View Full Version : Rock Band- THE Drinking Game (rules included here)

It's been asked a few times so I decided to post what I feel is THE definitive drinking game.
Please remember to drink responsibily, do not pressure Designated Drivers, never force people to drink when it's obvious they have had enough and have water or other drinks available.
These rules have been refined over many nights of stupidity.
WARNING- Until you get the hang of it
a) print out a set of rules for people
b) ALWAYS have an updated list of songs printed out and in alphabetical order to pass around. Use excel as it's easy to organize and update the list.
now here ya go:
Basic concept
pick a card, look at your printed rules for what the card makes you do, pick song and the lowest percentage at the end drinks.
The Full Rules
Difficulty Rule (instrument specific) Read example for clarification.
a) First time playing an instrument or singing-the difficulty is set to easy.
b) If you do not come in last place then next time you play that instrument you MUST increase the difficulty.
c) If you come in last place you can keep it on that difficulty level the next time
d) If you fail out you can drop the difficulty level.[/I]
write it down if you need to remember and cheaters will have to take a “penalty shot.”
Detailed Instructions
-new players enter by picking up the Bass, next song they must play drums, followed by guitar and vocals last
-audience picks a card and choose song according the card rules found below
-lowest score at the end of a song drinks (for ties- all low scores drink)
-if you get a perfect score: everyone else drinks
-if each band member scores above 97% an encore performance, without rotating, will take place with all rules/penalties suspended. (only one encore)
-players must try every instrument (penalty shot if they choose to skip one and are automatically rotated out of the band lineup and a new player enters)
THE PENALTY SHOT (feel free to replace drinks with your preference)
the peson taking the shot can choose their preferred method of execution
a) The Flatliner –puts hair on your chest
(¾oz Jigger Sambuca, ¾oz Tequila, 3 dashes of tobasco sauce)
b)The Cement Mixer –the consistency is not s/t you’re used to, at least for guys.
(¾oz Bailey’s Irish Cream, ¾oz Lime Juice)
c) 151 – no explanation necessary
d) Beer Bong
Vocal Volume (optional)
The idea is that as the night goes on the singer will eventually be the only voice heard. This is great as the later the night gets, the more confident and worse the singer gets.
a) starts with master vocal track all the way up and mic at half volume
b) after 1 hour of playing the mic level is raised a notch while the master volume is decreased a notch.
c) Every 30 minutes increase the mic volume and decrease the master volume
Song Choice
- When songs are chosen by the audience, a songs can not be chosen more then twice that night to stop the same songs from being repeated. (rule suspended during encores)
- Songs are chosen by the audience with a deck of cards by the rules listed below.
THE CARDS RULES
aka how to choose songs
Ace & King= Vocalist chooses song
Queens and Jacks= Random Song Selection occurs
Four= drummer chooses song
Three= guitarist and/or bassist chooses song
Two= entire band takes a warm up shot before song
Insight: we have noticed a few things about our rules. Letting the audience choose a song really gets the audience excited and gets people who don't want to play involved. Down side is, when they pick songs that the singer doesn't know it kills the fun. Feel out the night and maybe try to balance it better. Audience should offer 2-3 choices and not try to screw over the singer. After all if the singer is not having fun it kind of saps the energy from the room.
To get risqué, make other cards 5-? some kind of clothing removal or kissing rule.

By the way. If anyone has any suggestions on how to tweak this feel free to post suggestions. I will try them out and the best will be edited into the rules so that we can have THE definitive best frickin drinking game whose rules are universally known within the rockband community. I've been playing around with an idea to reward the vocalist if he/she can say or do something so funny that the band nearly fails from laughter but I still haven't come up with the best way to implement it smoothly.
So post, rules that worked best for you. Maybe even a funny mistake or story of what things happen when you mix drinking and rock band.

Sounds fun, but waaayyyy too complicated. I could only imagine trying to explain this to a room full of drunk people. I'll just drink my beers and play as usual.

Our RB drinking game.
1. Pick a song
2. Claim your %
3. If you score lower than your claimed %, you drink.
4. If you sandbag (i.e. You said "I"ll get 85%" and you get 91%) you drink.
Easy, peasy.

What about song-specific drinking consequences?
Like when certain songs come up on a random.
If GGaHT comes up - 2 shots for lead guitar BEFORE you play the song
If RttH comes up - 2 shots for the drummer BEFORE you play the song

2 shots for the lead singer if "I get by" comes up... mid song

too many rules man, keep it simple. I've yet to find a version that is as simple as ours with enough opportunities to drink, but you're not hammering shots nonstop.
We don't play "by the drink" because we're still drinking beer anyway.
2 songs per instrument then you switch. rotation is guitar to bass, bass to drums, drums to vocals.
Lowest % takes a shot and plays next song on the next lower difficulty (if possible)
If you fail out during a song you take a shot (one shot max per song).
Highest % has to play next song on the next highest difficulty (if possible)
Singer picks songs
oh and refusing to do vocals gets you a double shot and you can't play again till you do vocals.
Unless you're playing with an all expert band where everyone can FC everything, everyone will pretty much take 2-3 shots over the course of a rotation (8 songs). After a few shots and a few rips nobody will be fc'ing anything on expert.

