View Full Version : What about voice chat? (HMXSean?)

Kind of a simple question, but will band members be able to talk to one another while in game? If so, what about the singer? As it seems, you plug the microphone into your controller, thus taking space where the headset would go.

Would the 3 other members still be able to talk to each other while the singer sings? Or... will all talking be done in a pre/post game lobby?

Kind of a stupid question, I know. But I haven't really seen this brought up much or at all. Obviously you can plug your headset into you GH 2 controller and go into a private chat with people on your Friend's List... just wondering how voice chat will be handled with Rock Band.

I have wondered this myself.

My instinct or best guess says that there would have to be in some manner, maybe in the lobby or while you're loading for a set.

Why would I guess that?

* Pretty much every title that uses Xbox Live has the voice chat, since it's built into the interface. Nothing is being coded from scratch, its just utilizing a pre-built MS feature.

* Guitar controllers have the headset port used for chatting (Edit: The Xplorer does, I believe the Stratocaster may, but don't know for certain)

* People are going to need to communicate/chat when setting up a gig. Let's say a band gets together for the first time, and wants to discuss which songs to put in their setlist. Let's say they want to argue over who gets to play the drum track and who gets stuck on bass... you'd need voice chat to facilitate getting online gigs set up.

This is all specific to the xbox 360, I can't speak to any other consoles.

Who gets stuck on bass? You trully have no apreciation of the bassist! You intrumentalist!

=P

I hope to know this answer too, Like bfore a song chat could be enbaled for everyone to set up a gig and what not. Then when the song starts everyone can catch (except singer) via headsets?

That'd be my guess at the least, I wanna know this answer as well.

I dont know how it will work for the person singing, but Microsoft requires voice chat in all games (except Final Fantasy I think)

Hey, I plan on playing bass a lot online. As long as I get final say on about half the songs (not playing Reptilia or Go With the Flow). Really, if you pick the right songs, nobody should feel bored any more than anyone else. Just keep it to one boring song per instrument per setlist.

Hehe!! I asked this same question on one of my very first threads, it wasn't to popular then. :D I hope we can get some insights on this now.

I think you should only be able to talk before going into a song after the song starting only the singer should be heard just my opinion.

I have two Xplorers and two dance pads, and the microphone jack doesn't work on any of them. If you try to talk on them, the voice keeps cutting out, rendering it unusable. I don't have this problem on any of my standard controllers. I have seen other people report the same thing.

Whatever the issue is with the microphone port on XBox 360 peripherals, I really hope they get it worked out for Rock Band.

My post was not intended as any disrespect to bass players. (On the contrary I play it all the time in GH2)

It was simply an example that with the upcoming online play, a lot of players may want to flock to certain instruments, and you'd (in theory) need a method to coordinate with your band about who's playing what instrument.

For example, I'm all set to try that murderous drum chart for Don't Fear The Reaper, and then my buddy has the same idea.... I'd need voice chat to get that sorted out and tell off my buddy. :)

The connector on my x-plorer works fine.

That's what I figured. I agree that voice chat is needed. I just doubt there will be a big problem in most bands. If you do have problems, then your band is probably lopsided toward or away from one instrument.
