My brother bought a game at blockbuster yesterday and they gave him a flyer with some new games coming out later in 2008. I dont remember most of them, but it had Rock Band 2 being released in like November or December. From what I've seen and googled, there has not been a Rock Band 2 confirmed, especially this year. Am i missing anything?

As much as I'd hate to say it...

"Pictures or it didn't happen"

...there goes the last remnant of my soul.

*sigh*

Nothing has been announced so I highly doubt it, not to mention HMX has said they plan on supporting Rock Band as a platform for a few years.

Well there isnt anything on Gamestop's lists yet, which I'd place at least slightly more reliable than a rental place.

I wouldn't beleive anything Blockbuster says.

Probably an updated version for PS2 (and Wii, down the line), which do not have DLC. If it is actually true, of course ;)

I hope it's NOT true. There is absolutely no need for a sequel, yet. Especially this soon.

They've repeatedly said that they aren't really giving a Rock Band 2 that much thought, that the DLC sales were where they were going. But they'd still consider it. Meaning, Id only see them interested in releasing a Rock Band 2 if the DLC sales started to dwindle - then they'd release a Rock Band 2 to rekindle interest. But it jumped recently to 8 million downloads - something like 2 million in three weeks or less - so it doesn't seem to me like its exactly "dwindling".

Oh, the only other possibility is if its an expansion disk of some kind. Or, do a slightly lesser extent, a DLC disk for people who don't have the net.

Wouldnt that be cheaper for them than those of us who actually paid for it? Ive spent close to the cost of another game disc and have about half of whats out there

Of course they aren't giving it much thought - it's going to happen. It's in the works right now, I'd bet money on it. Now, having it released this soon, lets all hope it isn't going to happen.

A sequel might bring about licensing issues to carry over DLC. Why bother? Aren't they more likely to just patch this version heavily with a mandatory patch (for online play), add in all the extra functionality and call it Rock Band: [enter cheesy expansion pack title here]?

They aren't likely to make Rock Band two this early.

I can see when the Xbox and PS3 are considered last-gen consoles and (hopefully) the PS2 is all but forgotten about.

Maybe then, when a new console has taken over the market, Rock Band 2 will be warranted.

It's not true, it's either a misprint or he read it wrong. Forget about it, they're not making Rock band 2 any time soon.

I think they will only make Rock Band 2 when they have some new features that are so drastically different they need a new release. Something, that can't be delivered in an update. Rock Band is a platform just like Microsoft Windows is a platform so I wouldn't want or expect another release for at least a couple of years.

Blockbuster is ******ed. Do they even include the instruments when renting Rock Band? I'd assume not, making the rental completely useless.

I've hated Blockbuster for YEARS--long lines, poor selection, clueless employees, Nazi return policies/fees--it's a total joke of a company.

So them spreading wrong information is not surprising at all.

I've never seen RB for rent at BB but I have seen GH3 for rent. However, BB does sell the entire RB Special Edition for both consoles. They're also selling PS3 console bundles now too. (I think Sony and BB entered into some type of an agreement).

Blockbuster never bothered me.

No lines,
No late fees,
They have xbox's and Rock Band cheaper than most places do,

etc.

Here are the possibilities off the top of my head.

1. The flyer was dated 2007.

2. The printer/store/someone accidentally reprinted/redistributed last years flyer.

3. Blockbuster is going to start renting/selling Rock Band peripherals. Someone misread the flyer.

This would be my guess and if Harmonix is not planning it, they should be. A PS2, Wii Rock Band 2 with 70 of the songs that have been already released as DLC would be fair and the right thing to do.

Looks like Activision might 'force' Harmonix into releasing one.

You are what the entertainment and software industries call an "early adopter". If I pay $50 for a game and a 6 months later it's marked down to $20, you aren't getting less of a game for it - you've gotten more time to enjoy it.

You can see a movie on opening weekend for $9, or you can wait several weeks and see the same movie at the cheap seats for $3. Your opening-weekend experience is not diminished for that - you just got to see it earlier.

I'm sure if they publish expansion discs that they won't have the full DLC library on one disc, and the savings won't be much. GH80s wound up costing about $2 a song, didn't it?

There are people who'd rather pay $50 for a 25-song expansion disc than $350 for a new console and $2 for each of the songs separately. It's actually a good business move for HMX, since they don't get a penny off the sale of any platform. If they can make new songs available in other forms, a PS2 player is worth as much to them as an XBox or PS3 player. It's all about dollars on the bottom line.

From what I've seen, a 2008 Rock Band 2 release would be surprising (but not unfathomable). My guess would be that the Blockbuster flyer has a retail expansion mixed up with a true sequel (like all of the people who got GH: Aerosmith and GH4 mixed up before the former was announced officially).

I would not be surprised if we got a true RB2 in 2009 though.

former supervisor, i quit yesterday lol. there are no flyers of the sort. it must be some person's f-up. there ARE flyers for GTA 4, mario kart, GH:aerosmith, etc that they stick in your bag sometimes/put all over the store

rock band & its peripherals ARE sold at some blockbuster stores.. guitar for rent (altho its usually the gh2 controller) cuz blockbuster is starting to get more into gaming... but dont buy it there, cuz its usually all kinds of messed up due to the employees handling it, and especially if its live on the sales floor (which it is in some stores)

oh and blockbuster gets its info from sites like these / ign.com / etc... when it comes to street dates, future game releases, reserves.. so youll never 'find it there first', unless they strike some sort of deal with some company, which i highly doubt because when it comes to gaming revenue, you hit up gamestop/bestbuy before blockbuster.

all the game discs are scratched anyway.

If it's anything like Gamestop, it's bull****.
We still have Duke Nukem Forever listed as coming out in december under PC games at mine.
Our source?
No clue.

I don't WANT a sequel...ever. just keep updating this one. why spend 400 dollars on a game then just get a new one. you spend that kind of money so you don't have to get a new one, in my opinion.

I'd still buy it though....I'd even buy the whole pack with the instruments, becuase I'd want to be able to score duel drums.

There is a little thing in economics called "extracting maximum willingness to pay". One way to do this is to put a product out at a high price then drop it the minute sales dwindle.

You wanted Rock Band. Your desire to play it was worth $169.99 to you when you bought it. Some people aren't willing/able to spend that much. When it drops to $99.00, a whole new sector of willing customers will open up and so on. When even those sales dwindle, they can either:

a) drop the price again and hope to make back their cost in DLC.

b) release Rock Band 2.

Knowing the way the industry works, Rock Band 2 will be out long before they start taking a hit for each special edition box they sell.

Edit: I worked at Blockbuster for a few years while I was in college. I assure you all, it was the CUSTOMERS who were completely clueless, NOT the employees. =)

I expect there will be a Rock Band 2, as soon as they can get the following details worked out:

1. DLC carries over from Rock Band
2. They figure out how to do the Band World Tour online (effectively a music game MMO) correctly.
3. They come up with other cool new modes, like band vs. band.

It's too profitable of an idea not to do it, but I don't see Harmonix putting out a sequel just for the sake of putting out a sequel--they can use DLC to add more songs with much better community good will.

My expectation: Rock Band 2 will come out either this November or November 2009. Remember, as of this time last year, Rock Band had just been announced to the public.

With HMXs demonstrated ability and willingness to update/modify the current game AND with 8 million DLC downloads already, I can't see a legitimate reason to create RB II. At least, not in the foreseeable future. But that's my opinion.
