Im wondering if the instruments will have the same usb for ps3 and 360. I ask this because I have friends who play the ps3 and some who play the 360, so it would be easier to use theirs on one console.

I'm pretty sure that every instrument is single platform only. But heck, I've been proven wrong before, I might be wrong.

When HMX had their big interview on XFire, they said MS and Sony needed to play nice for that to happen.

So, no cross platform controllers. Besides, XBox controllers need the button with the big green X on it. Doubt Sony wants those on the PS3...

The PS3 Controllers are wireless i'm not sure a wired version has even been mentioned there isn't one for sale at Gamestop etc so if the PS3 controllers are wireless only then you wont be able to use them on the 360, PS3 uses Blue-tooth the 360 uses it's own wireless technology.. as for USB it's a standard so as long as the PS3 version of the game allows for USB support then i don't see a problem in the actual use of the 360 version of the RB Wired controller although the 360 only buttons ie the equivalent of the PS home button wont work so that would be an issue.

[HMX] DanT: Q: ????????(???)?????? !!!!: Hey Harmonix, first off I love your games. Will PS3 and Xbox 360 be able to play online with each other? I know that I myself have a PS3 but my friends have 360s. Anyway around this?
A: Unfortunately, Microsoft and Sony have pretty stringent rules for all of this stuff. If those guys get together for a group hug, then we'd be all for it

Here's the quote.

that's to do with online which isn't what the TC was asking.. the TC wanted to know if the controllers worked on both systems ie he could take his 360 guitar and play it on his mates PS3.

The controllers will be slightly different for each system, so I don't think they would work cross platform.

I understand, but they said "pretty stringent rules for all of this stuff" in reference to cross-platform. I take that to include controllers, etc. And again, the instruments have the XBox guide button on them, so I highly doubt Sony would let them work on a PS3. Does Sony have something like this too?

the 360 controllers turn on through the use of the guide button...
if you plug them into a PS3, they will not work...
I can't plug in my 360 X-plorer guitar into my Wii and play Super Paper Mario, now can I?
the only reason the X-Plorer guitar works with Windows is because Microsoft made it work...
Sony and Microsoft can't make each controller work with each other, because they can't get along...
it's all Business, my friends, business...
