looking for Halo 3 Forge videos and came across this.

http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/879/879549/vids_1.html

Video is about 4 min long

Edit: - looks like they have created characters.
- they show gameplay of:
STP - Vasoline
Nirvana - Inbloom
Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go
Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun (they say "for the first time ever" which i have no idea why.

not very impressive but shows some more of STP and drums.

OMG, their bass player blows (can't hold down steady 8th notes) and their drummer has a seizure on the drums, thenforgets to start playing again for a measure.

Aside from that, some really clear footage.

are the drums on hard or expert, b/c in STP it didn't seem like you can play every bass drum hit...and at 2:51, there are missing bass drum notes...

Yeah, guitar definitely doesn't look like it will be a snoozer by any means. At the least, it doesn't look like it will be any easier than the original Guitar Hero.

If you look during Vasoline you can see that a female character is singing which means that your create-a-bandmember can sing songs by male and female vocalists.

Heh, the drum board jumps up when you hit the bass drum. That's a nice little touch I never noticed.

I like how the arrow for vocals turns instead of just jumping up and down (if you watch it I think you'll know what I'm trying to say).

Brief clip of the crowd singing along during Should I Stay Or Should I Go.

Nice stuff, and high quality video too.

Is it just me or is it still difficult to notice the Star Power notes? They look like they are white, but don't necessarily glow. Also, is there a way to tell if Star Power is deployed, besides seeing your meter go down?

I believe that when you activate it, your fret board gets glowing designs on it, instead of the smoke. I like the change, if that is indeed what it is. Thanks

Vocalist star power seems to be used up during the 'freeform' sections. How that plays into scoring remains to be determined, but a good example is around ~2:30 when he lets out the "Woooo". You've got the blue "star power" colour we all know and love and the Rock Power meter drains.

You can tell when the drummer has Star Power active, too. At the very beginning of the Vasoline clip (~0:53) the board is quite stylized, and you'll notice that the "rock" bar on the far left is sparkling.

You can see it shortly after that for the guitarist, too, and since the background is friendlier there, you'll also notice the flaming aura around the guitar icon on that meter.

You've got the blue "star power" colour we all know and love and the Rock Power meter drains.Looking through the video, it appears that the vocalist has "star power" sections, the same as everybody else - at 2:57-3:01 the vocalist's lines and words are a different colour, and at the end of that section his area lights up and the "star power" meter fills up by 1/4. The vocalist's "freeform" section appears to be a way to activate the "star power", if he wants to at that particular point in the song.

As to scoring, I notice that when star power is activated, eg. 2:47, a x2 multiplier appears next to the total score box, which possibly implies that everybody's scores are multiplied while it lasts. I'm also pretty sure I've seen higher values there in past videos - from that, I would guess that for instance two people having star power active simultaneously stacks and multiplies everybody's scores by 4.

More quality Rock Band love from IGN. Normally that site is a crapfest, but they've been doing a great job with their RB coverage.

Just on pure game details that was probably one of the most insightful videos I've seen yet.

Plus the Vasoline guitar solo is way encouraging that they aren't snoozing on the guitar parts.

It looked to me like Vasoline and Should I Stay or Should I Go? started at the beginning of the song... and the vocalist started with a X2 multiplier. What's up with that?

Should I Stay or Should I Go? and Black Hole Sun both had Bang Camaro sing-alongs. Those work great.

Omg, don't dl this guys! As soon as I loaded it up it must have possessed my mediaplayer with the ghostly spirits of schmucks. Luckily I have paranormal technology which allows me to take photos of it:

http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/4141/snapshot0070td5.jpg
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/2348/snapshot0069mi8.jpg

They're haunting me through the fretboard! I'm hard-out spooked here, now.

*Edit: Actually, the bottom one might be Kevin Smith, who I apologise for calling a schmuck, if he truly has passed on to the great big rock concert in the sky.

I'm pretty sure that he's on medium, I played Black Hole Sun on expert (that was DEFINITELY not expert). I played In Bloom on medium, and I'm pretty sure that's exactly what I played.

I've figured it out. Your fretboards turn red if you're about to fail.

I love the way the notes crunch when you hit em now. I don't like the way the fretboard looks for the guitar and drums when rock power's on with that yellow, smoke was better :D

Yeah, that they do. And when you DO fail, it shows a freezeframe in the style of the freezeframe in the "band introduction" clip before the song on a red background, blocking out a majority of the venue, highlighting the depression and disappointment of the character that failed out.

and I don't know if "fail out" is the term used for it, but it's what I've been calling it.

Pretty sure you can customize that one design with different options, or at least hope so. It's better than GH in my opinion, I played as Pandora when I started out, and the notes turned blue on a blue background, brutal for the new guys. Thanks

Yeah. In that Expert Guitar montage, right when it starts the In Bloom clip, it says "Solid Solo" and then a number for bonus points.

wow, what an awesome video. The character models and animations look awesome! And I can't wait to use the creat-a-charcter feature. It about time they went a little more in depth as the how you can style your tats and makeup. Definitely loving the Photoshop-esque layers!

awesome piece of writing. Great vid too. One thing though; the make-up thingy will probably allow you to recreate your fav KISS-character. Although I absolutely love KISS, I will at the very least sigh and frown upon anyone who uses the feature to this purpose. Unless you create your own, KISS-inspired facial paint off course.

I suppose seeing the songs (with the exception of "Should I Stay or Should I Go") I am slightly more relieved that, while RB won't have super hard guitar parts (with the exception of HS so far) it shouldn't be a bore (especially since it will be a party game)

I also started laughing reading the descriptions in the article.

I loved the "Time Spent Covering Songs" part on the guitarist.

Don't know if you'll be back into this thread or not, but i thought i'd say something about the arrow. If you're not supposed to be singing a note, as in, there is not a singing part at the time, but you're still making noise, the arrow will be 90 degrees to the line, but moves up and down to tell you what pitch you're singing in. BUT if you're SUPPOSED to be singing a note, the point of the arrow attaches to the note. If you're flat the arrow end will dip down (so the arrow is pointing up, indicating you should raise the pitch to make the arrow perpendicular) got it?

The video on IGN is different now, insted of "Should I Stay or Should I Go", they put "Wanted Dead or Alive".

Why did they do that?

I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing.
