Hello, Im new to the Rockband world.. had played Guitar Hero,Guitar Hero II, and Guitar Hero III on occasions to have a good time.

Im pretty solid on the Medium level, so I bounce between Medium and Hard.. I noticed the strummer feels alot different compared to my Guitar Hero controller for the PS2.

I am now playing Rock Band on the Xbox 360 using the Rock Band Guitar, and cannot nail the fast flurry of notes or the chords one after another. I tried strumming up and down and that is to fast, I try to slow down and then Im not hitting all of them. I tried just strumming down and I still can't hit them all because the strummer isn't up to par.. maybe It's just me but a little annoying when I know I can handle the chart but the guitar cant keep up

The strummer on the Rock Band guitar is very different from the Guitar Hero one -- it uses a completely different type of switch (a magnetic sensor instead of a keyboard-type switch). There's no tactile feedback or audible click to let you know when you've pressed the strummer far enough to register a note. This can be very frustrating and make it difficult to play fast sequences.

There are several alternatives if you want to fix this. The one that I've made is reviewed here: http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32096
Full disclosure: I do sell these and so have a vested interest, but my main interest is helping people enjoy the game as much as we do.

Thanks, I just bought the game last week so I really wouldn't want to void the warranty just to fix the guitar.

Very frustrating though when you spend $170 on something and can't fully enjoy it due to a guitar with a below average strum mechanism. I don't know how anyone 5 Stars anything on the Hard/Expert level with this thing..

[RANT MODE ON]
I totally understand. I think the Rock Band guitar was designed well, but at some point somebody in the accounting department pushed to reduce the costs and so they cut some corners, especially in the strummer. In the end, they would have been better off putting $5 more into the parts on the guitar instead of having to spend all the money, time and effort to ship out replacement guitars, not to mention having a bunch of upset customers. (This is all pure speculation on my part).

It's truly a great game, and for those who spend many hours playing, the $170 is a small investment when you factor in the how many hours of enjoyment you can get from it. If they'd increased the price a couple more dollars and improved the strummer it would have drastically reduced people's frustration. At least with our Strum Fix (http://www.bytearts.com/strummer) (and other mods that are available), you can get the guitar to work properly.

[RANT OFF]

There, I feel better now...

seems like any company nowadays is looking to cut corners and screw the consumer, but charge top dollar anyways.

I like the idea of your strum fix all but cutting the wires; guess I'll have to wait for a better solution

Thanks

FYI, with some versions of the guitar it is possible to install the Strum Fix without cutting any wires. Basically, it depends on whether or not the wires to the strummer are soldered directly into the guitar "motherboard", or are attached with a removable connector. So far, it looks like this only works with the Xbox360 "gen 1" to "gen 3" guitars. All the others seem to have hard-wired connections. We'll have "no-cut" mod kits ready next week.
