I think this would be an interesting question.
My answer is two.

Queen (Love it all)
Gorillaz (That remixed reggae album sucked, though)
Led Zeppelin (Pretty much everything before the 80's rocked)
Pink Floyd (I'm missing two albums, but I like all their stuff.)
Nirvana (Don't own Bleach, but I own all their other stuff.)
Bands that almost made it:
Iron Maiden (The second Bruce left, things went down hill)
Metallica (After Black album things became iffy)
Black Sabbath (Kept rocking until Dio left)
Hendrix Experience (Don't have all the albums.)

I would have to say Dire Straits and Pink Floyd. I really can't think of any songs by either of them that I don't like. I like about 90 percent of Red's songs as well.

04-22-2008, 03:21 AM
Nine Inch Nails
Linkin Park
Combichrist
Devil Wears Prada
Disturbed
Innerpartysystem
Papa Roach
The Police
Rammstein
She Wants Revenge
Shiny Toy Guns
Three Days Grace
...So... Umm. A few bands, haha. I'm sure there are others, those are just off the top of my head (it's weird that I think almost alphabetically.....). And these are all bands in which I own every CD, every live CD/DVD (if applicable), every EP/Maxi-CD/Single/etc that I can get my hands on.
Granted, a couple of these bands (namely STG and IPS) could easily put out an album that'll blow that 90+% rate of enjoyment to bits, but I've got high hopes for them.

Hmm...hardcore music geek that I am, this actually threw me into deep thought for awhile.
Tool
Clutch
Dropkick Murphys
Primus
Foo Fighters
Nine Inch Nails
Flogging Molly...
Well, I guess that alone knocks me into the seven and over category. There are others, too, but considering the sheer amount of music I consume the percentage is still pretty low. Certainly doesn't happen very often.

I was definitely not that fond of it at first, but parts of it slowly grew on me. Or that could just be me deluding myself into liking it based on past loyalties, some amazing live shows, and staunch denial on my part of the increasingly obvious fact that MJK just doesn't care about that band much anymore.

the increasingly obvious fact that MJK just doesn't care about that band much anymore.
Yes, it's so true. Listen to the last cd, notice that a lot of the songs have riffs from the earlier cds.
I wasn't a huge fan of undertow but they would have been my number three if not for 10000 annoying songs- oops i mean 10000 days;)

90%???? So, one album out of 10 that you don't like would cut a band out? A lot of bands don't even have 10 albums so that means this could be a very long list.
At this point in time, I can not think of any band that has released more than 5 studio albums of Orig music that I can say I think all five of the albums are great. But, of those five there may be one or two perfect albums.
So, unless the band broke up in their prime, ala Guns and Roses (which for me Spaghetti Incident dropped them below 90%, four good out of five = 80%)....
What this boils down to is who released enough to counter their bad albums...
The Doors - I have never liked Soft Parade so again, below 90%
The Who - Some perfect albums... Moon died and it seemed to sap Townshend's writing ability... nope.
Pink Floyd - Some bad stuff early on, then the awful Final Cut, they barely fall out of contention
Skynard - The new stuff is OK, but not great like before the crash. The new stuff keeps me from choosing them
Van Halen - one horrible album, the rest were enjoyable, especially the DLR era... OK, there is one
Alice Cooper - God no. When AC was the band, great stuff. Then he went solo and did two good albums and then drank himself silly and put out a bunch of crap. Love the early stuff though.
Beatles - Hell, I can't even say the Beatles, their early stuff was mostly covers and sappy love songs. It wasn't until Rubber Soul that they really turned me on.
Neil Young - Wow, now that is an artist, but the awful crap he put out in the 80's... whew.... But, he has enough albums to overcome that period... so there is two.
So, anyway, with out making this a 50 page post going through every band I can think of... I would say two, Van Halen and Neil Young.

