View Full Version : Why did Harmonix give those screens to IGN?

It's nice to generate a little hype I guess, but the screens clearly aren't showing anything worth seeing at the moment. It's kind of embarrassing to see the jeans clipping through the shirt here.

Why release them so early when they aren't really ready to be seen? Are they feeling pressured at the moment to show us something?

First thing, IGN is the best gaming site.
Second thing, they're assuming that people will know it's pretty much pre-beta and won't be nitpicked by people like you.

to give people a general idea of what the npcs and area are gonna look like. and it also kind of shuts a few mouths who were saying that theres no need for a rythm game to have high toned graphics, and seeing of the pictures given, they look pretty nice (minus the blatant clipping)

Well, perhaps the most visited gaming site anyway... (their 6-page articles that say nothing and the This game is liek perfect until next year when we'll say that game was perfect and this one had a bunch of flaws we forgot to tell you reviews of AAA franchises are annoying as hell). I still check them out daily, but I'm pretty wary of them compared to some other sites. That's all for another forum though...
I admit that the character's didn't seem the most polished in those screens, but I guess they had to give 'em something.. I actually wouldn't have minded seeing concept art to tell the truth.
Then again, heaps of people would probably be clawing at the walls if they didn't get any screens soon :P

Don't care much about graphics ... yeah, I get excited when I see Bioshock or Crysis movies, but then I just go back to CS 1.6, Warcraft III and other gameplay kings out there.
Anyway, I'll be high while playing RB, so that's one more reason to just ignore the graphics. eheheheeh

yah the models looked somewhat primitive, but i thought that the lighting in the game was done very well, and as a computer animator i know that thats the kind of thing that can take up most of your PC (re-rendering scenes with no lights in the scene cuts the time tenfold generally)

Oh yeah, that lighting is lookin' awesome. Easily the thing that stands out most in the screenshots. I'm likin the look of the clothes and instruments too, not sold on the character design though.
But yeah, its a rythem game, graphics aren't the most important thing.

They could have shown the Wireframe images and I would have been perfectly content.
I love anything about this game.

At this point, it was more important to show the design concept than a finished product. I think most (not all, apparently) gamers nowadays are savvy enough to realize that screenshots from months before a release will look different than the finished product. We've all been dying for Harmonix to throw us a bone, and I'm more than happy with the article. It gives just enough to keep us satisifed but hungry for more :D

Not all people understand early shots are not finished works.
Look at all the **** Too Human took.

True, maybe I'm giving people too much credit.

With four people playing at the same time, is there even going to be any room left on the screen for characters and lighting effects and hilarious shirts-through-pants etc? I'm just imagining the screen filled with coloured dots scrolling every which way.

I didn't even notice the clipping. It looked like the guy had sewn denim pockets to his pants to me.

I gotta confess, I was actually pretty happy with the screenshots. Before it was announced that there was a customization feature(To what effect I don't know what it will include), I thought and still feel as though they "created" those characters. It didn't look like they were polished either, but they honestly seem as though they were created, much like how we will create (Hopefully) our awesome shred-stars!