to be honest, i don't think its too many rules and doesn't seem to difficult to play once you get the hang of it...looks like a good drinking game

2 shots for the lead singer if "I get by" comes up... mid song
Singer drinks during every percussion break!
and here comes Don't Fear the Reaper!
And here's another idea - you know the descriptions you get under your percentage? Is there a list of them somewhere, there should be different drinking parameters based on some of those.
Examples:
if one person gets Flawless for a song, all 3 other band members drink
Band Savior gets like a "get out of drink free" card

way to complicated for a drinking game, there is some other good games listed here, but drinking games can't be complicated, for a reason lol

How about a forums drinking game ...
Make a post requesting rap or country dlc. You drink for every "It's not Rap/Country Band!" post that follows.
*Play at your own risk - gocino is not responsible for any alcohol poisoning

Let me defend my complexity for a moment.
Yes, it seems rather intimidating at first. But it really is just a version of the "simple" game that others mention. The basic premise is, you switch instruments in a certain order and lowest score drinks. That's it!
The reason behind making all these "extra" rules is for parties that involve more than 4-8 people. We noticed that you want to give everyone a chance to get involved. There inevitably will be people that are too shy to play and they enjoyed drawing cards, picking songs and watching people fail. In fact, every time we removed the cards we lost peoples attention who wouldn't play.
As for vocalist always choosing the songs, that rule is good to an extent but they could always choose songs they excel in. We had to devise a way where everyone gets a chance to choose their favorite song on an instrument.
The random track rule and taking the choice of song out of the vocalist hands made it really nerve racking to pull a card.
The game is the ultimate fusion between drinking card games and the "simple" switch and shoot method mentioned earlier.
As for all the penalty shot drinks, that is just a personal preference. We get lazy and toss that out and just do shots or just chug a beer most of the times. But for all out rock band parties, the special penalty shots adds a sense of dread.
Anyway, that's my defense. Try it a few times with friends and I garauntee that by the end of the night you will have the rules down.
Pick a card.
Look to see what that card represents.
Play song.
Drink.
Switch Instruments.
Repeat.
p.s. As for my drinking problem; I know an addiction when I have one and trust me, my desire for alcohol does not compare with my addiction to play rock band, halo or gta. Don't hate just because when I create a drinking game, I do it right and put in thought.

I wish people would post stuff like this more often instead of the usual DLC complaint/praise threads. It would make the forums worthwhile to read.

Rules we use:
(Since we're all experienced rock band players)
Play on easy or medium = Drink
get below 90% = drink
get lowest % = drink (does not stack with <90)
if someone gets 100%, everyone else drinks
if you fail during the song you drink, (up to 3 times)
we might put limits, like max 3 drinks per song.
if the entire band fails, everyone drinks! Its a "team" game!

Got to admit, of all the rules I like the if you get 100% everyone else has to drink idea. I'm going to try it and it just may have to be an addition to the already complex rules.
love that it's Friday b/c I can now test this out very very very soon.

If there's a down part in the song where you have nothing to play, you drink then too...

I updated the rules, as someones suggestion that a perfect 100% means everyone else drinks worked great! We modified it a bit though by stating everyone in the Room, not just playing, must drink.
I also streamlined the rules a bit so they are a little more straight forward. I figure with the weekend coming up it's time for another round. Hope you guys like the game.

question to anyone/evryone who is saying it's too complicated ordrunk friend will never learn it, by the way teach them before they get drunk.
Haven't you ever played card drinking games in college? Circle of death, kings, a**hole etc? Ya, I get it that you can just drink a beer and play but this is a way that gets everyone into it and adds a lil spice to just another night of sipping beer and playing video games.
I'm just curious as to whether the people who put down this complicated game ever playing drinking card games and if so then what's the difference?
Hell you want really difficult, try learning how to play eucher drunk. I still never got that right.

Razer, I understand that this might work with your friends, and good for you, but I've had several cases where people just don't want to listen to rules and stuff.
Hell, one time I had trouble explaining to newcomers how to play DDR (ooooh, when an arrow comes to the top of the screen, you must press it, now that's complicated!) just because drunk people would interrupt and make stupid yet funny comments, destroying everyone's attention.
The thing that redeems the complicated rules, however, is that not everyone has to know the rules; if you have, say, 2 people in the room who do, they can be the ones enforcing it... that's bound to get others to understand the rules when they start wondering why they have to drink :D

That IS an excellent idea... we should try and make a list of these comments... off the top of my head...
Flawless
Band Savior
Most Energy
Most Gutsy
Longest Streak
Serious Skills
Solo Legend
Any others??

I don't get it. Is the drinking supposed to be a punishment of some kind?
Here's my version:

I've found that this is easiest. If you get less than 100%, you drink. If you get 100%, you drink. If you aren't playing, you drink. The whole time just rotating people. ;)
Then again, I'm the type of guy that will drink even if we win or while during Flippy Cup or whatever game I play.
BTW, if you want a real drinking game; play Drunken Halo. You die, you drink during the respawn. Same concept could be applied to any shooting game. It gets quite rough after the first few games and is recommended with beer only, although I've had a friend try it with tequila shots.

