This game is really no place for Country Music Im personally a fan of the music i married a country fan of a wife...but if a country thing was ever to become a game i see it more like a karaoke style of game over a band playing type thing if that makes sense.

No. Most country is far too repetitive and boring, I don't know if you've paid attention to the drums in most country songs, but I'm sure the drummer is so bored, they're doing lines of cocaine off their toms while playing the songs.
The game is called "Rock Band." Not "Country Band." Southern Rock is as close as they should get.

Honestly, suggesting country is no worse than selecting anything else out there. Somebody on this forum is gonna think it sucks no matter what the genre, band, or artist!
I've said it before, most people that post on here have a view on music narrower than the disk it's played from.

It's not about whether I agree with his tastes in music, it's about the fact that country music is a showcase for the singer/words, not for any of the other music. Sure country music has catchy music, and there are exceptions where there are some really dynamic country songs, but in modern country, the music takes a backseat to the singer/vocals and it's repetitive and boring.

Every class of music has it's catchy and backseat music, not just country. You are entitled to your opinion, but I think you are wrong. I listen to country every day and I have heard more than a few songs that have just as, if not more, interesting guitar, bass, and drum lines than half the songs currently available. I don't know if you fit into this category or not, but most people who classify an entire genre, either positively or negatively, are biased. In other words, because you have programmed yourself or have allowed yourself to be programmed, you automatically label a song as simple or bad because of it's origin.
"Repetitive and boring"? Do you even play this game? Almost every song, with some exceptions, has the same riff or lick played over and over again except for the bridges and solos, and even those are sometimes just variations of the main tune. GG&HT is especially guilty of that. I should know, I've played it friggin enough! Every song repeats itself, it's what makes it a song!

yes there's such a thing as a 'country band'; much better than lone pop-country singers.

Some country would be awesome. Garth Brooks and Dierks Bently would be great. And I'm gonna have to go with the last guy, if it's "Rock only" then why are there those stupid techno songs on there? Not all country is bad, boring and anymore repetitive than any other genre.

No, I'm not over the top, you are. You are lumping an entire genre and those who listen and enjoy it into one big group (hillbilly). That's stereotyping which is usually used and purported by the ignorant and bigoted. To me, it's the same as using the "N" word, saying Jewish people are cheap, and Asians are good at math. I could say that all rock is performed and listened to by a bunch of alcoholic, drug using slackers, but I don't and I won't, because it isn't true.
I, unlike you, have the ability to appreciate all forms of music, from country, rock, techno, pop, classical, Jazz, R&B, and even rap. Each has it's place and fan base. I will never say that any class as a whole "sucks", since there are songs in every category that I enjoy, and some that I don't. I'm open minded and try at every opportunity to try to understand it's appeal. You do not and don't even give it a chance. You already have your mind made up based on ignorance, and that sir, is bigoted.
You don't like country, which means you don't KNOW country, so you are in no way qualified to determine what does or does not work or belongs in this game. The OP made a suggestion, just like thousands of others on these boards, and he is entitled to it without the hashing and bashing of your lot. State you don't like it, fine...but don't degrade or belittle it based on your inability to acknowledge it's finer points.

They put the Beastie Boys in here I wouldnt call them rock at all...Some country would be fine in here Chris LaDux had some pretty damn good guitar riffs in some of his songs G.Strait had some great songs...Still Alive made it in thats not rock at all...So to say oh the game is called Rock Band is point less the facts are it is a music game and the people HMX have proven they are gonna put a wide range of things in here..
So agree I wouldnt have a issue with country music if it wasent something I wanted I just wouldnt download it easy enough fix for me lol..