So - let's say a band made 10 albums and each album had 10 tracks. Do I have to like 9 of the albums or 90 of the tracks? I'm going to assume we're talking about overall albums, because there are very few albums period that I like 90% of the tracks on. Usually there are a few outstanding tracks that make the album for me.
Problem I have is that there are lots of groups I love who just went on too long. If they had stopped at a certain point I probably would have counted them, but their later output seriously lagged: Beach Boys, Squeeze, Elvis Costello, Stones, ....
So for groups that lasted a relatively short time I love their output: Jimi Hendrix Experience (I don't count the stuff released by the estate posthumously), Buffalo Springfield, Cream, The Band. The Beatles are kind of in-between. Not really long lasting, but not really short either.
Then there are the bands who haven't been around long enough to get into the "hanging on too long" phase: Muse, Keane, Coldplay.
Of the bands who've lasted a long time (at least a decade), the ones I feel have had the most consistency and I've liked around 90% of their stuff are Radiohead, Springsteen and U2. Tom Petty comes close. The Byrds come close. Marshall Crenshaw comes close.
Anyway, you count it, tho', it's more than 7....

True -- but that's around the point the Stones started seriously falling off, for example. Others kind of like that -- Squeeze, REM. U2 had a falling off around that time in their career -- anyone remember Pop? -- but recovered nicely. I do think one thing Radiohead is doing right is taking time between albums. One problem with someone like Elvis Costello or Frank Zappa is they just produce so much stuff there's no way it's all going to be the same level output.
You're right, tho', I was a little too quick to lump them in with more recent bands like Keane and Coldplay. That's the problem with looking back over 40+ years of listening. 16 years starts to seem like a short time.... :o

Well then...
The Who... still support them eventhough the albums suck anymore
Electric Light Orchestra... well, Jeff Lynn is all that is left, but that last ELO album was pretty good.
Poe.. two great albums, would snatch up another release, but I doubt there ever will be another because of the fighting with her record co.
Anything written by Jim Steinman... doesn't matter who the artist is, Meat Loaf, Air Supply, Bonnie Tyler, Pandoria's Box, or whomever I just love his music
Finally, Fish (Derrik Dick) who used to be the lead singer for Marillion. I have bought every one of his Albums unheard, importing them from the UK since he left the band. Some of them were great, some of the were crap. But, I will continue for some reason. I used to do that with Marillion too, but the "new" singer just started sounding like every song he sang was the same damn song, no diversity. So, I finally broke the 20 some year streak and didn't get their last album.

7 or more for me...Only Included Bands with at least 3 Albums.
Rush - I seriously can listen to anything by them. Although there are a few (Literally a few, like 3-4)songs I don't care for, I like all their albums.
Pink Floyd
Muse
Genesis - (While I don't love the Collins Era as much as the Gabriel era, the albums still have some great songs on them.)
The White Stripes
David Bowie
Arcade Fire
The Smashing Pumpkins
Queen
Yes
The Velvet Underground
Mike Patton - Tomahawk/Faith No More/Mr. Bungle/Peeping Tom/Fantomas

Rush-I can listen to any work these guys came out with and find it to be quite good. Out of curiosity Jhail what songs do you not care for by Rush. I'm not a blind Rush fanatic(fanatic I might be), my posts speak that so I'm just rather curious.
Yes-I found most of their work to be good, even their rather poppy albums but I love the group's vocal unity in studio and live.
Anthrax-I find to them to be a good thrash metal band, a band that fits my taste better than Metallica.(I do find Metallica's albums up to Master of Puppets to be good though.)
Blue Oyster-From Blue Oyster Cult's metal, to their hard rock, to their more piano driven work(Nosferatu) to be great.
King Crimson-Any work this band has pulled off is great in my opinion.
The Mars Volta-I like their body of work quite a lot, I can't say that for a lot more recent bands.
Soundgarden-See King Crimson
I make the 7 or more list at the rate I'm going, if I truly like the band I tend to like their entire set of work regardless if members change or a new musical direction is their calling.

Wow, hard question. Here's what I can think of at the moment:
1. Opeth (8 classic albums, but Ghost Reveries wasn't as classy as their other efforts, imo... though it's still awesome).
2. Death (around 7 albums, which are all pretty good... most of them pretty groundbreaking for death metal, imo)
3. X Japan (5 classics)
4. Mr. Bungle (All 3 albums are amazing and wildly diverse.)
5. Jimi Hendrix Experience (3 classic albums)
6. Portishead (2 good albums, but I'm not too big on the second one.)
7. Lovage (1 album, but it's awesome. Plus, I hear there will be a second one)

My picks would probably be Blink-182 or Bad Religion. For Blink, I like all their albums except the last one, and it's still all right. And Bad Religion, besides a few blips in the late 90's, have released several, several good CD's. Bands like Boston and The Police, who I'm still fans of, I found started out with amazing CD's, and the rest of their material was decent at best (still some good songs, but nothing like their originals)

