Wow! After seeing that video I am officially hooked! I love the character design and art direction. The crowd is amazing, it looks and feels like a real concert! They absolutely nailed the rock star atmosphere and attitude in this one. I can't wait to play! Some of those look fun. Hurry up November!

I was really impressed with the lip-singing and how the drummer animations follow the song. You can see the emotion on the vocalists face during Maps.

I would've liked to see something like Enter Sandman's solo or Highway Star's solo (but I guess maybe I should wait and be surprised when I get to play it for the first time). This is just so cool to see it in single player finally. It looks so much more reserved than Guitar Hero with respect to the HUD, but I'm really okay with that. I absolutely LOVE the arena and everything going on in it! Also, I really love the way the fret buttons (where it shows which buttons you're holding down on the HUD) pulsate when notes are being held. I noticed this most during the long chords in Wave of Mutilation. Just a subtle touch that really adds to the game.

I especially love the way that circles are used in the game. They are filled up as things are accomplished. The way the multiplier fills now is awesome. Also of note is the star rating that is being filled to its max in real time. It would've been nice just to switch from one to two to three as you reach each checkpoint, but to fill them as you gain each point? Too amazing. No more guessing what you got at the end of a song! (I really hope there's a way to turn that chime off though. I just noticed that sound when you gain a star and it's already starting to annoy me. Please let there be sound effects options, Harmonix!)

I cannot wait to play this game. It's really coming together so nicely.

By the way, anyone notice the way that the Star Power type thing is collected? (At least, I think. I'm making an educated guess.) The long yellow (don't make fun of me if it's not yellow, I'm color-blind :p) bar above the multiplier that fills from left to right is the Star Power-ish thing I think. And I believe you have to hit all of a sequence of white notes to gain more of the meter. When you hit them all, that flash goes across the track.

I'm color-blind :p
Me too, I can't tell yellow from green in most cases, blue from gray and purple from blue.

Occording to the doctor, I have trouble seeing blue :(

Great video! :D
I noticed a few cool things I hadn't known before. If you listen on Learn to Fly, during it, the crowd joins in singing, but when he loses his x4 multiplier, they stop.
Oh, and every time a song with a female vocalist was shown, the in-game vocalist was female. Now, of course, this makes sense, but does it mean that we will have to make two vocalist characters? One male and on female? It really doesn't matter, I was just wondering.

And you're right about the star power (I guess it's not called that anymore, huh?). You gte it by hitting the streaks of white notes, and then when you hit them all it lets you know you did with the flash down the fretboard. Then you activate by tilting, like normal. But the coolest thing is, if you're in "star power" and you pass over a streak of white notes, it will ADD it to your current star power gauge! It does this because when you activate, the notes don't change color anymore, the fretboard just smokes, as I'm sure you've seen in other videos.

Looks awesome, but one of the early posters mentioned that these were all expert mode. Is this true? Those really didn't look very difficult at all with the exception of Epic.

I'm not saying I'm the best virtual guitar player by any means I'm just hoping that there is much more of a challenge than what's shown there. I'm really hoping they didn't tone down the game for more casual players to get into, I mean that's what easy mode is for, right?

Ok I'd like to say I broke out in some silly grin while watching this. The truth is I just kinda sat there, stunned, for the first couple minutes. The look of this game blows me away. None of the previous vids i've watched led me to believe the background images would so freakin' awesome. The lip synch was better than expected...I can honestly say the last time i've been so taken aback by the sheer look of a game was Ocarina of Time way back when. I really wasnt prepared for this! Harmonix you bring great joy to my humble life and i thank you....i'm just so proud ,if that's possible- enjoy your anonymity while you can:p ... is this the watershed moment we'll all look back on? RB takin over the world...
I need to consider upgrading to a larger television. As far as difficulty ..yeah, i'd really like to get a glimpse of some of the more difficult tracks too...but i know their there so..

And you're right about the star power (I guess it's not called that anymore, huh?).

They'd probably be infringing on the Intellectual Property of Guitar Hero if they called it Star Power, so I imagine it'll be something else. Rock Power, maybe? Who knows.

Are you sure? That sounds really cool. I haven't really paid attention to that aspect while watching gameplay videos before though. Do you remember any videos where I could see that happen? I really like that idea.

The songs they showed aren't really all that difficult for guitar. It's not about toning down the guitar challenge, it's about showing songs that just aren't inherently difficult on the guitar. They've picked songs for the disc that are fun for all instruments, and the challenge of the guitar in particular was not as important in song consideration as it would be for a game like Guitar Hero. This is where DLC comes in. As mentioned in this article (http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200709/N07.0914.1002.29748.htm)...

While the current song list contained on disc is geared toward band-oriented gameplay, the company has plans to release songs and entire albums directed toward guitar parts. So shredders who feel like their best licks are going unused in the standard career path can take consolation knowing that—if Harmonix delivers on their promises—they’ll be able to show off their moves in earnest eventually.

If all ur doing is playing guitar by yourself and your not a fan of the song, then yes, you could call it a little screwy.

I'm a YYY's fan though, and like foolosophy said, the lip sync and emotion with the singer was awesome.

Easily one of the best rock band videos yet (still a little behind the gamespot E3 40 min and the "Highway Star" trailer imo)

Some personal highlights:

Seeing all the animations come together (the crowd in particular) so well at the End of "Here it Goes Again"
The lip syncing animations (especially for "Maps") looked amazing.
It's one thing to read about it, but to actually hear the crowd sing along to the chorus in "learning to Fly" made my day.

