Do you think HMX is using this nationwide tour as an opportunity to test their online multiplayer with consoles across the nation VS. consoles in office? The thought just occurred to me that this would be a great way to ensure the online functionalities are playable right out of the box and won't need patches to fix (I'm looking at you, Saints Row)...

I don't think so, as there are just 3 games set up in the trailer. You can play alone, or with up to 3 other people. Granted, I didn't try to launch an online game...

Well, there are times when the booths are closed and they aren't driving to the next destination. That and there could potentially be some HMX employee setting up a test-station somewhere else besides the truck.

They wouldn't need a tour to test online multiplayer. But I guess they could be playing online anyway from time to time just to ensure that everything is working to expectations. I'm sure the tour wasn't founded on testing online multiplayer, and if they're doing that at all, it's likely something small on the side.

According to the blogs, online multiplayer was being tested months ago from the employee's homes. The tour vans would be terrible places to test online multiplayer, and for the most part they are not manned by Harmonix QA/developers anyway.

I remember Sean talking about how he was testing it out just in the office with everyone.

Exactly, just go online. Both people can be in the same room and it'll work just the same.

Still, ideally you wanna test out having players geographically separated to test the latency. But yeah....

Nah, you just need really long network cables ;)

You can simulate any kind of latency you want in-house.

No, they are not testing online multiplayer at all with the tour. That option looked to be disabled on the menu. The "Local" multiplayer option was selectable of that lot for the all-in-the-same-room band.

Other than that, I only saw Solo Quick Play and the Calibration in Options as selectable from the menu screen.

Still kind of bummed we couldn't see the character creator in person. Ah well.

There's a number of ways to simulate the conditions of an online experience from within a single office. It wouldn't be necessary to have setups across the country.
