View Full Version : Bands Starting with "A", An Experiment

I have a theory I'd like to test out. I've mentioned multiple times in threads that I feel that if HMX can get us to like 20% of the DLC content they put out, then that's a complete success. Obviously everyone has different tastes and what not, but I feel that anyone with a diverse catalog of music can get at least 20% appeal. Naturally, a theory is nothing without testing so here it goes.
I'm going to use songs just from my playlist alone. I have around 13K songs on my playlist so, yeah picking about 100 out of them would be tedious. That said, for the sake of this, I'm going to use JUST bands that start with the letter A. If this is popular or sparks interesting debate, I might move on to B and what not. Anyway, I'm going to pick 100 songs from bands starting with A with the objective to get as many people as possible to like 20 of them (aka 20%. Math ftw.) I'll put up a poll and just please be honest with what you actually like. Or even if you don't like the song, you at least think it would be good to be on Rock Band.
I don't expect everyone to have heard of ALL 100 songs, but just take this with a grain of salt. Without further ado, here are the 100 A's:

Alice in Chains "Would?"
Alien Ant Farm "Movies"
I'd take Audioslave, but they just never worked for me. You left Army of Anyone off the list. I'd take "It doesn't seem to matter". I'd also take some Antrax like "time".

Well, I was only using stuff I personally have. If I was using every band that ever started with A, I'd be in massive trouble! Hopefully if others have suggestions on "A" bands as well, I'd love to do some research and listen to them.
I do like Anthrax, I just don't happen to own any CDs.

I know that I know 7 songs on your list which I would buy. My problem lies with the fact that DJ's don't always announce the song that they have played. So there is a lot of songs that I know but don't know the name of, if that makes sense.

I'm not sure if your list is skewed or not, seeing as all of these groups are a little more "modern" [minus AC/DC], but that's aside from the point. I'm all for a little boost in modern music, so this list was rather appealing.
I would seriously look into purchasing;
AC/DC "Hell's Bells"
AC/DC "Back In Black"
AC/DC "Thunderstruck"
The Academy Is... "We've Got a Big Mess on Our Hands"
AFI "Kill Caustic"
AFI "Love Like Winter"
AFI "Girl's Not Grey"
Alesana "Ambrosia"
Alesana "Pathetic, Ordinary"
Alesana "Last Three Letters"
Alexisonfire ".44 Caliber Love Letter"
Alexisonfire "Drunks, Lovers, Sinners, Saints"
Alexisonfire "This Could Be Anywhere in the World"

All That Remains "Six"
All That Remains "The Air That I Breathe"
All That Remains "Focus Shall Not Fail"
All That Remains "This Darkened Heart"

Makes complete sense. I don't listen to radio much anymore because I prefer to have full control over what I hear. That and commercials are much too frequent. I tried to hit a variety of Rock subgenres in my list in order to appeal to as many as possible. Anberlin/Acceptance are more of a solid rock sound. Abandoned Pools and Arctic Monkeys are a bit more on the Alternative side. Then there are bands like All That Remains, At the Gates, As I Lay Dying that are metal. Since my goal was to appeal to as many as possible in the largest quantity possible, I was really shooting for variety.

I didn't really intend to do it that way to be honest. It just so happened that a lot of the older bands I have on my playlist don't star with the letter A :D. But believe me, I do like my share of older stuff too. The Who, Led Zeppelin, Rush, The Scorpions. All good stuff! If I ever do end up making the "B" list, I guarantee there will be a better mix in of older stuff.
Blue Oyster Cult, Boston, Bon Jovi.
90's stuff like Barenaked Ladies, older Blink 182, Beastie Boys.

I do not like Aerosmith and unfortunately I do not have any stuff by the Acro-Brats. Though I do enjoy all the stuff I've heard from them!

13. Haven't heard of most of those, and there are quite a few that I don't like at all. Basically, I went with AC/DC, Audioslave, Alient Ant Farm's Smooth Criminal, and Andrew W.K.
