So I've been looking through both this and GH's forums, and I don't really see alot of metal song suggestions. Sure, every now and then someone screams "Metallica" or "Pantera", but really, none of their songs are hard enough to earn their place. There are only a few songs that fit in these games only because they're good, not because they're fun to play. Metallica and Pantera are not those. I'm more leaned towards power, progressive and symphonic metal, like Angra, Opeth, Symphony X and Arch Enemy. These bands have songs that are wonderful listening material, and that should be both challenging and fun to play.
There's also the bands that are excellent, but may be a bit mature for the rating EA might want in the game (Marilyn Manson, System of a Down, Korn). I remember being disappointed in both Laid to Rest and Killing in the Name of, simply because the song wasn't the same with swearing. It's not silly, it's emotional :P
Also, that reminds me. Does people have anything against Death Metal or it's kind? Arch Enemy for example. The songs are brilliant, they are so melodic, the solos make me weep of joy and the lyrics kick ass (not that you can hear them :P), but most people seem to dislike the screams and growls. What do you think is the consensus?
oh, and how come so few recommend songs from Iron Maiden? They're one of the best bands ever!

Do you only read spam threads or something?
Ive seen loads of people ask for Maiden (including myself)
The reason they take swearing out of the game is because they are trying to make money, and this requires making the game available to families and therefore allowing kids to play it. Its not like it needs to have swearing in it.
However, it would be nice if they implemented some feature that allows you to access "explicit content" but only if you have an account with an age over 18 or whatever. Or maybe have the songs as download only to people that can prove they are 18 or over? This would allow a lot more songs to be usable......simply because so many use at least mild swearing in places.
People dont have anywthing against Death metal, its just there are so few fans of it. Remember, people of all ages visit these forums.....its not exactly limited to people that like metal.
Personally, Id love to see the different "extreme" genres of metal incorporated into the game, but I would understand if they didnt want to alienate the wider audience. They really need to make the songlists more flexible, so that you dont have to play every song, that you get to choose what you play on your career somehow, because it is really limiting some amazing songs from being on this game, just because some people might not like it.

It would be awesome if you could have different careers to choose within the game. But it would make the game need so uch songs that it wouldn't work..
maybe I should just wait for "Encore - Metal Edition" :P

I think going too metal might be a bad idea since singing is a big component of the game. Some of it could work well, but a lot of metal out there would encounter a problem when trying to work the vocals into the game for a mainstream audience.

i dont care what music is in here as long as its not any of that screamo ****. They need some metallica MASTER OF PUPPETS!!!

I think they tend to keep the amount of metal in the games to a minimum, but still have enough so the metal fans will say "at least it had these couple of song".
The only 2 reasons i can think of is the repetative nature of a lot of metal song... or maybe just like constant strumming, not mixing it up a lot. And also the crazy screaming no one can understand isn't appealing to a lot of people, especially parents..... But sometimes annoying parents is the point of music.

Metallica is so tight-arsed with their music I'd be very surprised to see it in the game.
As for some heavier metal, I'm not particularly happy with "at least there are a COUPLE songs in the game.." I want a game that suits me, and my tastes. If i need to download a song pack in order to hear Tool, or Isis or whoever else I want to listen to thats fine with me. I understand that not everyone wants to hear these bands. Just like I don't want to play Fall Out Bot, but I'm sure plenty of people DO. Some people don't appreciate the "repetitiveness" of some music, but I'd KILL to be able to play some Glass Prison.
I like the idea someone brought up about having different career paths. Having classic rock, hard rock, soft rock, NWOBHM, Death metal... now THAT would make the game amazing. I don't think having too many songs would be much or a problem anymore. Songs in the game are only a few megs (each instrument probably has its own track though..) and with 9Gb available on DVD and 25? on BD, space shouldn't be a problem.

I would LOVE to have some Children of Bodom, Norther, Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse, In Flames, or Wintersun in Rock Band or GHIII. Only problem being that they're SOOO far from the mainstream that we'll never see it. That and I would doubt that many people who will play Rock Band could really do a metal scream.

I think in games like Sing Star you only have to hit the right note, you don't have to scream it. You could hum at the right pitch and still get it.

ehi man....a game like this would surely need a lot of heavy - power metal songs inside....but remember there's mtv behind the curtain...u know mtv blinks an eye to mainstream..but i want master of puppets...it would be fabulous,,,with its strong guitar riffs and that fantastic central break....wow....or battery.....I would also like some power metal song like carry on of angra,or some dragonforce, kamelot, helloween, gamma ray one....finger crossed....metal songs are just the funniest to be played i think....c'mon harmonix....metal rules..

