I'm just going to start listing One Hit Wonders here that I think would be fun in Rockband, feel free to add on. . .

I realize some of these bands may have had a second hit song, but unless you can make a three pack out of the bands "best of". Please don't waste the time to make the comment, especially if the song you are listing was never ever a hit and just a personal favorite.

The term One Hit Wonder signifies it as a chart-topping hit. I'll give you two examples, The J.Giels Band and Asia. They each had two hits but for J Geils their signature song was Centerfold and for Asia it was Heat of the Moment. I'm adding both of these songs to the list simply because I don't think those that are interested in them would want to sit around and hope the band charts a third hit. Fair enough :-)

867-5309 (Jenny) - Tommy Tutone
All Right Now - Free
Amie - Pure Prairie League
Camoflauge - Stan Ridgway
Centerfold - J.Giels Band
Heat Of The Moment - Asia
Heaven Is A Halfpipe - OPM
I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) - The Proclaimers
Jessie's Girl - Rick Springfield
Right Now - SR-71
Stuck In The Middle With You - Stealer's Wheel
That Thing You Do - The Wonders

I'll think of more later. . . I just looked at the clock and I gotta go!
Have fun in the meantime!!!

Hmmm. . . I hadn't left yet. . . But please read the instruction! Neil Young is hardly a one hit wonder with albums and hits a plenty probably dating back to the year of your father's birth.
I'll cut you some slack though seeing that was your first post.

Loverboy had a handful of forgettable songs in the 80's. I'm cool with forgetting the rest. BUUUUTTT. . . How can you mention Golden Earring and forget Twilight Zone. I guess like me forgetting to mention J. Giels Freezeframe. Oh well, now they've both been mentioned. Good picks by the way!

Heaven Is A Halfpipe - OPM

Good song. Pretty good band.

I vote for:
One Headlight - The Wallflowers

Spin Doctors - Two Princes (you could 3-pack it with Jimmy Olsen's Blues and Little Miss Can't Be Wrong, since those were hits but everyone just remembers Two Princes)
Blind Melon - No Rain
Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitta
Deep Blue Something - Breakfast At Tiffany's
Semisonic - Closing Time
(those all have probably gotten lots of mentions in 90s 1HW threads but whatever I wanted to post them)
Jimmy Eat World - The Middle
Fountains of Wayne - Stacy's Mom

On the 90's stuff, I'd probably vote for Presidents of The United States, but I am hoping for a 3 pack some day there. Either way, I love Kitty & Peaches.

Great band, too bad they broke up so quickly.

This thread reeks of stupid, especially since there's lists of this stuff everywhere. Google it, don't take bad opinions.

So, some would argue this forum is stupid, yet. . . Here we are. And as has become my policy on my threads (as of today as a matter of fact). If you aren't going to positively contribute to the thread, shut the hell up and go talk somewhere else about something you do find worthwhile.

It's real easy. You press the "START A THREAD" button. Bye now!!!

I bet if you played all three, people would recognize them. All three were in the top 40. They did totally flame out after Pocket Full of Kryptonite, though.

Technically, U2Phreak, a one-hit wonder is defined as any band that only had one single in the Billboard Top 40. But that definition sucks, because Jimi Hendrix only ever had one Top 40 single. I liken a "one-hit wonder" more to a band that came out of nowhere with a huge hit, then either totally disappeared, or had one other follow-on single that might have been popular, but nowhere near as much as the first one. Once a band gets a song in the top 40, the radio stations/record labels usually push another one of their songs hard, so it's not that difficult to become a "two-hit" wonder.

Ok, I already had 15 songs from the 90s posted. Gotta take some time to compile my list. There's way more than 15!

How about Layla? Or All Along The Watchtower (Jimi's cover, of course)? Or SOAD's one-hit?

Was it just me or did I specify one hit (maybe two hit wonders here. . . EEEEEAAAAAHHHHTTTTT! Sorry, wrong answer!

You can't list Hendrix and Clapton on a one hit wonder thread - Sacrelage!!!!

By the way, what do you guys think of The Animals - House Of The Rising Sun!!!???!!!

Look kid, Hendrix had only 1 top 40 hit, and it was that. Layla is Derek and The Dominoes only hit. Eric Clapton being a member doen't make it a non-OHW.

Cult of Personality - Living Colour
Possum Kingdom - Toadies
Cover of the Rolling Stone - Dr. Hook

I'm pretty sure both of these fit the qualifications. Not familiar with any other popular Toadies songs or Living Colour tracks that drew much attention. I also forgot about Stealer's Wheel and Free, those are great tracks.

I don't want to take the time to research Derek & The Dominoes to call you on that one so I'll let it rest, but Hendrix is anything but a OHW. The Outfield - Your Love, there is a OHW. I guess, just for you let me revise my previous definition - Without recognizing that "one song" you would have never otherwise have heard of the band/individual.
I have a feeling you know this and are just baiting me, but let's leave it at that. Hendrix had many "hits" charted or not and so has Clapton (who by the way sings Layla in his normal concert rotation).

Danzig - Mother (although he has so many better songs)

You know they also got back together pretty quickly after that, right?

I hadn't really thought of them as one hit wonders (since both peaches and lump were pretty big hits), but I would take pretty much anything from them.

Name one other song by Pure Prairie that is memorable that saw airplay?
In 20 years, The Middle is all Jimmy will be remembered for. . . But otherwise, you are right. Now they have had other hits. By that same comparison and reasoning so did The Knack, The Outfield, The Hooters, etc. though. Over time songs get forgotten about except for the big ones. This thread was meant as a tribute to those songs.

Stars-Hear N' Aid, it was their only song and it was a supergroup of 30+ musicians that was designed to benefit children in Africa.

Ratt was hardly a one hit wonder.

Uh, Round and Round was their only top 40 hit, excepting one other song that only made it to number 40.
