I'm guessing this was part (or all?) of the 2% Harmonix was still working on the Guitar Hero franchise.

Going live tonight at 2am PST, RedOctane is releasing a brand new set of songs for all you shredders out there. The pack will be the standard 500 Microsoft Points, and contain the following tracks:

Trivium - Detonation
Atreyu - Right Side of the Bed
Protest the Hero - Bury the Hatchet

No idea what any of those songs are.. (new content?) Was hoping for some of the bigger gh1 tracks--Ironman specifically.. but I'll go check it out on youtube and see what it's like. I need something that's not MCR to tide me over for the next couple months.

It still is confusing to me why they are still doing DLC for GH II with Rock Band and GH III around the corner, but I'm sure it is making 360 owners with GH II happy so its fine with me. I wonder if this will continue once GH III is released.

Thats Effing Badass!

It was just a smurfs pubic hair away from "The Crusade", maybe DLC for GHIII.

This might make me actually buy GHII for the 360, I've been holding off, because I really don't wanna own 6 guitars... Only 4 :-)

They've sold 650,000 song packs (source (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/11/guitar-hero-ii-dlc-goes-multi-platinum/)). At $6.25 each, that's $4 MILLION in net sales. Why wouldn't they keep putting DLC out? As long as suckers keep spending $2+ for each song, they'll keep putting them out.

More original tracks! We'll have to see if they're any good, but I am excited.

I really hope the DLC is playable on gh3, cause ive bought every pack so far, and I'll probably never play it again once gh3, if its not.

You know, for older material on previous GH games, I would ***** about. But new stuff, kickass stuff, bonafide badass songs I would pay 2 bucks+ for. This is just like the MCR pack, though, not for everybody (just like this pack), it still something new and fresh and worth a bit more then the older GH1 song packs.

That makes no sense at all. Why would they do that? GHII and GHIII use different coding, the graphics are different, etc, etc. The only thing you could possibly get close to that is if they re-released them for GH3, and that would be a very low blow.

And second, why quit GH2 when GH3 is out? That or GH1 will never get old to me, and always should be treasured, not thrown out like yesterdays garbage because something new is out.

True. I'm not referencing people who truly are excited for this and feel that these songs are worth $2. I'm talking about everyone else. $2 is still a lot more than buying a disc full of songs, so unless it's stuff you won't find on the original disc (like this), an artist pack, or you want to pick and choose for your eclectic tastes ($6.25 for 3 songs is still cheaper than buying a whole disc for only 3 songs) you're just handing Activision a huge wad of cash and reassuring them that $2/song was the way to go.

Want to know what is pathetic? We (myself included) get all worked up when we get three new songs. I don't really want to open up this 'can of worms' but we really shouldn't be all worked up over this. We are because we have gotten crap over the last 5 months. I'm just hoping that when DLC happens for Rockband we don't get a post every day say "NEW DLC". If HMX follows through I hope DLC becomes the normal and mundane. I will still get hyped for it but not 'Oh my GOD.....!!! I can't wait to play the new DLC'

it's really a step up in my eyes to see harmonix giving protest the hero some recognition.

Like $2 is so much money, man alive. People love to *****.

I don't have a 360, I have a PS2, but I'd pay $2 for a song that I'll play again and again. That's 2 plays in a modern arcade (at least last time I was near an arcade machine).

Not *****ing. Just noticing that you can get 40 songs for $50 on a game disc. I also said that it might be worth it for people who are picking and choosing and don't want a full 40 songs they may not like as much as those 3.

It was pretty directly stated in a GH3 interview that there will be no compatibility between the tracks in GH2 and GH3... two totally different systems. Sorry. :(

didn't really buy any of the others, but definitely getting this songpack. Used to love atreyu.. but they have better stuff than rsotb..Trivium is nice (but UGH, from the crusade..?), and I had heard of Protest the hero but never listened to them.. but after hearing the song OMG I can't freaking wait. Best songpack so far easily and the PTH song is probably going to be one of my favorites now from the sound of it (sounds insane to play + bad ass), I hope RB get's some sick stuff like this.

just need to see some mastodon and he is legend and dredg and symphony x and opeth and dream theater now. (no I will never stop until they are in the game.)

It's already confirmed in an interview with RedOctane that GH2 song packs will not be compatible with GH3. Different code/engine=incompatible. I'm lazy, so I'm not taking the time to find it, but it was some interview on a GH3 bus in germany, if that rings any bells for people.

I havent been following GH3 news much except for the tracklisting, so i didnt know about them confirming that the gh2 dlc wouldnt be compatable. I sort of assumed it wouldnt be, but was still holding out a little hope. Thanks for the info guys.

BTW I dont know who im trying to fool, im going to buy it. I own gh1/2 on the ps2 and I still bought all the packs already.