GG&HT is especially guilty of that. I should know, I've played it friggin enough! Every song repeats itself, it's what makes it a song!
First of all, have you ever even actually played in a real band? I have, drums, bass, guitar and vocals. And all the groups I was a part of were touring, functioning bands that recorded and released records (real records, like made of vinyl....sorry, I miss vinyl).
Anyway, yes, I play the game. I know what actually playing a real song is like and exactly how much repetition goes into a song.
But country is on a different level, the beats are much slower, my favorite part of most country music is the steel guitar, and it's not in every song. The damn game is called Rock Band for a reason, and people keep asking about the techno songs, techno is a sub-genre of rock.
I will still maintain that country music, especially it's modern pop form, not alt-country, or Hank Williams III or anything like that, is about the singer and the words to songs. The music takes a backseat and it would not translate well to being played in this game.
As I said, there are exceptions to everything and perhaps those could be found and turned into DLC, but I would rather it be the exception and not the rule.
And by the way, you don't know jack about me, I've seen Garth Brooks, Alabama, Ronnie Milsap, Johnny Cash, Randy, Travis, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Eddie Rabbit, Kris Kristofferson and a few other country artists live. I know what REAL country music is and is about, not this pop crap that's played nowadays. Along with the nearly 100 or so rock performances I've seen, and the various bluegrass/folk festivals, opera, and symphonic concerts I go to, I think I'm pretty damn well rounded musically. Don't tell me or anyone else here they're narrowminded or bigoted just because when someone asks a fairly and obviously ridiculous question about country DLC being included in a game that's about ROCK AND ROLL.
If you want country music so bad, get some investors, some programmers, buy the licensing rights to your favorite songs and release a "Country Band" game, you know, since Harmonix made open standard instruments, you don't even have to create fake plastic instruments to go with it.

I'll keep this short...point-counterpoint:
First of all, have you ever even actually played in a real band? I have, drums, bass, guitar and vocals. And all the groups I was a part of were touring, functioning bands that recorded and released records (real records, like made of vinyl....sorry, I miss vinyl).
Yes I have. Symphonies, Concert bands, Jazz bands, Country bands, Rock bands, duets, trios, quartets, and quints. I play woodwind, brass, and string instruments.
Anyway, yes, I play the game. I know what actually playing a real song is like and exactly how much repetition goes into a song.
Funny, your attitude says otherwise. Most actual musicians who truly appreciate music give all forms their due credit. You resort to short sighted generalizations.
But country is on a different level, the beats are much slower, my favorite part of most country music is the steel guitar, and it's not in every song. The damn game is called Rock Band for a reason, and people keep asking about the techno songs, techno is a sub-genre of rock.
Slower? That again, is a distorted and inaccurate generalization. No, steel guitar is not in every song. So what? What's the relevance to this discussion other than it's your favorite part? And yes, we are all very aware what the game's name is. That point has been beat to death and holds "0" merit since there are several songs available that are not technically rock.
I will still maintain that country music, especially it's modern pop form, not alt-country, or Hank Williams III or anything like that, is about the singer and the words to songs. The music takes a backseat and it would not translate well to being played in this game.
Who cares, the point is there is an audience for it. It will sell, and it will sell well, regardless of how inappropriate YOU may find it. So some songs are lyric heavy, big deal? Some country songs are guitar heavy, others drum heavy, etc. Again, how does any of that disqualify them from being included here? It's not your call to make. The call is made by those who pay money and download them.
As I said, there are exceptions to everything and perhaps those could be found and turned into DLC, but I would rather it be the exception and not the rule.
You can "rather" all you want. There are hundreds of country songs out there that fit the Rock Band formula to a "t", as there are hundreds if not thousands of rock songs that don't. Hell, in some slower songs the guitar part is being picked by all 5 fingers (The Thunder Rolls for example) which translates to fast strumming or heavy HO/POs when you only have one strumbar. However, when actually played, each note is picked, so to stay true to form, you would have to strum. Sounds like fun to me.
I've seen all of those, and more, but I don't think going to a bunch of concerts makes you or me an expert on anything in anyway. To me, that's just some weak method of validating your already weak argument. You'll win no points here with a simple attendance record. You say you're well rounded then contradict that by lambasting someone's request of music he enjoys. Not only is that childish, it's mean...oh and did I mention narrow minded?
Unlike you, I don't have a problem with what you call "pop crap" since all genres eventually spawn sub-genres. All classes of music adapt and change with the times. Look at all the groups rock has spawned, but it's still rock...at least to most. I still remember the Hair band/Grunge transition in the early to mid 90s. Back on track...what qualifies a song as "Real" country is in the eye (or should I say ear) of the beholder. Again, not your call to make.
I'm sorry, but you are narrow minded and bigoted, if not also greedy and self serving. Your attitude tells me that given the audience (which I'm positive is out there), if you had the songs to offer that you wouldn't because of semantics or that fact that you seem to think that the music is somehow inferior? That is ridiculous.
If you want country music so bad, get some investors, some programmers, buy the licensing rights to your favorite songs and release a "Country Band" game, you know, since Harmonix made open standard instruments, you don't even have to create fake plastic instruments to go with it.
Where in any posts did I say "I" wanted it? Granted, I wouldn't mind, but I have yet to make one suggestion for any song on these boards, and I won't. I'm not picky. I have downloaded every song offered except the Thrash and NIN pack, and I don't even know most of those bands, but I have a lot of faith in HMX to keep supplying good music. I believe that there is way too much involved in getting us what they do to weight them down with frivolous requests.
Create my own game...pfft...now who's being ridiculous? I'll be honest, I don't have the tech know-how to do any of that, nor the time, energy, or resources. All I'm doing here is defending someone who wants something so many seem to think doesn't belong!
Bottom line, there is no reason Country could not be included in this game outside of short sighted individual's opinions such as yours.