Close but not quite:
P Funk-Library is too big with too many artists to like that high of a percentage

The Shins-one great album, Chutes Too Narrow, one good album-Wincing the Night Away, and one mediocre album with thier best song-Oh Inverted World

My Bloody Valentine: They only released one full-length album and a couple of EPs, but their isn't a single "bad" song in their very small discography.
The Jam: Regardless of whether we're talking about their earlier "punk" period or their later "punk-soul" period, they usually remained pretty consistent. They only had one mediocre album (The Modern World), but the album itself is still enjoyable/listenable.
Depeche Mode: Despite a few misteppings in the mid- to late- 90s, the rest of their discography makes up for the mediocrity.
Queen: With the exception of that album with "Body Language" on it (I have forever purged my memory of its name), I love everything else they had ever done. Even their material with Paul Rodgers isn't half-bad. Of course, I'd still love to have Freddie back...
As much as I hate to say it, I can't bring myself to add Devo to my list. Their synth-pop material from the mid-80s on just didn't have the same charm earlier Devo did. They should have stuck with the organic "guitars first, synthesizers second" philosophy they had on their first album.

They've released more than that. A lot of the early material is obscure and hard to find. I couldn't list them in this category... This is Your Bloody Valentine and the Geek EP (both 1985) are absolutely abyssmal in my opinion, no matter how good the stuff was after Ecstasy, Sunny Sunday Smile and Strawberry Wine.
If you only have Loveless and the associated singles and EPs, definitely look at picking up Isn't Anything. I think you'll like it.

Smashing Pumpkins - Like everything but Adore and Machina(Zeitgeist iis actually some pretty decent stuff)
Nirvana - Nevermind is decent, In Utero = PWNAGE, Bleach is aslo pretty good.
Pantera - Awesomeness that is described as Panther in Spanish.
Megadeth - It speaks for itself.
Iron Maiden - DiAnno and Dickinson, everything else = crap.
Led Zeppelin - Do I really have to say anything?
An Endless Sporadic - Not sure if this entirely counts but, it's hard to believe they're not even signed to a record label and yet, they're in GH3.

As if the band itself wasn't obscure enough. ;) It took me a long time to find Loveless and Glider, but I'm always on the look-out for new MBV material, so I'll definently keep an eye out for Isn't Anything. There aren't any record stores in my area, unfortunently, so I have to do most of my music shopping at department stores with severely limited selections.

to me, this thread translates to "which artist would you buy an album from.... regardless of having heard anything on it?"
:)
Hmm, it so much easier to think of it like that, but I'll try and answer properly.
I'm going to take this to mean actual songs, cutting out whole albums just seems wrong to me. However, this poses a problem for me, as a few of the bands I consider my favourites, I haven't actually heard all of their songs.
I'll start from the beginning.
The Offspring: Yes. I like every single track by this band.
Emilie Autumn: Now, here's a problem. She's only done 3 full albums and 2 Eps. I only own 2 of the Albums and 1 of the EPs, but I have heard most of the other EP. The problem is, I haven't heard anything from her first album, but I'm pretty sure I'll like it. I don't know if she fits...
Foo Fighters: There are still albums I haven't heard... but I am 100% sure I'll like them... they don't count...
Alien Ant Farm: If they'd stopped at their first album, yes. However, I can't find their 2nd or 3rd albums anywhere, so I can't make a decision.
I sound like such a sucky fan...
OOh, another one I remembered!
Willy Mason: Both albums are brilliant, woo, that's 2!
I'll think of more.

