I kind of lost my excitement for the GH III Les Paul, I'd much rather play with the Rock Band model. Has it been officially confirmed if that will be possible? I read on wiki that Harmonix was willing to make it compatible if Activion asked..but then again, it's wiki you really can't trust it that well.

Oh and side question because I don't want to make a topic just for it:
Is it true that all of Nevermind will eventually be playable? If so, that's pretty good.

/sigh Read the noob survival guide at the top of the page. But to answer your questions, no, we don't know for sure about either of them.

HMX said that their guitar will be compatible with GHIII, but GHIII won't be compatible with RB, or so i've read around the forums.

Nirvana is just a rumor, but it will eventually happen i guess

Oh great, hope it is compatible. Also found out Soundgarden actually is going to be in the game and it was announced about 5 days ago..

Yeah the Nirvana thing is tricky.

I have been tending to the Wiki myself and realized someone put Nevermind back up with a source (which just turned out to be IGN claiming it was true with no official jurisdiction). I wish Harmonix would say something public to confirm or deny it.

Yes, Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden is in the game.

I hope they're compatible, this is is Activision's stance on non-RO controllers:
ACTIVISION EXPRESSLY PROHIBITS THE USE OF THE GAME WITH ANY CONTROLLERS OTHER THAN ACTIVISION AUTHORIZED CONTROLLERS OR THE STANDARD GAME CONTROLLERS.

So, uh, I wouldn't count on it.

I just haven't yet seen why the would be incompatible. RB guitar shaped controller is surely going to be compatible with guitar hero isn't it? they aren't going to just to remap the buttons to screw over their old fans? And GH3 should also be compatible with GH2, or people would be ticked off as well.

I mean they would deliberately have to break compatibility for the controllers not to work.

Well, *someone* would likely have to break compatibility. There is apparently(mentioned in the OXM interview I think) a technical specification put out on what guitar controllers should do. From what I've gathered there shouldn't be any technical reason for it not to work, but either party might be able to prevent the other's guitar from working.

Harmonix has stated that they want to allow people to use as many different controllers as possible, since this is more in the spirit of the experience they're creating. I think Harmonix would even go so far as to patch their game to make it compatible with the GH3 controller if it isn't out of the box. They have also offered to work with the GH guys to make sure the RB controller works on their game, but haven't gotten a response yet.

So that's basically why nobody knows for sure.

I can totally see this from RB as their long-term revenue comes from DLC as opposed to hard goods. That and I believe HMX when they say that they want to make people experience music in a whole new way. I acn imaging having a few different axes myself so that when I go to a buddies house we aren't picking the same fiddle.

Definitely... and when you look at how crazy people got with building their own guitar controllers for GH, it's a community all it's own. One you wouldn't want to alienate, say by making a policy against non-offical controller use :p

I'm just gonna throw this out:

I'm sure that each guitar will work with each game, especially the Les Paul in Rock Band (since it does come out a month earlier, most people will already have it.)

The main reason is that alot of people will be detracted from the game due to it being even more expensive because they'd have to buy new guitars because the ones they already have will not work. Also, alot of casual gamers who won't look into it would assume those same guitars they already own would work and buy the game, then becoming very very very angry.
