I am asking this to people who have played the drum game.
When it gives those free form fills (which i hate) does the pad turn into like an electric drum machine, and it plays what you play? Or does it play the correct fill as long as you bang on the pads? or something else? If anyone knows, tell me please, thanks.

Each pad is set to something different, so it isn't a pre-determined fill for the song, you are actually playing your own fill and getting to put a little improvisation into the song. Basically no two times playing through a song with drums would necessarily have to be alike.

i dont get why they would make you play the wrong fills. I saw a video of say it aint so, and they beat on the drums during the fill (which is suposed to be slow) and he got like more points....wtf. Just like you have to master insane solos, you should have to master the fills as well.

I'm not so sure how it is with Rock drumming, my experience with drumming is mostly in Jazz. But I remember that being able to improv drumfills was one of the most important aspects of the drumming craft. Even in the sheet music, drum fills were never filled out for you, they were always improv. Just copying someone elses fills, even if you're playing their song, just didn't happen. You always had your own.
So to me, the idea of improv fills makes a whole heck of a lot of sense. Any drummers, especailly professional ones, know if Rock is the same as Jazz in this way?

Its so you can make the song your own, and in my opinion it adds to it, and allows you to improvise. Also as long as you play the fill you get the same amount of points no matter how many or little notes you play.
So it doesn't encourage drumming as fast as you can but instead creating your own cool sounding fills. I mean if you really wanted to you could play the fill as it is in the song too, you just need to figure it out.

there are certain fills though, that i feel are very important to the song, and that their rhythms contribute greatly to the song as a whole. Being that this game is about a group, if the drummer decides to add an insanely fast solo where there should be a slow and restrained solo, i think that it hurts the entire performance.
I play drums in a band and still feel that it would be more fun to master the performed fills rather than improv.

That's a completely reasonable point of view, but I really like the fact that Harmonix is creating aspects of the game that favor improvisation over mechanical reproduction.
If my wife wants to croon a sultry, creepy version of Enter Sandman, or I want to try an over-the-top, Emo version of Don't Fear the Reaper, the game allows that.
Signature fills allow each player to have their own take on the song.
To a lesser extent, even the effects switch will allow guitarists to add their own awesome or humorous angle.
I'm looking forward to aspects of the game that allow you to prioritize showmanship over scoremongering.

Well you can play the correct fill if you want, or you can make a BETTER fill. It may be wrong but if your good enough you can make whatever you want.

Sorry but I love the fills. It's a great feature giving an already great game some sexy legs.
Although it may provide, ya know work, just learn how to play the real fill.

There are some fills that are left intact most of the ones you are talking about, if it is felt that they contribute to the song too much to take out, they were not taken out. Now this all comes down to the opinion of the people at Harmonix, and they really know what they are doing most of the time, and if the song flows way better with that fill in there as is, then they will leave it, and you will have no choice but to play it as it was in the song.
