will the rock band guitar work with guitar hero 3 or not?

Ok i have seen that the guitar hero 3 guitar will work with rock band, but since i dont feel like paying for another guitar for guitar hero 3, will the rock band guitar work with it?

Can I use my Rock Band controller with GH2 360? Yes. It is not known whether the additional fret buttons will work here.

Can I use my Rock Band controller with GH3? Probably. Harmonix wants to support open standards and make everything compatible. Activision would have little incentive to block the Rock Band controller, if it's even possible, since support will move more copies of GH3.

Can I use my GH3 controller with Rock Band? Doesn't look good. Activision has made statements that don't sound too promising in this regard. They say they regard their hardware as a 'competitive advantage'. They deride Harmonix for getting a free ride by 'piggybacking' support for the GH2 Explorer controllers. There are open standard for guitar controllers on the 360, but if Activision deviates from those standards, there's probably nothing Harmonix can do about it. They can't exactly issue a GH3 patch to support the Rock Band controller.

that's actually a valid question. i haven't read anywhere stating that i can use Rock Band controllers with Guitar Hero 3. At least not for the PS3. Maybe because it's a no-brainer that the PS3 accessories will all play nice with other games. I know that's not the case for owners of the 360. If they're not compatible, I won't be purchasing Guitar Hero 3. At least not for PS3. I still have my stuff from my PS2.