Bottom line, there is no reason Country could not be included in this game outside of short sighted individual's opinions such as yours.
No, bottom line is that the reason country should not be included as DLC is that the damn game is called ROCK BAND. What part of those two monosyllabic words do you not understand?
Just because you think you're "Mr. Enlightened" you think your opinion is more valid than others and that it invalidates everyone else who thinks that country shouldn't be made as DLC for a game that is about ROCK AND ROLL.

"No, bottom line is that the reason country should not be included as DLC is that the damn game is called ROCK BAND."
I understand the words, however again you are applying short sighted semantics. Country is not outside the scope of this game, even the developers have stated as much:
You might be surprised there. We get letters, e-mails, and requests all the time for country music. I would also point out that we did develop a country music game in the past (KR: Country).
Anyway, I'm not saying one way or the other. Rather, most music genres that make sense are within the realm of possibility for Rock Band.
I would consider Green Grass and High Tides country. And it's in Rock Band. I fail to see your point.
"Just because you think you're "Mr. Enlightened" you think your opinion is more valid than others and that it invalidates everyone else who thinks that country shouldn't be made as DLC for a game that is about ROCK AND ROLL."
No, I'm not enlightened, just open minded. I don't let my opinion or personal taste judge whether someone else's suggestion shouldn't be considered. I don't degrade, belittle, or insult someone else's musical tastes. This game is just as much theirs as it is mine, and if they want to suggest polka music, that's up to them if that's what they are into.
Without Country, there would be no Rock and Roll...it's roots are based on country, as well as Jazz and Blues.
My argument for; most country has the components to fit in this game: Guitar, Bass, Drums, and Vocals and it has the fan base (at least I think so).

Rock wasn't really based on Country, Rock, at the start, was mainly based off of Jazz and Blues and some of the early innovations of artists like Ike Turner. However, Country does influence some Rock, such as Bluegrass.

Some Johnny Cash songs would be absolutely awesome. He is one of the best and most influential artists of all time, across all genres. And, as others have already said, songs like 'Still Alive', Freeze Pop songs, and even 'Green Grass and High Tides' certainly are not strictly 'ROCK', so country music would fit in just fine.
