Tonight is a sad night.........I just lost my RB pedal to Breakitis.

It is now broken...

Damn.

This pedal led me to many victories in WGFA Expert, and Siva, and many other tough Drum Parts.

*sigh*

So what should I do guys?

Is there a way I could get it working again?

Or should I RMA?

Sorry to hear man, I just posted this fix in another thread but just in case you haven't read it. Here's what I did:

--Materials --
1 Roll of Duct Tape, gray

2 Butterknives

--Procedure--

Lay the knives on top of the pedal, sharp sides facing in, hold the break together with one hand and go around the top and bottom of the pedal & knives with the tape. Then go back over all of it with the tape again. Just watch out for the little nubbins on the bottom, I think they are magnet related somehow.

I'm sure there's better ways of doing it. Buying one of those metal plates would work good too. They work even on a broken pedal from what I hear. The butterknife thing works for me though, so I haven't wasted any money on the metal plate yet. Been about a month of continous playing like this between 3 different styled drummers ranging from medium/hard/expert on a daily basis.

Hope it works out :)

I've had my pedal since launch and it broke tonight as well. I tried the knife and tape but it didn't work very well, so I went ahead and RMA'd it.

What happened when you tried the tape & knives?

I didn't have any duct tape handy, so I used some packing tape which may have been a problem, but it didn't hold it together very well and it started falling apart after about an hour.

By god it seems to work.

I should RMA it though.

Im gonna have to Butterknife it soon, have three seperate cracks in the pedal held together by duct tape very tightly.

Yeah, mine broke one week ago and I can't even RMA because they won't accept my credit card, while they accepted it before for my guitar, and they accept it on the PSN and everywhere else I buy stuff. Not like it's stolen or anything.

Btw, this problem is due, not only to a weakness between the beginning of the pedal and the spring, but also because plastic is a plain cheap material and accumulates fatigue very easily (I think?). They chose poor engineers to do this pedal, trust me.

The new ones have small rubbers so it makes them "silent". The goal was not to make them silent though (according to me), it's just so that it breaks less easily, but I still don't trust that.

Our pedal snapped in the exact same place. I purchased one of those metal plates through ebay and put it back together using that. But, the center isn't the only place that the pedals snap. Many report them snapping at the hinge too. Even with the metal support I don't think there's a way of preventing this.

Have you thought about going with a real pedal and moding it to work with RB? I did it myself and it works great. There's also the Destroyer and Omega pedals for sale if you don't want to put one together.

I used that butter knife method once too (got the idea on youtube). It worked well, but i still sent it back for a new one. i just used the butter knife method to hold me over until it arrived. Now I've got a metal plate though, and it's awesome!:D Sorry about your loss, but if you've had it since 12/14, then at least it had a good run.

Well it seems you got rockband on the exact same day I did...although I broke my pedal long ago. My pads however are just starting to drop notes:(

If you have a look at the B grade vid I did http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOl7e1QgWGE you will see that I replaced the hinge with some flex plastic which elimates the hinge and solves that problem.

My pedal has this nice hairline crack that is growing every day. I'm scared to play drums now, especially since I'm late in the Solo Expert tour and I have to lift my leg to use the pedal since the beats are so fast. In all honesty I just hope that it breaks during an epic song. If it breaks during Maps I'm gonna flip

My pedal didn't break, but I do have a third party pedal I got from Rock Pedal (http://www.rockpedal.com) (http://www.rockpedal.com) I can't see this thing ever breaking. I never bought Rock Band cause I didn't want to piss off my downstairs neighbors - I'd play drums at my friends house a lot, though. He got the Rock Pedal and I started messing around with it. I found that you can adjust it so it doesn't make noise - and it's a million times more comfortable. Anyway, I bought Rock Band this week after ordering Rock Pedal and this is all I'm using for bass drums. I recommend not wasting time with the RMA - I don't even know what I'm going to do with my stock pedal now....
[Edit]
I also play heel up...I never played enough on the stock pedal for this to affect me negatively, but since I'm basically starting out on a 'real' pedal, I figure why not. Learned that trick from http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/01/rock-band-featu.html

It is only a matter of time, they will all break.
We reinforced them and they lasted quite a while, but one just broke at the hinge.

Omega pedal should be here next week.

I'm Jordan from http://www.RockPedal.com. I'm here to answer questions if anybody has any. Caliber basically had it right. The pedal is virtually silent, not totally, it really depends on the user. You can adjust the pedal in many ways. We made a brief video going over how to do it: http://rockpedal.com/support.

Our pedal is unique in that it has a sensor, not a switch. There is nothing mechanical to break.

I used the butterknife method and used alot of duct tape to make sure it heold and it is amazing I would recommend this to anyone to use if you pedal breaks there is a video on youtube that shows you how to do it.(make sure that you put the knives the right way to give you extra support). even if your pedal isnt broke I would do this to it cause the stock one is a piece of crap. hope this helps. :D

hey jordan,

your site says the bottom of the pedal has velcro on it, which is cool for setting up the rig on carpet. what happens if you set it up on hardwood floor?

Hey Bretticus,

To be quite honest, the pedal with the velcro on a tile or wood floor is not so great..meaning it's a little slippery. It really depends on the floor and the person. You can attach a few velcro strips with rubber attached.

In fact, I have the velcro strips and the rubber required, so if you make a note on your order or send an email to Support@RockPedal.com I would be happy to include them in your order. That goes for everybody else reading this too.

It's not per se the plastic, but the geometry. It's just wrong. There are cross ribs in a X pattern on the bottom of the pedal - but not nearly enough to handle what's going through it as far as bending stresses. Probably off by a factor of 4. That's a ton of woops in mechanical engineering. It's highly likely all of the design work was outsourced, and clearly little to no testing was done given the amount of failures.

I'm a bit dismayed here - my first drum set was DOA, now I broke a pedal in 8 weeks. A week ago, one of my guitars had the whammy spring fail. 3 failures in 8 weeks is not a good track record. I RMA'd everything - but this pedal is terrible - so I think I'm going to build my own metal one. It's a freakin platform with a hinge, a micro or proximity switch, and a spring. It can cost more than $20 in materials if one has the tools.
