View Full Version : I'm concerned about the PS3 version

So, is Harmonix going to release a sub-par version of Rockband for the PS3?
I am very annoyed with developers and their lazy attitude towards PS3 development.
I keep hearing " The PS3 is harder to code for.." and " The Xbox360 has been out for a year, so developers can work on it better..". EAsports has done it a few times now concerning framerates, and now Activision is telling me that my PS3 GH3 guitar isnt going to have full funcionality on GH2 or GH:80s. I am tired of developers being lazy and/or rushing thier product out the door while they give us PS3 owners B.S. excuses about why. So in closing, please, please, please do your job on the PS3. Developers wanted a system which could push the bounderies of what was being developed 3 years ago, and now that they have it, some developers can give better excuses than games. Don't be an EA/Activision, don't care more about revenue than quality.

I don't believe the game is that hard to make, even on the PS3. Besides, some companies say the PS3 is hard, some say it is easy...who knows who is talkng bull. but, the PS3 and 360 are slated for a simultaneous release, and I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm concerned about the ps3 in general.

2008 looks good so far for it though.

Most companies don't WANT to halfass the PS3 versions, it just really is notoriously hard to program for, as the architecture is very weird and there's a whole lot of different stuff going on. A lot of the documentation is still in JAPANESE. The 360 has not only been out for a year longer, it runs on a much more familiar and easy to use system. I'm sure the game will be fine on the PS3, just don't give the developers the blame, a lot of it belongs on Sony, as well.

I think even Sony is concerened about the PS3.

But 2008 does sound good to own a PS3. I was thinking this year would be good, but with it being so lackluster (sure Heavenly Sword just came out and Haze is on the approach) it just seems wise to wait it out if you already have a 360.

Because, I have no doubt in my mind that Nintendo and M$ will dominate this christmas. Especially Nintendo, Brawl and Mario Galaxy?!! That almost makes me want to buy a Wii now!!!

What Kaboobi said. The problem is not that every single third-party developer is industrious when they work on the 360, and suddenly turn into worthless lazy slackers when they work on the PS3. There are clearly issues with the platform.

All that said, I am confident that Harmonix will turn out a quality implementation on the PS3. They're not exactly dependent on an optimized Unreal Engine to get this one done.

How pissed would people be if the ps3 version got delayed until 1-2 weeks after the 360 version, as it has been happening with a bunch of games (Stranglehold being the most recent)

I wouldn't care at all if it meant getting a quality game over a rushed version, or none at all. I don't get the whole obsession with the pre-order/get it the very first day craze. For me getting the experience of playing the game at all is what's important, not just being the first on my block to do it.

Well for me, since I have been anticipating it for so long, I don't want to have to wait to play when I know I could be playing.

Plus I feel the whole bundle may be in hot demand, and supply may be low. So pre-ordering online guarantees me a bundle on day one give or take a few days, as well as removing the need to carry a 20 lb box everywhere :P

BS, we are all vain coveting people. I would brag to all my PS3 friends that I got it 2 weeks earlier and just rub it in their faces.

Not that I'm a PS3 hater, all 3 consoles need some lovin', its just not equal lovin'. And those that give no lovin' back whatsoever deserve no lovin' at all.

I would be disappointed that's for sure, but 1 or 2 weeks I can handle, a month or two then I would go nuts!!:p

Good news is, software won't be the bottleneck. Production of hardware will. The Wired article cited a drop-date of September for the software, so the PS3 version could slip six weeks, and you'd still be fine.

The mad rush will be getting enough peripherals into retail by November.

Agreed. With multiple bundle configurations and multiple console platforms, they need to ramp up a LOT of hardware units to accomodate everything.

Pure speculation, but IMHO thats why there's the rumblings of a delay for Europe and Australia.

I'd be pissed as ****!!!! For those 2 weeks anyway, but I'd deal. That ****'s been happening alot lately, Stuntman Ignition delayed after PS2 and Xbox launch, Medal Of Honor Airborne, same thing.

Also, I don't think it's about being the first on the block to have or play it it's the fact that we've been waiting months or years for these games and to not be able to play it while people on other systems including your previous gen console are, then there's a problem...

But if the choice is do you want it done right, or do you want it done right now, I'd always choose the former. And I'd absolutley wait on GHIII if it meant I could get peripherals that worked with GHII/80s.

the lazy ports over to the ps3 bother me, but i cant see how difficult it would be to port this game in particular. i mean i could care less about the graphics. all i really care about is the sound and making sure it synchs up correctly with the controllers.

The PS2 was a pain to code for, and the PS3's an "evolution of that" (quoth the Time Splitter and Haze developers). Since Harmonix has done 11 games on the PS2, I'm sure they could code on the PS3 easily (like using the new HOPO system from GHII for the first time after a while of playing GHI). And I would rather have a quality game that's done right than anything. But having a guitar peripheral for the PS3 that will work with Guitar Hero I, II, and Rocks the '80s would be freaking awesome.

It angers the Debo that I won't be able to drop my existing GH collection into my PS3. I don't want to keep a PS2 laying around...

The only reason I don't like the PS3 is that all of the good games that are coming out for it (besides R.B.) are all scheduled for 2009. It sucks....alot.

Follow me here.... If I sell it, then I won't be able to play GH1, 2, 80's because GH3 won't be 100% backward compatible....

Redebo, if the Rock Band controllers are compatible with it (which I'm sure it will be, they were games developed by Harmonix, after all), you can sell your PS2. :P

Just remember, it's published by EA...

but Harmonix isn't Tiburon, Harmonix cares about quality.

You said it Chris. I went to work today and talked with some other GH fiends, and that is the conclusion we've all come to. I am praying RockBand is going to ship with FULLY compatible hardware concerning GH,GH2,GH80s, and GH3, and I'm going to laugh my ass off if they do. What they would essentially be saying is "We are the real music makers, step off NeverSoft". So I'm not too concerned with the backwards compatibility issue now after talking with friends at work. Heres to hoping you guys prove me right, and stick Neversoft's face in the mud.

However, how weak is it to essentially say to the consumer... "Your PS3 is fully backward compatible, however, if you want to play this top 10 franchise, you may want to go and buy a PS2. We don't believe in developing a fully backward compatible peripheral...for a fully backward compatible system." Ummm, thanks?
