MTV has partnered with industry juggernaut Electronic Arts to help distribute Rock Band, which along with its four peripherals will retail for $200, four times as much as a typical game.
It sure isn't phrased like a guess, and the $200 price point was also referenced in another area of their Harmonix/Rock Band feature. Specifically on this page (http://www.wired.com/special_multimedia/2007/mf_harmonix_1510) when you highlight "Rock Band logo" on the microphone...
Although the $200 Rock Band special edition bundle package will include a microphone, any USB mic will work.
Wired seems like a pretty reputable site. Hmm.

Let's put it this way, "It's probably right, but it's not official."

Yes, they are confirming the $200 price point or it is another guess.

To be honest, I see no reason why Wired would get some exclusive scoop from EA/HMX on a price point before other more gaming orientated sites did.
Noones going to be satisfied until it's confirmed from the horses mouth anyway.
So let's just forget about the whole thing eh.

It doesn't matter how much it costs. If you are a member here, you're buying it anyway :)

That really doesn't matter. That's just how this stuff works. It's still not official. The NY Times can claim it's $200, it still won't make it official.
However, as pointed out, this is all moot. It's going to be pretty damn close to that mark, so just make the assumption and be happy with life. :D

The only number I'm going to believe is the one on the sticker on the box. ;)

even the price on the box might not be the price...if you have a coupon... like those $40 off $199 ones from circuit city :)

Actually what I'm wondering is can we take this as confirmation...
"The problem with CDs is that the value proposition got sort of funky for our audiences," Toffler says. "They're reluctant to pay $20 for a CD that has one song they like. Now, with Rock Band, they'll be happy to pay a couple of bucks for a song they interact with repeatedly and get scored on their performance in."
Does this officially mean individual songs will be (around) $2 or is this purely speculation on Toffler's part as to how the community will respond to the price?

Here you go.
We're still talking about pricing internally, so it's definitely not confirmed.

I remember Harmonix saying something like "You'll be surprised what the bundle price will end up being."
So I had a hunch that it may be slightly less than 200, or just 200.

If this is true, then the bundles will have two guitars! *crosses fingers*

I already have a GHII guitar... I don't want to be paying for an extra rockband guitar when all I need is one.

Tell you what, two guitars in the bundle is WORTH IT @ $200. I still don't think there will be two, I'm assuming WIRED is just making an assumption.

See I still think the statement is speculation because although very sweet I just don't think they'll package two guitars, drums, microphone and the game for $200. But if it is true then it's actually good news.

Trust me dude you have no idea how much I want to believe that. It may actually be the most reputable thing said in the interview, or it is just a serious lack of research and Wired just went "Oh, 4 instruments in the game, means 4 in the box, yay for us!"
God i hope there is 2, (as said above) would make 200 totally worth it. Actually if you look at the facts right now, $200 with one guitar is still worth it. You got:
Drums - $80
Guitar - $60 (wireless is $80 on 360 because Microsoft is greedy and I'm not sure but I believe MS either requires licensing fees or special circuits for wireless, something like that)
Microphone - $30
Rock Band Game - $60
With a grand total of.....$230 (I used $60 guitar since its wired in bundle.) That goes for 360 and PS3 (wireless is cheap on PS3, $60). Anyway, if they do decide on $200 (or a little less) still saving money. And if they do include 2 guitars.....yes! But I totally doubt it.

Eh the article says 4 times a normal game?
More like 3 and some change.
The game is 3x or 4x, depending how you look at it, more playable than anything out there.
Why do they have to say stuff like that not even being right and not saying "why"?

The RB site says the bundle has only one Strat.
Wired is stupid. Always have been. Don't trust em'.

Why do you say that? I'm just curious because I'm not sure yet if I should get the bundle with the wired or the wireless and no bundle.

I remember Harmonix saying something like "You'll be surprised what the bundle price will end up being."
But then, $200 wouldn't really be a surprise. :p

He's saying WIRED, the magazine is stupid. Not the wired controller... I gather he's really excited for the controller, wire or not ;)
