent video games lawyer Jack Thompson doesn't spend his free time educating parents about M-rated games. Instead, he sends his own 15-year old son in a mission to get a copy of Take-Two's BioShock (Xbox 360, PC ) something that should be in the hands of adults. Back when the child was 10, he also made him purchase Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

According to the email Thompson sent Joystiq, the ace attorney is trying to prove that "hyperviolent and sex-themed Manhunt 2 (Wii, PSP, PS2) and Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360, PS3) will be widely sold to kids of all ages despite promises by Take-Two, the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), and major retailers."

Thompson also demands to fire the Best Buy's store manager and the female clerk who sold the game to his son. "The entire video game age rating system is a fraud perpetrated upon American families from sea to shining sea," he said after using his own child to demonstrate such fraud."

This man is a pure *******.

Jack Thompson eats dick. I hate how he just assumes everything is because of videogames. I wouldn't be surprised if he said somthing like "Videogames are for terrorists" or "Everytime you play a videogame a kitten dies". Man I hate that guy...

DShizzle1029

Well by the quote I posted on the first page, thats sheer evidence (not like anyone didnt know, but) that he LOOKS for trouble. That man instigated tension by sending his son into the store to buy a game under age. If you look over a certain age, you dont get IDed for mature rated games. His son probably looks older than 17...so therefore he didnt get IDed...

Jack Thompson deserves an award for man of the year for being the biggest vaginal fart to ever exist in this generation.

I dont think he will ever go away even if people stop lavishing him with attention. Hes apparently made it his lifes goal to bring down the gaming industry and make every patron of media miserable and annoyed. Plus, just the way humans are built, they wont stop giving him attention......sick how it all works really.

Not to bump an old thread, but it's just too funny.

Jack Thompson and Take Two (creator of the GTA series) are butting heads. Take Two has included a mission in GTA4 to assassinate "an unnamed lawyer with an anti-video games agenda".

Jack is threatening to sue even though this sort of thing is covered by parody rights. Take Two also has some sort of cease and desist against Jacko for harassment, and then they provoke him like this as a proverbial slap to the face.

Two corrections for the once sentence. He's a Florida lawyer (he passed his psych test, btw...don't ask me how.. he's bat**** insane). And two, i don't think anyone would ever call California the republican heartland of the US. Quite the opposite. (Don't let the Reagan and the Arnie fool you... they just can't stop loving the movie stars.)

Here is the problem I have with Mr.Thompson:

It's not that he is not informed about video games and tries to have them banned. I think he makes himself look like an idiot. That is his problem not mine.

It's not even the fact that he sent his under age son to get an M rated game. Now, I think the stores should be checking ages but it is hard for places like Best Buy. They have kids themselves selling them. If the clerk is 16 and plays the game he/she is not going to deny a kid the game.

The problem is that he is trying to 'help' kids when their parents should be doing it. He wants the government to step in and raise this nation's children. If you want to inform parents that there are games out there not fit for their 13 year old that is fine. But then leave it up to the parents to say 'yes or no'. Parents 10 years ago still thought video games were only a kids game. Now it's starting to get to the point were parents are playing with their kids. I know a couple of people with kids around 10 that play together. NES came out 20 years ago. Those people that played it are now in the late 20's early 30's and have kids that play now. We (I'm 28 but with no kids) know all about games. Mr. Thompson should screw up his own kids and let everyone else do it to theirs.

hmm, i wonder if we could counter Thompson's claims that video games are making kids violent, by claiming that every day a kid acted out in violence, it was confirmed that that same day Thompson had 'consumed food'. So, naturally, if Thompson is forced to stop 'consuming food' then perhaps the young violence will stop in the world, by his own logic anyway.

Just picking random crap and claiming it's the cause for some terrible issue in the world is useless. Movies, music, games, are not causing this. The few cases in the world involving violence and violent video games are nowhere near the ratio of children who ARE sane and normal and also play those same violent video games. Time to start rethinking your whole case there Thompson.

Ok, heres another reason (especially for you Halo fans) for dislike in Jack's direction.

http://gamepolitics.com/2007/09/21/jack-thompson-seeks-to-have-halo-3-declared-a-public-nuisance-block-its-release-in-florida/

"With the video game event of the year - the Halo 3 launch - just days away, game-hatin? attorney Jack Thompson is apparently seeking to re-create one of his greatest non-triumphs.

Although he failed miserably with a similar bid against Rockstar?s Bully in 2006, Thompson hopes to have a Florida court declare Halo 3 a public nuisance. He promised as much late last year (see: Jack Thompson Vows More Public Nuisance Suits Against Games in 2007).

No surprise, really, that Halo 3 is in the media-hungry attorney?s crosshairs. Thompson seems to prefer rattling his saber when high-profile game releases are involved. In his latest attention grab Thompson has released the text of what appears to be a court filing in the 11th Circuit, the same jurisdiction in which he failed embarrassingly during last year?s Bully case.

Once again, Thompson is basing his claim on a Florida statute which defines public nuisances as that which:

?tend[s] to annoy the community, injure the health of the citizens in general, or corrupt the public morals

To get an idea of what the public nuisance law was really designed for, the types of places named in the statute include:

?any house or place of prostitution, assignation, lewdness or place or building where games of chance [i.e., gambling] are engaged in violation of law or any place where any law of the state is violated, shall be deemed guilty of maintaining a nuisance?

GP: Not a video game retailer in the bunch.

As with Bully, Thompson clearly hopes the court will grant him a hearing. Although after last year?s well-publicized Bully performance, which earned Thompson a Bar complaint from presiding Judge Ronald Friedman, that seems unlikely.

More troubling by far are the long term implications of this action. Thompson apparently feels emboldened to invoke Florida?s public nuisance law against any video game he desires to target. That is the essence of censorship and the video game industry cannot allow it to continue on any number of grounds - legal, moral or creative.

He must be trying to argue the last two points on that list. I don't see that ever happening.

Jack Thompson is indeed a fool, but at the same time the fact that such a crazy nut is basically the figuredhead of anti-gaming sentiments almost helps them become more acceptable. His views are so extreme that anyone who doesn't have a strong opinion one way or the other is almost certainly going to disagree with his policies.

Yeah, I just think hes one of those figure heads thats kinda fun to make fun of. Hes passionate about being anti-gaming, and he really is insane in the membrane. I dont really wanna call him "competition", but I dont really know the word for it is. I wouldnt fish with the man, nor ever be seen in public with him, but I think hes fun to keep around, because he gives us gamers someone to snicker at.

Wow... I can't believe I used to live in the same state as that freak... Yeah but from the looks of it with the game "Bully" (which isn't that violent) he might target Rock Band saying some ridiculous comment like "Kids everywhere are going around hitting people with drumsticks. Rock Band is the cause of this!" What an idiot.
