View Full Version : Am I the only one who enjoys modding as much as playing?!!

At first, I was so upset when the intruments first started to break in the various ways we all know all too well.
But a strange thing has happened. My obsession...no lets call it passion. My passion led me to open them up and fix them (which is not something I have ever considered a hobby).
Now I spend as much time thinking of and doing mods to the instruments!
Anyone else?
Mods to date:
New strummer in both guitars (BYTEARTS and they are wondeerful!!!)
Switched the solo buttons to top -- then put them back
Added a phono jack that connects to the SELECT button, so I can use a foot pedal switch to activate overdrive
Currently looking in to adding XLR mic connection to mic chord...

I've got a bytearts strummer in one and, while it works beautifully, I prefer having the original. The click irritates me no end and though it's not nearly as bad as gh click it's still pretty annoying.
That guitar is the mod guitar and has the effects switch removed and replaced with an effects tuning peg.
I'm planning to retrofit a wah pedal to become a whammy pedal.
I'm planning to replace the tilt sensors (which are pretty much non functional) with tip-over sensors so that they'l be more reliable and you'll need a full upswing to set off star power (anybody that makes an OD pedal needs a smack for being a little *****)
I'm glad you put the solo buttons back in their rightful place though. The solo switch is also a smack worthy mod

I like modding my gear too - sometimes it's just minor stuff like anti-vibe sticks and drum pads, the guitar has a ByteArts strummer and I plan to modify the tilt sensor... If I ever get ambitious I might swap the solo frets to the other end - simply because the solo buttons are too tiny for my hands. a stomp pedal for overdrive might be nice too.
And then there are the cosmetic modifications - skinning all my guitars, painting the pick guard, etc. I like my gear to look unique and personalized.

I'm kind of jealous of you guys who have the skill and know-how to make all these mods to your RB instruments. It's cool that you enjoy it. Some of the extra mods and aesthetic changes sound pretty interesting. Unfortunately, I'm not much of a do-it-yourselfer.
As for all the mods that people do just to FIX the instruments and make them work like they should have in the first place ---- is it too much for RB users to ask that the instruments actually come in working order so we don't have to put socks on our drums or an elastic band on our whammy bar?

I wouldn't mind getting a real guitar and somehow switching out the electronics. When i took the rock band guitar apart it was jammed packed unfortunately.
It would take alot of drilling to make enough room but anything is possible. I haven't seen anyone on the internet do it yet which is surprising cause its the most natural mod.
A real wood neck... sweet!

Coors Light has modified GH guitars. I played at this bar where Coors has a contest and you play on their wireless Coors painted real guitars. After the whole contest the winner gets to keep one. I didnt know anyting about that untill I was at the bar when they were setting it up...
I also feel like I need a modded guitar. If things worked to my likeing as new I wouldnt have to. The strummer is total crap IMO. So thats the first to go. I think its cool that there are places to get it replaced but to dump another $20 into it is not how I roll.. If anyone wants some free help with any mods or cheap parts let me know, I will hook you up...

I'm having an extreme amount of fun planning a custom drum kit. I had a fun time working on making my own bass pedal and such.
Can't wait to bust out some materials and have a little fun. Geek projects are so fun!

I'm planning to retrofit a wah pedal to become a whammy pedal.
I've thought about doing this one myself, esp. since I mainly play bass and most bass guitars don't have a whammy bar. Unfortunately I like being wireless more, easier to rock out :)