I picked 7 or more.
However, being that I have a 120,000 song library I should be able to pick a lot more than 7, but it's doubtful.
1. Rage Against The Machine - Generally a very solid band front to back, even the live albums are good listens front to back.
2. Led Zeppelin - Of course. Goes without saying. Even their less popular albums are still solid front to back.
3. Tool - Although I couldn't listen to a lot of the stuff on Lateralus over and over again, I'd fall asleep.
4. Coheed and Cambria - I know I'm gonna get a bunch of crap for this, but I like 90% of their songs. The only 3 that I don't play on a regular basis are 21:13, The Light and the Glass and Feathers. Light and the Glass has a huge buildup, so does 21:13, long even for Coheed. Feathers just sucks. Other than that, I like EVERY Coheed song they've ever done.
5. AC/DC - And yes, I have all of their albums, even the '74 Jailbreak EP. They never made a 'bad' album in my opinion.
6. Muse - I guess this depends on whether we include the Hullabaloo soundtrack. I didn't quite like Hullabaloo as much and some of their acoustic versions, but if we're talking specifically their album based discography, they're a completely solid band.
7. Green Day - Not complex, not technical, not progressive. But definitely 90% listenable.
8. Guns N Roses - This is just my opinion, but I don't remember any GNR songs that I disliked.
9. Metallica - This is where you all badmouth me for actually liking 'Load', 'Reload' and 'Garage Inc.' Undoubtedly not nearly as good as the Black Album, Kill Em All, And Justice For All, Master of Puppets etc. I'm fairly sure this is an unpopular opinion, but I can listen to their entire discography.
10. Nine Inch Nails - I don't listen to a lot of their slower material on a regular basis though. I admit that I like pretty much everything they've ever done, but I'm more partial to their louder works and the Pretty Hate Machine era in general. Overall I would say that 90% of their discography is good, even the last two albums.
11. The Eagles. Very consistent.
12. Bob Marley and the Wailers - Okay, so they're technically not a 'rock band'. So what? Maximum replay value.
lol im the only "1" vote.
Personally the band would be The Beatles. Because i love every one of their songs except that annoying ballad of john and yoko.

Would love to put Maiden here but anything beyond Fear of the Dark is just not easy to listen to for me. SO having said that:
Bad Religion:
I can pick out all time classic songs on ALL of their records but the consistency of absolute amazement I get listening to them on ALL recordings is second to none. Even their departure synth record that is out of print and extremely limited (I have an unopened record...my pride and joy), remains consistent. They are still great live, great in their views and have matured better than any other group IMHO.

I am extremely surprised at the reply for "7 or more".
I expected ''2 to 3" to win.

Interesting poll... it made sit there and actually think for a minute. There are a lot of bands that I enjoy but they have a plethora of songs which I can honestly say that I detest.
For the bands that I picked... my first one was Nine Inch Nails. I absolutely love Trent Reznor, the man is a genius. Even the instrumental only stuff is enjoyable, granted I don't have it on my Ipod because it eats up a lot of memory.
Anything by Chris Cornell really is my next one. I've loved this guy's music since I was a wee child and my brother would play it in the car. I was probably like five or six the first time I heard him. I prefer his work with soundgarden but Audioslave is up there and his solo work can be pretty deep. Can't Change me will always be one of my favorite songs in general.
Pearl Jam was next... originally I wasn't really a fan of them. However they grew on me as this is easily my brother's favorite band. I would hear them all day... we own their entire discography now.
That is it really... other bands come close but they have songs out there I can't stand. Some good examples would be Muse, Garbage, Smashing Pumpkins, and Stone Temple Pilots.

The only bands that I TRULY enjoy the full disco' of are extremely obscure
By the End of Tonight
Explosions in the Sky
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
A Silver Mount Zion
The only three bands who are mainstream that I like the whole disco' of are
Suicidal Tendencies
S.O.D. ( But they only have one album technically >_> )
Dead Kennedys
Despite this I have the discography of around 20-30 bands.
If we're talking 90%, Slayer barely makes it in there.

At the moment, I can only confidently say one, Disturbed. It's factoring in the 90%; I mean there's lots of bands I love like Aerosmith, Def Leppard, and Van Halen, but I'm not into their music that much that came out after the early 90's, so it's difficult to say. I'd say Linkin Park and Stone Sour are close as well.

Nirvana, System Of A Down, Alice In Chains, Weird Al, Rage Against The Maching, and Serj Tankian (if you can count him. he has only one album out)

different lyrics? AC/DC? lol, you sure about that? they tend to retread a lot of the same territorry. but i guess if someone really really really likes what they do they'd like it done again and again over eleven albums.

AC/DC did not reatread the same territory for 11 albums. In fact, they retread the same territory fo twelve albums.

If I can split Genesis into two bands, the one that was fronted by Gabriel, the other by Collins, then I can include Gabriel's Genesis. Other than that, most bands I know where they experiment badly with new styles, or have an era where they focus on singles instead of albums.

At the moment, I can only think of four:
Muse
The Beatles
Rage Against the Machine
System of a Down
There are some others, like Motörhead and Rammstein, that I want to list, but I can't say, with 100% certainty, that they fit this criteria.
