The reason I made this thread is because I'm starting a new job in a week's time, it's gona be great, very much orientated towards what I studied for. I'm very excited about it. :D
The position is: Production Planner/buyer for a large manufacturing company.
So, what kind of work do you do and/or what would be your ideal job?
Note: You don't need to name companies if you don't want to.

Industry: Retail (Charity Store)
Job Title: Shop Assistant (with plenty of acting deputy/manager time)
Do I like my job: Not in the slightest, I'm sick of my two bosses treating me like ****, and deliberately going behind my back on crap, and then wondering why I'm getting pissed off with them.
What Would I Like To Do: Move from my store and move up to a Deputy Manager position in another small store.

I wouldn't say I *love* my job, but it does have some valuable perks:
* I don't have any oversight to push me around or get in my way
* I can solve problems in any manner I see fit
* I can do whatever I want during dead/free time (including browse these forums ;) )
* I am respected and valued by everyone in the organization
So even though I don't do the most glamorous work, and don't get paid as well as I should, the gig has some pretty valuable intangibles.

I've been all over for jobs. I worked at a Pizzeria. Excuse my french, they are all ****ing dickheads. The owner is straight out Italian, so like, he gets mad, really easy. He yells at me for not washing freaking dishes fast enough. Apparently he doesn't like the Code for all restaurant businesses, and that is clean plates. Like, all he does is dip them in the water, then put them out to dry, totally ignoring the fact that it has like, sauce and ketchup all over the plate. And he yells at me for noticing it. And I'm still in school, and I have to get up at 5:10 every day. He still wants me to stay there till 11:30. I'm usually in bed by like, 10:30. I quit after 2 days.

Right now I'm doing Flash development/programming. It's okay because I totally get to set my schedule around shcool, but it's not what I want to do for th rest of my life.
I'm hoping to do texture art or environmental design in the game industry. I have about 9 months before I graduate, though.

I work for a computer outsourcing company (we manage servers, mainframes, etc for other companies). I work at the helpdesk, its basically a glorified receptionist, 80% of the calls get passed on to other people, all I can do is unlock accounts and reset passwords. LOL. 90% of my time is spent browsing the internet, watching DVDs on my computer or watching TV for 12 hours at night.

That's great guys!! keep those posts coming!! it's interesting to see the different outlooks people have on their jobs wether they be good or bad, believe me I have had to deal with a few BS jobs myself. As long as you keep your goals in focus, you'll get there. :)

I work the graveyard shift at a hospital as a receptonist in the family birthing center. I pretty much just check in patients...do all the insurance billing..put in doctors orders/meds and bed charges and lots and lots of paper work. It is slow about 70% of the time and i am alone all night at my desk so i pretty much can do what i want during down time. Usually i am surfing the web..listening to music or talking on the phone. So yeah i can't complain my job is pretty cush great benefits and the pay is nice too.

I run a laser that cuts sheets of steel or aluminum...
Some stuff that gets cut is really cool signage, lettering and such...
The other part of the shop cuts acrylic signs and such...
At times it's good, but sometimes a sheet takes upwards of 3 hours to cut and I have to basically stand around, but i can drive the forklift for fun too.
It's a really small place and my bosses are pretty cool, plus it beats the hell outta retail...

Is your job simply a means to an end? (money) or do you incorporate your dreams, passions, aspirations into what you do? Hopefully the latter.
Consider doing what you love first and foremost, and know there is a path to get there. If you need money for expenses, get a job that allows you get where you need to go doing what you want. This may require a hefty amount of work and personal time on the front end, but once you establish yourself, you garner a reputation and work will come your way.
Don't be a money addict! You can sustain on less than you think.
I had no clue I'd be doing what I am doing now, but it is probably the closest thing to what I imagined I would be doing when I initially set out to find work during/after I went to college.
Remember, this is your life, and you are in control of it. If you're not enjoying life, it is your own damn fault.
Boredom is the opposite of Creativity.

Well, I'm like, six hours into my new job, and so far it's cool. I'm doing tech support for a semi-large multimedia peripherals company. They make optical drives (internal and external), external hard drives, external enclosures, power supplies, modding accessories, fans, video cards, etc.
So far, there's not much for me to do. The training peoples haven't been up to my office yet, and I'm using a co-worker's machine login. So... I'll probably update this in a week or so. or something.

**** yeah! I love my job. I quit my old slave driving job and started a new one working at a salt water fish aquarium store. My boss is cool, co-workers are cool, only I dont get to surf the intrawebs and have to do actual work when compared to my last job. But its pretty sweet. If I enjoyed my job any more Id be doing porn. lesbian porn.

I'm a branch capture specialist for a corporate federal credit union. What the hell is that, do you ask? Well, a lot of institutions have gone away from taking the checks to a processing center, and instead have started using scanners to create a document image of a check and send that through the intarweb to a server where a CFCU will process them.
I build the computer that goes to the credit union and then provide support to the people who train the credit union, the people at the credit union who use the machine, and their highly-annoying CEO/CFO/COO's who are pretty sure that their 2-branch credit union is the most important credit union in the world and I should ignore the bigger credit unions to deal with them.
I like my job, though. What's really great is that no one really understands what I do.
I went to college to be a software translator. I have a BS in Japanese, but I haven't used it in like three years. That's what I'd like to be doing, I think.

Industry: Engineering
Title: Intern (I'm a senior, atm) currently in Manufacturing, previously in System Test
Do I like My Job: Yes. I love engineering troubleshooting, and basically the other engineers give me jobs that they're either too busy to do (verifying Ultrasonic Height Checkers) or can't justify spending time on (putting 2 stickers on each of 500 devices). Lots of experience, plenty interesting, and I make a pretty good wage considering I'm still in school.
What would I like to do: The same. Probably HW/SW design or chip-level work.
What did I used to do: Paperboy (sucked: had to wake up at 6AM every weekend)
Lifeguard (sucked: got paid minimum wage, no way to get a raise, no respect)
Camp Counselor (fun, but had little access to the outside world for weeks at a time)
*****-work for a Country Club (fun when I got to make Champagne-glass pyramids  , sucked when I only worked 2 hours in a week)
