What are your opinions on Country music? If you like it explain how you got into it or why you like it. If it is not your taste explain why (please, no hillbilly comments).
I got into (well, tolerant; I enjoy some songs) it because my dad always listens to it. Sometimes I really enjoy some songs. My only beef is that the males sound alike, just like the females, sound the same. Ah... The ignorance of youth. My favorite is prolly Brad Paisley.

I actually don't find country as bad as people make it out to be. My mom likes country so I kind of had to "put up with it" when I was younger. Nowadays, it's not that bad. :)

Don't hate country music but I'm not really a fan or anything. I like Wilco, who are supposedly "alt-country", if that counts. I like Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" a lot. Don't think I've really been exposed to much real country though, just the more rockish stuff on the radio.

I don't mind it most times, but in all the cases when I listened to country music... it wasn't because of my own choosing. xD
The only time I *really* had a loong time listening to country was when playing GTA: San Andreas. I'd be driving so much, I always seemed to have the radio station tuned to the country station. Those songs would play over and over again to the point when I finally snapped and started singing along to some of them. Those catchy little lines... I'd suddenly chime in with the chorus "mississippi woman... louisiana maAAN!" "two steps forward.. three steps back.."
I think the main reason why I don't like listening to country music is for all the really slooow songs.. Snoozers. :|

Oh, the Eagles are country? I like them too. :o So, there are different types of country music too?

I was raised on a lot of country music -- but that was the "good old days," Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, ..... In more recent times I love KD Lang and Lyle Lovett. Even like some Rascal Flatts. In the 70's Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson put out some great stuff. And I've long been a fan of country rock -- the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Poco, Flying Burrito Brothers, and even some Eagles. Even earlier than that -- rockabilly, like really early Elvis, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and so on.
Most of the time I find country too damn sappy, and the instrumentation too predictable, altho' there are a lot of great pickers in country. My biggest problem is usually with country vocals -- too twangy and nasal, and overly emotive for my tastes. And of course the lame lyrics -- She's acting single and I'm drinking doubles, If today was a fish I'd throw it back, and so forth.
And of course too much time in Texas gives me a knee jerk reaction -- kind of a post traumatic stress syndrome flashback. I start seeing old ladies with big blue hair behind the wheel of Cadillac El Dorados.... And three churches to a block....

I never could get in to country. I guess I can tolerate it if I have to, but I would never choose to listen to country.
It never appealed. I guess the lyrics are so depressing and slow it lost me. But that is just me. I know there are some really good country musicians out there and they are busting their butt and doing a good job.
I do like the Eagles however, and some of Johnny Cash. So dont know if that is contradictory to my statements or not...

I like country music as long as the song doesn't whine too much.:) One of my favorites is Miranda Lambert's "Kerosene". http://http://www.cmt.com/videos/miranda-lambert/62278/kerosene.jhtml
I love alot of the classic country songs too.

I like some country, but a lot of it is too snoozy for me, or too sappy, or too twangy, for my tastes. If you want to call the Eagles and Johnny Cash country, then I like them a lot -- especially Cash. Miranda Lambert I guess is country-ish. Trisha Yearwood has some great stuff, and Mandy Barnett has a powerful voice (she was the betamax to Leann Rimes' VHS in the battle to be the next big young country star - better quality, but not as popular). Lucinda Williams has some good songs, but a lot of her stuff is kinda snoozy for me. I like Sara Evans a bit, and though I think the Dixie Chicks should keep their junior high political commentary to themselves, I think they have some great music.
It's like any genre of music -- some of it is great, a lot of it is mediocre, and some of it is crap. And if it fits your tastes, listen to it. :)

Yeah, Lucinda is one of those ones who kind of sits on the boundary of some genres, but I guess you could consider her country somewhat. There is a lot of snooze stuff there I agree, but Car Wheels on a Gravel Road is an all-time classic album. No snoozers there at all.
