Most everything I've had questions about has been answered so far since the game was first announced. But I still haven't heard anything really detailed about the sound options in the game. This doesn't seem like it's something that the developers wouldn't be allowed to talk about yet (much like how they can talk about Lefty Flip in-depth freely - details that aren't too important to most people and don't need to be kept a secret).
So my question is basically how do the sound options work in each of the game modes? Is the volume system going to be similar to how it was in Guitar Hero? We know you can change the volume of your vocals compared to the real vocals from all of one to all of the other. I imagine this option is in both the vocal campaign and the band campaign. But I don't think we've heard much about the rest of the sound options.
Here are my main questions about points that I'd love to be answered...
During Band Play (2-4 players), how are the sound options laid out in terms of volume of bass, guitar, drums, mic, and [rest of band]? Can every single part be adjusted individually (that is: bass, human vocals, comp. vocals, guitar, drums, and [rest of band])? Think about the possibilities of that...imagine how cool it would be to mute everything else but the players' instruments for some unique fun on a song. Can only the parts played + rest of band be adjusted (that is: say you're playing drums and guitar...options would be volume control on drums, guitar, and [rest])? Or is it only the vocals volumes that can be adjusted during band play?
For each of the solo careers (I guess we can include quick play to include the bass), how are the volume sound options laid out for each instrument of the song? Is it just [current instrument] and [rest of band]? Can you adjust each possible playable part individually? I know it's something that couldn't be done in Guitar Hero II since only the guitar and bass were separated from the rest of the song, but it's more viable in Rock Band with 4 separated parts. This would be really cool to hear these tracks pseudo-remastered by the player if possible. I think it would really add to the experience.
And lastly, I think this might be the most important aspect of all the sound options. How do the sound effects work in the game as a whole? In the original Guitar Hero, I think they worked to perfection. Then in Guitar Hero II, muting the sound effects did not remove all of the sound effects (crowd cheering and crowd reactions to missed notes were still quite audible unfortunately). I'm worried that muting the sound effects in Rock Band will only take care of 90% of it (like in GHII) and leave in more (like the crowd singing along) regardless. Ideally, there would be two separately adjustable volume levels for sound effects. One for missed notes, the chime for earning another star during a song, etc. And the other for crowd singing and other crowd reactions (like cheering). Or including every single sound effect under the sound effects option would work nicely too. Some people like the sound effects while others can't stand them, which is why I'd just love the option to hear the master tracks in their original form without other sound effects. I wouldn't want anything to be plain removed from the game that would make the game less enjoyable for people would like the live atmospheric audio stuff, just the option to remove them if you like.
Yeah, so I think that's the most I'll ever type up about sound effects.
Could someone from HMX or anyone who's played the game tell us as much as you can about all the sound effects options? If not all sound effects are turned off when the option is turned all the way down, there's still time to put in another option or modify the existing one! The game's not done yet (at least I hope not)! Thanks for any info anyone can give (and a special thanks if anyone from HMX can comment). I realize all of this is a lot to read, but knowing all the options you have and ways you can hear and experience the music is very important to me with these games. Some people like the live atmosphere, the crowd, and the missed notes while others just want to hear the music as untainted as possible. And with all the DLC planned for this game, I just hope that everyone is pleased from the get-go. Thanks for reading.
