I wasn't so much laughing as I was mouth on the floor shocked. I was like, "Wait...that's...that's in the song? Does that mean...oh...oh God"

I experienced a similar thing the first time I played The Collector from the NIN pack and my buddy on vocals started screaming "I am a big boy and I will SWALLOW IT ALL!! SWALLOW IT ALL!! SWALLOW IT ALL!!"

Maybe I'm immature :D

On a similar note, this part of "Highway Star" makes me smile, laugh, groan, or roll my eyes depending on my mood...

"I love her. I need her. I SEED her."

I've always liked that song and never knew those were the lyrics or at least never really thought about them. We cracked up the first time it came up and our singer sang it. Extra layer of funny for our band because our singer is uhhh, not into girls.

"comin' on you" is not a curse word so obviously it is not offensive, jeez!

Well she DOES have a moving mouth, body control, and everything.

The lyrics for that song are really dirty when you think about them.

The lyrics are pretty funny, it's always fun to shout, especially if you've been singing at a low volume for the rest of the song before it... "mumble mumble.. mumble...I'M COMING ON YOU!!!!!...."

So, you have a problem with that lyric. What about lyrics from the other Judas Priest songs?

"Pain And Pleasure": "You bring me pain, and you give me pleasure"
"(Take These) Chains": "Reach out to me as if from the grave. I try to run, but I'm tied to you like a slave"

I think that these are up there on the "awkward"/"I can't believe I just sang that" scale.

This thread raises (no pun intended) the question: what is the other thing coming?

When you consider Rob Halford is ***, those lyrics take on a new level of dirty creepyness. Not that there's anything wrong with that....;)

I always laugh when I attempt to sing I think I'm Paranoid... and I usually change up a few lyrics in some songs when I'm singing to make fun of other band members...

I however collapsed while singing Wonderwall because while singing it my drummer was singing along with me and watching the lyrics... he forgot to start drumming, I know that's not the reason for this post but we failed the song because the drummer went out early, and then I was laughing too hard to keep singing so eventually the 2 of us failed again...

But the ultimate irony is that the songs are gender neutral. He could be singing to a guy or a girl. Also, in one of the songs, he says something like, "I suffer but I love her". So clearly, something's up. :)

Oh seriously, why do people always have to bring that up? It was accepted by the metal community back then, why not now?
None of Priest's songs are affected by this fact, not even his solo songs are.

Actually, it was unknown in the metal community back then. So much so, that he influenced metal style for a decade. Homophobic people everywhere were dressing in S&M gear...it was hysterical. Rob even jokes about it quite often now (like on the recent VH-1 Metal documentary).

It does not "affect" the songs at all, but it does give another level to them is all. No bashing going on here, just conversation.:D

To be honest, there were many people here in the U.S. at the time who weren't sure or not. You can see the "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" music video on the newborn MTV, and it makes you wonder. It is part of the legacy that is Judas Priest. They have a song like "Metal Gods", which gets people pumped up, then a song (and album) called "Hell Bent For Leather" which gets people pumped, but upon a second listen, thinking about what it means.

That is the problem with rock music, people always look for the double meaning in the lyrics.

In many rock songs, it is all about sex (no matter how you like it), drugs, and rock and roll. Actually devil worship is another big theme. They have always been about shock value, what would piss off our parents. Heck, why do you think some of the most popular rap songs are about cop killing.

I grew up with 80's metal, which was good enough for my parents to call trash. Now I am a father, what will they come up with to piss me off? They have to go more extreme now we have the likes of Grand Theft Auto (Nothing against the game, I will be getting it tomorrow), but it kind of kills even the most extreme rap for glorifying criminal activity.

Awesome post!
I am extremely guilty of finding meanings in songs but in a different way. I don’t do it to find something to LOATHE about the band, I just do it because I have always been an methodical person. For instance, Nirvana released a song called “Rape Me” and it caused immense controversy. However, it was bittersweet because the point that Kurt Cobain was getting across was the offender was to become the victim when he became incarcerated. “Go ahead and violate me because you are going to get it back.”
Despite trying to rationalize the bands stance on that song, they had to modify the title to “Waif Me” before some stores would put the album on the shelves.
I used to be in management at our local Hastings to support myself through college and I cannot tell you how many times the church going folks would come in and tell me that they wanted R rated movies, books and music off of the shelves because it was provoking “unchristlike behavior“ in today’s youth. They did get their way on one aspect though. Our particular store was prohibited from carrying adult films and magazines. But that’s another story.

I'm trying to fit it all inside.
I'm trying to open my mouth wide.
I'm trying not to choke,
and swallow it all!
Swallow it all!
Swallow it all!
Swallow it all!

Every single time I hear my dad sing that when we're playing 'The Collector', I can't concentrate at all. Really awkward.

That Collector line is just so wrong. I don't have any of the songs mentioned so far, so I didn't know about any of this.

me and my friends randomly failed on our first try of march of the pigs 'cause
A) i wasn;t on drums
B) our singer couldn't hold it together and just about died laughing at "...shove it up inside
surprise..." even though they;re on separate lines.

Not necessarily. Lpunderground19's post is borderline, hilarious.
Maybe.

You could always delete it and make a quote, if it came down to it.
Or maybe you have ESP and can see lawls ahead of time.

I can't believe the subject of awkward lyrics has come up and no one has mentioned Moonage Daydream.

"The church of man love is such a holy place to be."

It caught me quite off guard.

Well but see...from what I've heard that song actually is about an "alternate lifestyle" (won't let me use the g word!) relationship. THESE lyrics are unintentionally funny!

And really unless it's Guy Love (http://youtube.com/watch?v=lL4L4Uv5rf0), it's just not intentionally funny either.

Look at the album it is on. "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars" is the ultimate glam rock album. Also, look at the lyrics of other songs from that album. In "Ziggy Stardust" it says that he had "God given ass" and was "well hung with a snow white tan".

I think it is about Bowie's "relationship" with Iggy Pop, but I could be wrong. There are many things about Bowie's songs that are different, but they still rock and should be in the game.
