I couldnt find my original thread, so I created a new one. I've had a couple smokes here and there, but overall I've "quit". Having 1 smoke didnt kill me, I still have not went out and bought a pack, just bummed one from my roommate when i got home from work due to it stressing me out horribly. I think 5 cigs in 6 days is not that bad, no?

Other than that, i hate work. Freaking newbs on shift with me from now on, and I'm still technically a newb :(

:mad:Yes it's bad!!.... well I guess I can't blame you it is a hard habit to kick.... still, try to stay away from people who smoke if you can. Also try to focus on the most important reason why you want to quit(what is it btw?) a stick to it, do not falter. ;)

Well i'm also quitting with no help, not to mention its still hard considering my roommate smokes, so 5 smokes is not bad. I'm not craving them to the point i'm going to go out and buy a pack.

Don't mean to rag on you, but a smoke is a smoke. Regardless if it was 5 or 500. If you're gonna quit, you gotta stick to it. YOU CAN DOOO IT!

And FYI, here is the link to your original thread. Quitting Smoking (http://community.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=4411)

I'd have to agree. I smoked for only 4 years, but it's always a b*tch to get out of the habit no matter how long. Even worse if longer.

But if you're gonna quit, you have to break away clean. It's inevitable that you'll eventually pick it up more and more again.

I've had several friends that would "only have 1 a day" or "I only smoke when I drink", those same people all became regular smokers back to a pack a day.

As I said, I smoked for 4 years. I wanted to quit just because I was so sick of it, the bad taste, everyone saying how you stink (you always do, but not everyone tells you). Burning myself by ashes, standing outside in cold weather just to kill myself more (have a cig), driving with my window cracked open when it's raininng so I can let the damn smoke out, etc.

I was just so sick of it, I finish off a pack just before I went to bed, woke up, and never looked back. Just chew a lot of gum the first month, after that you should be outta the habit.

uh 1 cig = still smoking, not quitting. Quitting is stopping smoking...not smiking, not one.

You need to quit completely. I've been smoking for twenty years, and I've been in the exact same position you are more times than I can count. You start bumming one here and one there, and the next thing you know you're buying a pack "that will last you a month". Doesn't work. In no time you will be smoking fullbore again. Quit while you can, it only gets harder the longer you keep doing it.

Wow thanks for the bashing. Honestly though, I still think I'm doing fine. Just because I've had a few cigs here and there doesnt mean my efforts have been totally wasted. I think its damn good considering i've gone from 25/day to 1 a day. I know I'm still doing good, i dont need people to tell me that. Keep your negativity away from this thread.

Furthermore, its about impossible for me to buy a pack anyway, I lost my drivers license and I still look too young to buy them without the ID, so....kind of a moot point :P

I've never really smoked cigarettes so I don't really have any advice or anything. Certainly smoking about 1 a day on average is much better than let's say smoking a pack a day or something, for example. It's good to know that you can certainly lower the amount and gain some control over the addiction.

You have to start somewhere. If you can do it slow and steady it would be better than trying to go completely cold turkey and have the need for it hit you so bad that you pick that habit back up again. Keep us updated, I'm sure most of us are pulling for you. :D

A little edgy are we?

Any ideas on how to get someone else to quit?

Daesania
09-20-2007, 05:20 PM
dont force them. People kept trying to force me and coerce me into quitting, and thats the worst thing for a smoker. That's what pushes them away and sets them up for failure. your best bet is to sit down with the smoker and tell them why it concerns you about their smoking habits, dont attack them, just tell them how you feel.

QFT. Nagging a smoker about quitting not only works, it pisses us off. Never anger a smoker that's trying to quit, they're edgy enough already. :D

Since it was after my post, I'm guessing the "bashing" referred to me. I wasn't bashing you, just offering advice. I'm the only one of my friends that still smokes, and not a single one of the ones that quit succeeded with the "cutting down" method. It's certainly never worked for me. Not trying to be negative, just realistic...in my experience it's all or nothing, or you just end up going back to it.

Good luck.

You are trying your best & that is the important thing. If you want to stop then you are on the road to stopping. But as someone mentioned before you cannot have a puff here & there. Just give it up completly - maybe chew more gum & stuff. You can do it.

free yourself from smoking

mmm... that camel looks delicious. I smoke camel ultra lights. I've started to quit a couple of times. I think you have to want to quit, and when you want to quit, you just stop smoking.

This is true IB ;) I told ya just tell me when to meet you in KC. LOL All sorts of hotness in one room! :)

Still smoke free except 1 a day. you haters can leave me alone. its been a week at 1 a day, still no urge to go buy a pack, so I dont care if you say 1 is just as bad as 20 and that i'll start smoking again. You guys dont know me, and dont categorize me with your friends, just because your friends picked it back up does not mean I will.

<--still considers herself as having quit smoking, against what you haters say.

Everyone in this thread apparently. Whatever. doesnt matter. I've still quit in my opinion. I havent had even 1 at all today, still no urge, maybe i'll have ONE when i get home from work though, its always nice to get home from a stressful night at work with a shot and a cig :) Yeah but these haters will assume i'm gonna go buy a pack because of that ONE :P

Well I totally consider you as quit. Because the reality is if I have one pill a week (probably the equivalent to one cig a day in my opinion) I'm not a drughead.

The reality is it's not always about complete purge. It's a control thing. A complete purge is really hypocritical.

Well thanks Xz. I dont crave cigs.. the 1 cig i've had every day is just kinda a thing with my roommate, he's just waking up when i get home from work, so he's having his cig and coffee, i have a cig and a shot. Not really that I want the cig, just more of a bonding thing we have goin on.

Yeah that's cool. That's not an addiction. It's just hangin' out.