It doesn't look like anyone has replied to this since May but I went on a Google search for a Rock Band drinking game and this one is my favorite. I'm having a Rock Band party tonight and my friends are not the kind that want to sit around and just drink, they need a reason. Their drinking needs to be justified. We're also not drinking beer. It's jello shots mostly (Green, Red, Yellow, Blue, and Orange....get it?), and mostly hard stuff.
This game is perfect, especially since I anticipate about 15 people in attendance all of whom will want to play at some point. I also like that it forces everyone to play all the different instruments since I have several friends who have their favorite instrument and would stay on that instrument throughout the night if they vtheir choice.
I'm definitely going to incorporate the deck of cards for choosing the song, the player gets 100% = everyone else has to drink, and the rotation schedule.
Don't listen to any of the criticism you got from this game because I'm really excited about it and I can't wait to play it tonight. Thanks for posting it.

Majority of the people went here: http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97653&highlight=Drinking+Game
And my explanation of the game, and extra rules:
+++The group selects a "Leader", "President", or "King of Rock". He will be the leader of this group and thus "safe" from any more drinking. Think of this role more as the manager of the band. He gets to tell them what to do, and sits back and watches.
+++The King will select his first victim: Singer. By selecting the singer, they will take a shot, select the song to play, and the members who will play. He may also select himself to sing, but he will take 2 shots (one for being the singer, second for being selfish)
+++The King selects who will play what instrument.
+++After the song is over, whoever scores the highest (percentage) will become the next King. If there is a tie, whoever scores the higher note streak (in accordance to their instrument) will win. [I say this because if Vocals were to tie the Drummer, it could be a 50 phrase streak to a 214 Note Streak, Vocals did better]
+++Whoever scores the worst will remain in the band, taking a shot for amount of times they remain in the band [1 for first, 3 for third, 15 for fifteenth time, etc]
+++Process starts all with new King, meaning the original will be replaced and added to the roster of Victims.
My Thoughts to add
+++Depending of the difficulty people select, 1 shot for going hard. 2 shots for going Medium. 3 shots for going Easy. [This way people can't simply pick Easy just to get high streaks, percents, and stay safe from drinking.]
+++Any time a person fails out, they will have to do a shot. 2 times means 2 shots. Fail out and this person is desinated to stay in the band, and must take 5 shots.
In reply with above mentioned rule, whoever saves this person will have a "bonus" shot for being the hero. The most times you save people, more bonus shots you get. With a bonus shot, you get to select whoever you want to randomly do a shot, another fun factor: Whenever you want them to. This means in the middle of a long streak, crazy solo, or just for fact the pissed you off you can order them to drink up and they will do so. Failure to results with 5 shots.
+++If either: A) Batteries die, B) Hit the X button/PS Button, C) become disconnected from the game, D) Pause the game in general, You must do 3 shots. No excuses allowed, even if your dad catches you drinking his stash.
Expendable rule: whoever is King can designate the number of shots. Meaning, he chooses X amount for each already mentioned. Must remain under 10 [for health reasons]
Fun Shots:
+++During the loading screen, whenever you see "No Fail Mode", everybody must take 3 shots
+++Read anything from RB1, take 1 shot for respect of nostalgia purposes [disregard if you didn't export]
+++The louder the better means everybody sings. For every phrase somebody doesn't sing, thats one shot. If you don't know the words, better look up and read them. King decides who is/isn't singing.

My rock band drinking game:
1. Start Rock Band.
2. Drink.
3. Repeat 2.
bbear523
01-16-2010, 09:55 PM
This is based on the start of this thread but works a little better for at least my crowd.
Materials Needed:
1. Booze of Choice
2. Deck of Cards
3. Printed Rules – Copies for all to see at will.
4. Printed Song list – At least a couple.
Basic Concept:
The goal of this game is to have a good time and to be smart about it. Don’t pressure anyone to drink. If they don’t want to, everyone else can and after all, you are together acting a little silly being in a Rock & Roll band so everyone will still have fun, even the non-drinkers or designated drivers.
Rules/Instructions:
1. Form groups of 2 – 3 Band Mates. These are the bands.
2. Give your band a name.
3. Pick order of play for the first round by playing High Card where each team picks ONE card.
4. Collect and Shuffle cards.
5. The teams not actively playing RB will be the Audience.
6. To start and after each Band performs, the Audience picks ONE card.
a. Ace or Face – Drummer Drinks
b. 10 – 7 – Guitar Drinks
c. 6 – 3 – Vocal Drinks
d. 2 – Whole Band Drinks
e. RED card – Audience picks song.
f. Black card – Band picks song.
7. Round Results – After each round, the following happens:
a. Lowest Points – Loosing Band Drinks – Leaves Difficulty at the same level for next round.
b. All other bands have to go UP one Difficulty level.
c. Highest Points – Winning Band makes a drinking rule.
8. Perfect Scores – Audience Drinks
9. Encore – EVERYONE DRINKS
10. Band members must change instrument after each round.
11. Overall winning Band is crowned BEST BAND. Rewards are the House’s choice.
Enjoy!
