View Full Version : Control Pad on Drums

I had mentioned this a while back on the thread devoted to the drums, but nobody seemed to take any consideration in it. Then I recently read it in one of the reviews.. I forget which one though... My problem is the placement with the control pad thing on the drums. If you look at the picture you will see that it is right, smack in the middle of the drums. I really can just see myself going nuts on those things and being the bad drummer that I am accidentally hitting the pad and maybe breaking it or pausing the game or something. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? I just think that it is poor placement. I know that all the instruments are probably finalized but I just wanted to get some thought on this.

It's just like with the old start button: if you hit it, it's because you have bad technique, and therefor no reason to complain ;)

I think thats just about the only and most convenient place to put the controls on the drums. The pads are pretty large and I would think they should not be hard to miss. Even if you do every once and a while, you probably have a good chance of not hitting the buttons.

I think you would have to miss pretty bad. And the only reason you would miss really bad was if you were using an obviously bad technique.

It has been stated on numerous occasions that the hardware has been significantly scrutinized... if hitting pause was a common problem, you'd think it would have been rectified.

I used to hit the 360 Guide button all the time. Not anymore. Got used to it. I assume that's how this'll be. Just don't hit your sticks to hard until you stop hitting the control pad. :)

I dunno... Sure if you pressed the button on the guitar controller it would pause but your not hitting it with a wooden drumstick. Although your aim would have to be pretty bad things like that do happen.

I meant the regular controller. :p

And like I said, don't hit your drum pads very hard until you get used to them.

Alrighty. Guess I'm just scared for nothing lol. Just want to protect my investment.

I definitely know what you mean. I was worried when I got my Xplorer for the first time, now I shred that strum bar to hell. And it still works.

Somebody on these boards posted a review where they mentioned this exact problem. They said when they were playing for the tour they hit the guide button twice during their time on the drums. It will just take some getting used to mostly... and maybe a nice plexiglass custom cover ;)

Oh yeah. At PAX a lot of people were accidentally hitting the guide button. I don't think it will be a long term problem though, because you'll learn the position of the pads, and you won't have to worry about hitting the guide button.

Yep, including myself (while playing with Love Bucket of all times  ). HMX had actually "made" some protectors for it because it was happening so much (just some circle thingy with black tape to hold it down and look inconspicuous). As I get used to the set I'll probably do something similar just to avoid it happening and might even just leave it there. When I'm rocking out my hands go everywhere! Better to be safe than the object of "aaahh!!!"'s in the group, haha.
