View Full Version : Recycling DLC

Not sure if this has been brought up before, perhaps it has, but I was wondering what people think about paying for songs they already have (basically, songs from GH 1, 2 and 80s).

I bring this up, because I wonder if HMX would like to avoid reusing songs, not only because it may look cheap on their part, but because they don't want people to flip out over the idea of paying for stuff a second time around.

As DLC, though, it would be an option.

Among other songs, I'd gladly pay a fee to have More Than A Feeling in Rock Band.

Not only would it be fun on drums and vocals, but I wouldn't have to load up GH 1 just to play it on guitar.

If they chose the right songs, I wouldn't mind paying a discounted price for old content. But there is no way I will pay full price for the same songs.

Honestly, I could see paying full price for these songs on Rock Band (for instance, if the Paranoid album was released for DLC, it would reuse two songs from GH.) However, the only request I would make is that Harmonix keeps the price at or below that of the price that we paid for the original songs. The reason that the GHII content pisses me off is that Red Octane was trying to charge me $100 to re-purchase songs that I had originally bought for $40 (Of course, they never did release all of the GH songs. My one request in regards to pricing is that the cost of buying 45 songs is equal to or less than that of buying the game disc. (i.e. $60) As long as the prices are fair, I'm okay with anything.

It seems like this topic is a potential minefield to get right.

You have to get pricing that people are comfortable with for a re-make, re-licensing with the artists, plus any possible legal entanglements relating to the split from the GH2 publishers. That's all in addition to the regular perils of producing content.

Plus, there are a lot of good artists and songs which are new and fresh. It is probably easier and more profitable to just use them.

As an optimist I'd hope they can bring some favorite GH tracks, but the realist in me says there are substantial obstacles in doing so.

maybe a set of 5 songs or so from GH 1 and 2 would be nice, something like

Guitar Hero Hits
---------------------
Sharp Dressed Man
More Than a Feeling
Bark At The Moon
Ace of Spades
Cowboys from Hell

Guitar Hero Hits v.2
-----------------------
Sweet Child O' mine
The Trooper
War Pigs
Bad Reputation
Woman

Guitar Hero Hits V.3
-----------------------
Caught in a Mosh
Metal Health
Heat of the Moment
Nothin' But a Good Time
Round And Round

something like that would be awesome

There are some GH songs I would happily pay full price for in RB, but only if sold singly. I'm not a big fan of having to buy a pack of bad songs to get one good one...it's like having to buy CDs again.

Especially with the full band aspect, there are a lot of songs from the old games that would be amazing in RB (Higher Ground comes to mind). As long as the price is the same or less than the average cost of a song from those games ($1.60 for GH, $1.25 for GH2) I'll buy the songs I enjoyed from those games.

Maybe if they do huge bundle packs they might get by it. All 35 songs from the first game for maybe 40 bucks or something. Somehow bundling seems the easiest way to go, because the consumer usually saves a bit of money.

Or they could just have an online poll, and have everybody pick their 5 fav songs that they play on each GH game, and the top 5 from each game is gonna be in a pack or something.

That might be a bit harder, because there's so many good songs on each game, that somebody's gonna be pissed if their favortiest song isn't in the game.

i realize that im the minority here, but i dont own any GH games (no ps2, no xbox), so i would love to see "recycled" DLC, especially with the uncertainty over ps3 guitars' compatibility with the ps2 games.

I could see casualy releasing the past GH songs in small increments to be a part of non GH related theme packs, album downloads, etc. I don't see what the big deal is if past GH songs were released on this game. This is a different game than GH, there are more ways to play the old GH songs, (in terms of intstruments and cooperative play) so really RB would give the past songs from the GH franchise a new life in music gameing.

I'd love to play some of those songs on different instruments. Slide them out "secretly" among random other songs. :p

I'd rebuy quite a few of the GH songs for RB, especially at 2 bucks a pop.

It would think it would be high on their list, a lot of optional content out quickly.

I'd pay for Hush by Deep Purple since I have no intention of ever buying GH 2 on the 360.

I'd give my soul for Play With Me and Free Bird

Carry on Wayward Son (fun vocals)

Search and Destroy (awesome drum track... see the GH2 bonus vid)

The Trooper (possible for the average joe to out-sing the cover singer :D )

Caught in a Mosh (vocalist challenge, has some very fast lyrics at the beginning)

There' a whole slew of good ones that would translate well. :) Maybe the lack of GH 80's on the 360 is indicative of the desire to get it out in Rock Band in some manner.

I'd gladly pay to get every song from the GH series (including GH3)
I'd love to see them bring all the rock songs from Frequency, Amplitude and Karaoke Rev while they're at it.

There's just so much stuff I would love to play on all the instruments.

I think I'd be most satisfied if old songs were slipped in to other packs.

Y'know, like in the album they were originally part of.

Or maybe if there was a 5 song pack, it could be 4 new songs and an old song, or 3 new songs and 2 old songs even.

Either way, there would need to be more new than old to make it worth my time, since I'm more interested in experiencing new songs than I am reexperiencing old songs on other instruments.

Otherwise the songs would have to be a lower price, which I doubt happening, considering that people are already picky with the prices of rereleased content.

BTW, as far as rereleased songs go, I'm surprised that no one has mentioned War Pigs by Black Sabbath. The drums would be pretty fun.

Yeah there are definitely a few gems I would pay full price for, especially for the Drums and Vocals. Hell the beginning of Freebird is so boring I sing it every time, this way I can get rewarded for it.
