If you actually listen to the notes and the placement of the intervals, the rockband chart makes a lot more sense. Maybe it's just because Harmonix has a lot more experience than the Neversoft crew.. I guess it's open to interpretation or what you notice when you see and hear it. It'll be REALLY interesting to see how some of the other charts compare (Paranoid, Mississippi Queen, Sabotage, Cherub Rock, etc). Guess we'll just have to wait

see thats a tough decision for me. I'd pick rock band because the notes are shaped like frets on a real guitar. Then again I might pick GH since the note charts actually have background and aren't just boring black. In then end I'm going to pick rock band, because (besides the fact that that game is the reason I get up) I think we're going to see a few more changes to the note chart, HMX seems very indecisive, haha. Seriously though, only thing I want is note chart customization.

There shouldn't be any which is better with these 2, there basically the same type of game, except Rock band has more instruments. I will be getting both, spending $100 on GH3 and $200 on RB. I love rock music and both games give me what I want.
Rock Band will naturally be more fun, cause of the inclusion of drums and vocals, so more people = more fun. GH3 is more for the OMG DAMN THAT SONG WAS HARD! type of game. More for the guys who like to just solo it out with really hard songs.

Yes. There has to be many more people who agree with that including myself....I hope to god that the chart is customizable.

I don't know but IMO the Rock Band Note Charts looked way better in the earlier version of the game. They have changed them now and now they look kinda boring.
Also, I'm not sure if I really like that you suddenly switch to rhythm guitar. So it's sad to admit it, but I'd say GH3 looked better there.
Although I like the whammy effects in Rockband a lot more than in GH3!!

I like GH3's note chart better. Rock Band will be more fun to play since from what I hear you don't even have to really hit the notes in GH3 right on the button in order for them to register as a hit.

To me, it seems the GH3 has "spread" the notes out a little more (cf. G, Y, O vs. R, B, O) simply for the sake of making it a little tougher.
Not sure how I feel on the rhythm guitar switch.
Overall the charts are very similar and I don't really favour either.
As for the chart background, I find I don't really pay attention to that when I'm playing Guitar Hero. As a spectator it's something I'd notice, but still not really care that much about, unlike the background animations, so I'm a fan of the slightly translucent board.

I think the chart is purposely boring because they want to show off the performances, since they look AMAZING !!!........... i agree with them, if thats there reason.

I prefer GH3s main riff, though the final riff for RB is better.

I don't like Rock Band's square/fret type notes. Maybe I'm used to GH's circles, but the way they have almost a point to them (the white part) makes it almost like you have a center to aim for.
Also, I think GH's notes look better, once you start to cram a lot of them together (chords, or fast parts of songs). With RB, its a appears a bit rough, seeing a bunch of stiff looking blocks falling down.
At least to me, hearing the music and seeing GH, I could imagine playing it, and it seems smooth. With RB, not so much.
Which is potentially a shame, because I'm only getting RB.

I don't know if its just me but I actually like RB's notes... to me it doesn't look much as a flat rectangle more than walls with a tube in the middle of it... not sure if that makes sense(kinda glows). In GH the white part on the notes means that you have to strike to strum bar for you to hit that note, the hammer ons/pull offs don't have that on them, its just the plain color of the note. I also find that if I stare at GH's notes for too long, I become somewhat dizzy, everything that I look at for a bit after that (except the notes) kinda spins and distorts itself... might be my vision, its horrible. Well on topic, like everybody else says, if you want harder things for guitar then go play GH3 and RB is more to do with all of the instruments instead of 1 instrument being hard and the others being really easy. I also agree with the person above, I don't really look at the note chart/ fretboard thing while playing. Sorry for the long post...

I like them too, actually. The GH ones always reminded me of upside down bowls, or dollops of frosting.

This is actually quite normal, it's caused by staring at one spot on the screen while the horizontal lines of the fret board constantly scroll down. It's like an optical illusion, basically your eyes get used to having to compensate for the scrolling lines, and when the lines stop, they're confused for a bit. Most people I've talked to only really notice it at the end of the song after extended playing... when you're looking at the score screen you have trouble actually keeping your eyes on the screen. Actually, the duller fret board in RB should make this less of an issue... but you'll still be watching the notes constantly move down the screen.

Holy ****, I just brought down the roof over at SH:
Of course the songs are going to be noticably easier because they need to be blanced for 4 members. Thats a given. That doesnt mean the songs arent "fun". Hell like 3/4 of GH/RBs market would not even touch expert, so it really wont be any issue for them.
Of course as a GH verteran, its a concern, but its really not as big of a deal as you make it sound. More than a Feeling is still one of the funnest songs to play in any GH game, and I FC that song every single time. So challenge is of course an aspect on how enjoyable a song is to play, but not the only one. A hard song can be incredibly dull to play, and you never want to touch it again while an easy one can still be exciting even after 100 Gold star performances.
So we cant judge how enjoyable the songs are to play based on how difficult they sound. Its not like anyones list of favorite GH2 songs is in the exact order as they are in the game.
I think harmonix should hire me for PR :p

I'm just curious as to what the Bassist plays during the section they switch the guitar. Because from what I would think, the Guitarist and Bassist would be playing the same part of the song.

Rock Band has the better note chart. GH3s note chart is more challenging for no reason, and it nearly makes me cringe....I mean, it's wrong! gah. Those orange notes in there for no reason bother me. Harmonix for life! These guys know what they're doing.

After getting to play the game some yesterday and watching the side by side video comparing RB vs. GHIII, I much prefer RB's notes now. I'm not sure what exactly it is, but my mind is able to flow much better with RB's set up than the "raised circle that doesn't line up with the line from your perspective" of GH's.
This is a good improvement from GH and GHII from my perspective. :)

Yeah, like others I find that rhythm switch at the start of the vid just plain odd.. not feeling it at all.. but I guess it's to give variety or something.
And I think you'd find that with three solid fretboards on screen at once, everything would be even more hectic (if they were all different anyway) and render concert animation practically moot. Especially on a regular 4:3 screen.
