View Full Version : Without a doubt, the worst RB preview I've seen...

From a Rolling Stone article (posted on that site August 16, I never saw it posted here, and I'm kind of glad I didn't)....
http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2007/08/16/rock-band-a-hands-on-test-of-the-most-anticipated-video-game-of-the-year/
Here's some excerpts for you that may make you laugh (or cry)...
In fact, it’s made by same MIT Media Lab music brainiacs (Harmonix) who created Guitar Hero (as well as a slew of other music games from Karaoke Revolution to Amplified).
Harmonix claims that if you ace a song in advanced mode, you’re technically able to play the song on real instruments.
Yes, but you’ll have to wait until December, when it’s scheduled to come out.
So many little obvious errors in there, I couldn't stand to read it. :( And I'll read anything Rock Band related.

That might be the worst thing I've read, they really need to do their research.

Did anyone else notice this line in the article?
"We recently visited with Harmonix Octane at their Los Angeles headquarters to preview their upcoming Guitar Band game."

Ack! That whole sentence makes me cringe. What a bunch of retreads. And...Amplified???? WTF ?
Why bother printing that uninformed misprinted garbage?

So I guess maybe their claims of "One" being licenced for Rock Band should be taken with a grain of salt eh :D

They did cite a publicist of Metallica, though. That's a pretty concrete statement.

Curiously, they did omit any mention of "Enter Sandman" though (at least in what I read), which leads me to believe they either got confused or just assumed that both games had the same song.

I think "confused" is the best way to describe Rolling Stone.

well, the article wasn't that bad. at least they suggest the game should be bought, and that they liked it.

I dunno, I thought it was kind of interesting getting a review from someone obviously oblivious to the genre. Kind of a new set of eyes to review it, rather than the same exact review time after time by guitar hero prodigies. Although, yah there were some silly mistakes, as the only instrument they would claim you'd be able to get the actual feel for on expert mode would be drums, and vocals i guess. They would NOT claim that on drums and bass though.
...and 'Amplified' was pretty funny.

Definately...pretty hilarious errors though.

The fact they're named after an overrated drug-induced band doesn't help lol in my humble opinion of course

I always thought they were named after "Like A Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan.

All moot of course because they hardly know anything about music anymore... I'll bet if you asked the average contributor they wouldn't know much about either.

Best part for me. If that were true, I should be able to play YYZ for real.
On my way, actually. I got the intro down.

I got the intro and pretty much the solo down for Sweet Child O' Mine (real guitar) and working on Welcome to the Jungle... not really that hard either :)

Holy God, did someone just have some sort of spasm at the keyboard? Seriously, that's horrible.
Anybody know if that was ever actually in a Rolling Stone magazine or just the website? I'm too lazy to look through past issues. I was really scared off from reading it since I got the issue with Zack Efron (or whoever) on the front rubbing himself in the mail.
