View Full Version : RockBand Tour OUTRAGE!!!!

I was so excited to see that the RockBand tour was coming to Portland, OR. As cities and yes, even states go, Portland Oregon is often forgotten when it comes to fun national stuff like this... Imagine my fuming outrage when I looked at the updated tour list today to find that the tour is no longer in Portland, but f#&king CORVALLIS!!! That's a three hour or longer drive from Portland. This would be a slight irritation if I had a car, but I don't. This is a gigantic kick in the groineries Harmonix!!! I could see if maybe they moved it to Salem, as that is the capital of Oregon (for some reason) but Corvallis!?! Why, just 'cause OSU is out there?? That's some pretty crappy demographic planning guys. Besides a large college, that place in an old people desert town. Why not move the tour all the way out to Pendleton? Or some other middle of nowhere place!?! Damnit I GAURGH!! KAFF CHOKE!! KAK...Chokin' on my own rage here!!!

Sorry bro but Harmonix is targeting the college demograph which makes sense because college kids play video games, and college kids play guitar hero. Right now I think there's at least 5 kids on my dorm floor playing guitar hero.

There is already a thread on this actually...and you can make the Portland-to-Corvallis drive in an hour and a half if you are driving fast. will not take longer than 2 hours, max (unless you go during rush hour).
what i wrote in other thread:
i think driving up on one major campus of your target audience makes sense. they pull the bus up in the Quad and can hit a ton of college kids without having to recruit them from several different colleges.
the MU at OSU is fairly large as well and events there always attract a ton of kids at all times, all day. If they came to portland, would they park in Pioneer Square? people would have to drive there and find parking...it would be more difficult.
Having it at OSU makes attracting people much easier...with the walking population on campus all day. People wont have to go out of their way to get there...people walking buy who wouldnt drive to go check it out will stop when they see other kids rocking. seems like a smart idea to me...even if i cant make it.

Sorry to hear about that, I would be so upset too. They better not move the tour away from me!

Yeah it sucks, but I'm in the twin cities right now and we don't get RB either. We even have 800,000 more people in our metro population and the closest stops are closer to 5 hours away.
Deal with it. That's what I'm doing.

It's alright, we'll have the game in our homes in 63days. ;)

Granted OSU is a pretty large, popular College, but why target one just one School? Corvallis is a tiny little town. There are tons of Colleges here in Portland, not to mention High Schools and just a plain larger population than Corvallis. Ugh... Well, no point in going on and on about something you can't change... Looks like I'll be playing the game when it comes out, like everyone else.

What college kid has $200 to buy this thing anyway? I never had that much in college and if I did I was buying beer and weed not videogames even one as awesome as this.....

Probably the ones who aren't busy buying weed :p
I'm probably biased, since I go to a tech school and most of my friends are engineering students. We seem to have plenty of money, and that includes buying quality beers (Samuel Adams, Leinenkugels, Oberron, local Microbrews) and video games (among 8 of my social group there are 3 wiis, 5 Xbox 360s, a PS3, and an HDTV to play on).
Everything in moderation... I guess.

$200? I doubt anyone is buying the bundle. Probably just guitars and drum sets.

Could be worse, I think the closest tour stop for "middle of nowhere, midwest" is a full 8 hour drive. :)

And Texas got entirely deleted. (I don't care if it the TX stop was after the release date. It would still have been fun to play in front of a huge audience, and probably would have been one of my only chances to meet some HMX people...)

I feel for you my friend.
Bear in mind us Brits though*. No tour and a delayed release date. Bah!
*Not an invitation to start a USA/Brits slanging match.

I think your observation regarding what people will buy is a little short sighted. I put up a poll last week and a good percentage of the people in this forum will have been through further education and have disposable income to buy this game.
I see the long term benefits to this. I probably play GH2 every day, so it's money well spent IMHO. I see me playing rock band every day as well, but with added instruments, it's likely to last so much longer. $200? Likely to be £150 in the UK as we always end up paying more despite the exchange rate and I won't think twice about handing the cash over.
I've spent money on utter garbage that put together comes to more than the cost of this game. I'd rather pay a lot of money for a game I know I'll be playing throughout 2008 rather than something I will play for 2 days and trade/put on the shelf never to play again.

btw, previous post a bit OT, but I couldn't help picking up on cost complaints. Really bugs me. Have some people never heard of the saying you get what you pay for?

Trying living in Portland, Maine. :P Always second rate to Oregon, and the closest anything ever comes is Boston...
On the plus side, though, there's a studio here in Portland where Tool comes to finish up albums, so they always make a Maine stop when it comes to tours.

Uh, I have 200$ to buy this. and $100 to buy guitar hero. (and halo 3..mass effect, cod4, mario galaxy, smash bros..)
It's called having a job and not wasting it on beer and weed. I'd rather waste it on games.

I like video games, beer and we*d....so I guess I have a good job 'cause I can afford them all...:p
I'm still undecided on guitar hero 3 though. I'm tempted, because I'm thinking I can use the wireless guitar from GH3 for a bass once rockband comes out. It looks better than the GH2 guitar, and it will give me something to do while I wait for rockband to come out :D
Although I might just download the demo instead...the song I want the most is "the metal" by tenacious D...maybe I'll rent that silly tony hawk game from blockbuster and then download it off that.
hmmm:rolleyes:
Oh yeah...the portland thing...I already chimed in on that. Corvallis sucks and it's clearly a poor move, but hey, at least they are coming to Oregon. it's better than having to drive up to the nightmare that is Seattle...shrug...
Maybe we could organize a carpool or something...

Seattle does suck...thankfully i only have to go to the Evergreen speedway, which is about 20 minutes closer for me...

*raises hand*
I'll be rocking the full bundle. I guess it helps that I'm willing to drink cheap beer and I don't smoke weed.

This is my plan as well... I figure the wireless bass(and generally simpler bass riffs) will mean the bassist gets stuck being the "sound man" as well, walking around making sure all of our levels are good. It's all part of the experience ;)
