View Full Version : A few Wii questions.....

Well I'm sure these have been answered but I'm old and don't play our Wii (my kids do) but I know I'll be playing Rockband for Wii.

So I borrowed a friends 360 Rockband for a few days to try it out and the wires drove me nuts! Addicting though yes!

1) Is the Wii Rockband going to be totally wireless like the system should be? I gotta think about more controllers if yes, because the Wii GH3 needs a controller....4 RB instruments...hrmmm....4 controllers?

2) Will there be DLC for Wii?

3) My friend used his GH2 guitar for his 360 RB, so will I be able to use my GH3 Wii guitar with Wii Rockband?

4) Please if yes to DLC, need a grunge pack with some Alice in Chains, fun to play and sing! Down in a Hole!

Thanks for your answers and saving me figuring out searching forums.

1. Don't think so, as they don't use the Wii-motes
2. Nope
3. Nope

I'll try my best to answer from what I know:

1) Looks like it's going to be the same setup as their older brothers (PS2,PS3 and 360), wired drums, wired mic and the wireless guitar. And before you ask, no, the guitar won't be using the wiimote as the GH3 Les Paul did.

2) They confirmed that there won't be DLC for wii.

3) The Wii GH3 guitar won't work with Rock Band, the reason? maybe because they didn't used the wiimote in first place or because activision didn't wanted to allow them to make RB compatible with the Les Paul.

4) We are asking for that in the PS3 and 360 versions too :D , but as far as I know, nothing has been said about alice in chains yet. But be aware of the answer of #2, the wii won't have DLC, so the possibility is reduced to zero in wii.

And last, there is thread in the community forum that gives more information than the info I gave you on the thread. Here is the link:

If I were you, I'd stay away from this version, really. If you really want the complete experience from Rock Band, I'll recommend you to get a 360 or a PS3.

Great thnx for the replies...ok so I need some help with my train of thought...BTW I am reading that Wii link but there's many pages to read thru hehe

Yes I think to avoid the outcome of our Wii GH3 now collecting dust, we need to keep it fresh with having teh ability to get DLC....

So we have a 7 and 12 year old boys.

1) Would they like a 360 or PS3 better? For games in total

2) How much are the DLC? I assume DLC is available for everything except Wii?

3) Does a PS2 have DLC? Because perhaps Rockband + PS2 is an option.

4) I have seen RB for 360 and PS3, but not PS2....any big diff with teh older console?

I appreciate any input folks......lots of question because I've heard 360 breakdown issues too so...I want some experienced users input (I have zero)

So we have a 7 and 12 year old boys.

1) Would they like a 360 or PS3 better? For games in totalWow...that is a SERIOUSLY loaded question. Internet flame wars have been raging for years over this very question. ;) Each platform has various strengths and weaknesses. For example, the 360's online play is arguably superior, but it has that notorious hardware reliability issue ("Red Ring of Death"). The PS3, conversely, has a nifty built in blu-ray DVD player, but it has a higher cost of entry than the Xbox and I didn't like the available game titles for the PS3 as much as the 360's marquee games. Et cetera.

Full Disclosure: For the record, I went with the 360 as it was the best choice for me, but your own mileage may vary. Also, I have not experienced any hardware issues with my 360, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be a serious consideration. I do recommend the 360 to my friends, however, so consider that 1 vote. But if your home "needs" a blu-ray player, the PS3 is a perfectly good system, too.

2) How much are the DLC? I assume DLC is available for everything except Wii?DLC is available for the 360 and the PS3 versions of Rock Band. DLC is NOT available for the PS2 or the forthcoming Wii versions.

Most songs are $2 each, with some DLC made available in packs of 3 or 6 at a slight discount ($~5.50 for 3, $~10 for 6). A few songs are initially offered at $1 each, especially if they aren't well known or are being promoted for some reason.

3) Does a PS2 have DLC? Because perhaps Rockband + PS2 is an option. The PS2 does NOT have DLC.

4) I have seen RB for 360 and PS3, but not PS2....any big diff with teh older console? The PS2 version has lesser graphics (obviously), but most importantly, it has significantly fewer in-game options and features, most notably no DLC, no customizable rockers, no online play, and no real World Band Tour (WBT). The Wii version will be virtually identical to the PS2 version...which means it will also lack DLC and World Band Tour functionality, which (imho) are the two best parts of the game.

Personally, if you are going to invest the $170+ dollars in Rock Band, get the 360 or PS3 version. This is a game that was truly designed for a next-gen gaming platform, and the PS2 and Wii versions simply don't cut it unless you absolutely cannot justify the cost of upgrading to either the 360 or PS3. As a final example, a good friend of mine who had a PS2 went over to a buddy's house to play Rock Band on their PS3. He liked the game so much he bought it for his PS2 the next day. However, he was so disappointed that it lacked DLC and WBT, he eventually bought a PS3. (If he had asked ME, I would've told him to get the Xbox...so that we could play together online. Ah, well.)

Last point: You state that you borrowed your friend's 360 to try Rock Band. If you got a 360 you could rock with your friend online. If you got a PS3, you could not. (Although be aware that rocking out together in person is always better...) Also, the 360 has wireless Fender Stratocaster guitars available now (although I don't know if the full bundles have them yet -- or if they will ever have them), and the wireless Les Paul guitars from Xbox versions of GH3 work perfectly with Rock Band on the 360. With 2 wireless guitars, the 2 cables for a full band (drums and mic) are perfectly manageable.

Good luck!

This is info I'm looking for. I guess I DO want to pathetically get a 360 or PS3 for Rockband initially. Online play is not a factor (I have my PC for Call of Duty etc) but reliability is more important then gameplay. I don't want a stripped down Wii version.

Yes I need to get the 2nd guitar as well so I'm thinking GH3 and use it or just buy another RB guitar.

Yes I have heard and read lots on hardware 360 failure but not much on PS3.

Just remember that the Les Paul GH3 controller will only work on the XBox 360 version of Rock Band, and so will the X-Plorer controller. The Playstation 3 version of the Les Paul GH3 controller will not work with Rock Band on the PS3.