Nice Video! Anyone check out the side by side comparison (http://media.gameinformer.com/downloads/downloads2014/movies/2007/rock/rb-mix.wmv) of both Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3's version of Reptillia? Interesting similarities and differences.

Maybe the source video for the GH footage is of higher quality than Rock Bands, but I gotta say, GHIII is looking a lot more visually appealing, right now, when you compare the fretboards. I'm already starting to miss the circular shaped notes. Rock Band's HUD seems really minimal when you play solo, and just lacks the overall flash of GH.

I think theres just some interlacing problems with the RB footage. I do still like the round fret thingo's more but I absolutely hate the character design and lighting in GH3 and cant stand it at all.

EDIT: Thought I'd just add that I love the part about 30 seconds in during In Bloom where the lead singer puts his face in the way of the drummer and the camera zooms out to focus on him... awesome stuff.

EDIT AGAIN: Not sure about the little ding noise when u get another star. Much more bareable than GH3's "50 NOTE STREAK!!!" thing though

My favorite parts has to be:

1. The fact that the stages and crowd and band all act SO MUCH more realistic.
2. The crowd actually sings along with the words.
3. The graphics are amazing especially the lip synching. (Britany Spears would be really good at this game haha)
4. That the Star's for your performance build in real time as your playing. No more guessing how many more points or how close was I to that 5 star?
5. Guitar has been tuned down a bit for more realism. Not so much furious fretwork and added notes to make it harder.

Yeah the lip sync on Maps blew my mind. Also I love the star bars.

It seems they are trying to make the songs as hard as they can, without being unrealistic. I would have liked to see more 3 button chords on In Bloom, HIGA, and Epic though. Actually more 3BC in general.

Either way it looks amazing.

I would have to agree. Flashy aspects of the game have been improved, but the fret boards/notes have taken a step back.. Rock Band's dumb rectangles are so turning me off...

I think the game will be challenging for most, but i think the hardcore Guitar Hero Experts (not me) will not be satisfied. It seems Rock Band is about the experience of playing in a band, ie. the crowd, the band itself, the sounds. Not really the pure challenge of the guitar.

I for one was never great at Guitar Hero, I love to play it, just was never very good. But what i do love, is the ablity to play the music i love.... Like Alex has said, Rock Band will become the medium for which music is heard. I completely agree, and that is why i so look forward to playing Rock Band (pre-ordered it yesterday btw).

Also note that those are songs from the first 1/3rd of the game, which explains why they're pretty damn easy. They do get significantly harder.

TheGame, Harmonix said somewhere that they are going to be releasing instrument heavy tracks, so there will be challenges on the DLC market. The stuff on the disc, though, is just geared towards the entire band experience.

Man, the Foo Fighters part was awesome !!!....... when u turn it up and hear the crowd. Its gonna be amazing when this is cranked up and the crowd is singing alog with u.

The art direction they've taken with the band members is awesome, loving the look when the lead singer was singing "Maps"...... looked very real in movement.

Fixed (I think). I agree. I would looooove to know the entire set list. Since GH3's set list was just announced, I'm guessing Rock Band's isn't far behind. But then again, maybe Harmonix is just going to release a song or two to keep us satisfied but wanting more.

OMG!!! I have never been more excited to play a video game in my entire life....wow I dont even know where to begin. So I won't even start. This game will destroy guitar hero. Guaranteed.

Oh yea. Here's my two cents. I've 5-starred everything in GH on expert. I love playing tough guitar lines. But for the people complaining about the lack of challenge in those lines, really what did you expect? Harmonix isn't going to make it harder for no reason. It's just a different type of game. I think it's going to work out fine. Plus it'll be good to actually blend into a band instead of standing out like a trained monkey, "hey play jordan, play six, bla bla bla! youre so amazing!". Now, i'll here "YOU GUYS ROCK! BERRIES AND CREME IS THE BEST BAND EVAR!" Yes I already named my band berries and creme. Bwhahaha!!!

Sorry I'm a little excited. Harmonix, if you're reading this, I want to thank you for making this game!

For those complaining about the relative difficulty, or lack thereof, in the guitar parts, remember, this is just one fourth of the game. Let's see a montage video of the drum parts, on expert, and then we'll see what you all have to say then. You might be able to breeze through the guitar parts, but when it comes to drumming, I'm sure most of you will have something new to challenge.

The drums, at leat to me, seem to be the premiere instrument in this one. Not that they're ignoring the other aspects, but from all parties involved, word seems to be that some of the expert level drum lines are just absolute killer.

We might not have a Hangar 18 or Jordan when it comes to guitar lines, but we'll have Tom Sawyer and Won't Get Fooled Again with which to contend.

EDIT: Oh, and one thing I really really dug was the laid back vibe of Maps. I've been wanting a nice, laid back groove type of song in a GH/RB game for awhile no, just something as a palate cleanser to counteract the constantly up tempo driving songs, and HMX just nailed it with Maps. The guitar looked like he was in his own little world, just grooving along to the music, not trying to shred it up or jump around or whatever. It just seemed incredibly relaxing, but also powerful, like he was tuning out all the clamor and noise of the concert and just letting himself be carried away by the power of the music. Great, great stuff, guys. Those little touches show why you guys love music so much, and how much it means for you to share that love with the rest of us, and in the end, it's what I think truly separates you from GHIII and any other imitators that might come along. Anybody with programming chops can make a game like this, but only true musicians can make the experience and indelible one.

Yeah there should only be one note not two.

It's very possible that it's actually two notes being played during that part. While we can only hear the guitar part from the whole song, Harmonix listens to each instrument isolated on the master. They would have a better idea of what's going on in that song for the guitar than us.