As had some of the Harmonix guys have said before, MTV has always been in the background with the Guitar Hero games. I assume they helped a lot with getting in touch with certaina rtists or being able to convince some to allow their songs to be used.
Although MTV show a lot of rubbish, they still have contacts, money and power. Their involvement in this game can be nothing less than a good thing.
I dont think MTV are stupid enough to try and hijack the game and try and force mainstream stuff down our throats, it would just detract gamers, not gain them.
I really think the different career path idea is a good one, and believe it can be implemented well. My idea would be:
Firstly, pick the instrument career path:
Guitar
Bass
Drums
Vocals
Whole band/or a mixture of the four (e.g. only singing and guitar)
Then pick the path of music:
Classic Rock
Heavy Metal
Punk
Blues and Jazz
Modern Rock
Alternative & Indie
Mixed genres (songs picked from all of them)
etc.
Then make different ones available to different instruments, or maybe different songs. For example, songs which may have excellent guitars or amazing vocals but completely lack the other parts of the band could now be implemented and still be fun.
This way, people can play their favourite music and not have to play the generes they dont like but it still gives them the option to play them. At the same time, it increases the longetivity of the game and makes it even more in depth. Perhaps attracting more players because of the greatly expanded music.

I don't listen to a whole heap of it in my spare time, but i DEFINITELY want to play metal! Some of the most fun tracks to play in GHII were the metal ones after all.
It's a good point though.. the vocal aspect of RB may affect how much they can put in

Sreaming has notes too ^^
And yeah, trying to have another vocalist impersonate a growler and failiing is the worst crime you can commit in a game like this.

Yes. An excellent post. Opeth and Symphony X are both on my setlist.
As for Death metal, I would say that a lot of people that listen to it either don't know about this game, or are assuming(mostly correctly) that there is no chance that a real Death Metal song will be included. I will give kudos to them for putting Lamb of God on, it was a move in the right direction. By the way .. Arch Enemy is good, I've been listening to them since Stigmata, but I wouldn't call them Death metal, more of a Melodic Death. There is a big difference : http://youtube.com/watch?v=gA4oq7DBU8E&mode=related&search=

Are you serious about that ? Repetitive nature of metal ? What do you listen to, Jazz Fusion ? I think you should explain what type of music you like in exchange for this Metal bashing.

That's why I wish the guitar hero games would have sold twice as many in Europe as here. Have you ever compared the music videos and bands we get on MTV to the ones they get ?

metallica is mainstream metal. i don't see why you wouldn't think metallica would be in there just because mtv is part of it. i want them to dig a bit further than lamb of god, everytime i die, etc and put in the human abstract or norther

well man...i know what kind of bands and songs we have on europe mtv....and i can surely tell u that the closer things to metal they put on are lacuna coil or evanescence....mtv is on the side of pop-rock even here in europe....even if metal music has a lot of fans here....fortunately we have some thematic channels for metal and hard rock :)

Heck yeah we want metal. Metal is one of the most techinally profound styles of music. (under jazz and shred I would assume). And would fit well in this game. Sure the vocals might be kind of hard to do, but like some people said the games not judging on quality just the pitch and how long you hold the note.
IMO These would be the bands I would want to see in rockband.
Aborted
Agalloch
Athiest!! (jazz influenced death metal)
Arch Enemy
At the Gates
Behemoth
Borknagar
Cannibal Corpse
Carcass
COB
Chimaira
Dark Tranquillity
Darkest Hour
Dimmu Borgir
Dream Theater (perfect for rock band's highest tiers)
Dying Fetus
Gojira!!!
In Flames!!!!!!!
Into Eternit (this is the band I would most like to see in rock band, prog/power/tech death/thrash band. I would cream my pants if they were included)
Kalmah
Kataklsym
Kiaus
Leng Tch'e
Machine Head
Nevermore
Nile
Opeth!!!
Rotting Christ ( thought it woud be kinda hard to put in because you dont want to offend all the chirstains out there)
Sonata Artica
Strapping Yong Lad
Symphony X
Vader
And Vintersorg
And those are just a few of the bands I would love to be in thier. And if anyone of them would be in there I would just buy the game in a second.

I don't really care what kind of genres are in the game, but let's face it... this game is supposed to rock. Leave the metal in. Leave the country out. The blues and would be a nice touch for the game, but not R&B... you get it? This game requires intruments.
Oh, and leave the evanescence out. That stuff is just annoying.
There is a bigger demand for metal then people think.
