Well hey there everyone. I just joined, and I had a quick question. I hope I don't get banned lol or flammed for asking this but...
I own a Playstation 3 and a Wii. I want to get Rock Band or Guitar Hero III for Playstation 3. The problem is it's so damn $ I don't want to buy it just for the one game. But if I have to I guess I'd go with Rock Band b/c it has more stuff. (right?)
Anyway my question is: If I buy Rock Band for PS3 can I use the guitar from that to play Guiar Hero I II or III or Areosmith when it comes out? I was just wondering. I doubt Guitar Hero II or I would work b/c I have been told Guitar Hero III PS3 bundle guitar doesn't work with Guitar Hero II or I. That's true?
Anyway I am sure you can understand what I am trying to do.
What do you recomend?
thanks!

The Rock Band guitar only works with Rock Band. If the choice is between GH3 and Rock Band, the choice is easy. GH3 isn't all that fun, especially once you've played through it once. Rock Band has so much to do that it's hard to get bored. I have both, but I haven't really touched GH3 since Rock Band came out.
Definitely get the PS3 version of Rock Band, not the Wii version. It has much more functionality.

the GH3 controller wont work on rockband
Activision are a bunch of babies and refuse to release the patch that will make the GH3 controller work on a PS3, so buy rockband, cause it's well worth it more than GH3 and just buy a stand alone guitar is a few months, when they're finally out and people can use them.

Rock Band comes with 58 core songs on the disc. GH3 comes with 71 (I think). I don't know how many songs are on the other GH titles. But, RB has nearly 100 downloadable songs that you can purchase. GH2/3 has nowhere near that number.
You were told correctly about guitar compatibility. The GH guitars will not work with RB on the PS3.
Standalone RB Strat's are now available along with some 3rd party guitars. There is also an adapter made by TAC that is supposed to allow you to use your GH2 guitars with the PS3 but so far I think the compatibility is limited (gamewise). There's a thread on this board that explains the pros/cons of the adapter.
Edited to add: I could never get GH3 to calibrate correctly on our PS3. We turned it in for the Wii version.

Guitar Hero guitars DON'T work with Rock Band for PS3. There are a lot of angry PS3 owners who were lead to believe otherwise.

Right, but that's not what he asked. He asked if the Rock Band guitar would work with GH1/2/3/Aerosmith.
But the answer is still the same: nope.

Any news of Rock Band 2 before I go and spend 169 dollars? (and will I have to buy just the game I hope)

On the PS3, the Guitar Hero 3 controller won't work with Rock Band and the Rock Band guitar controller won't work with RB. You can just avoid this problem altogether by just buying the standalone game and getting the PS3 Nyko Frontman (which works with both games) or one of the Ant Commandos guitars that's coming out imminently that not only works with both of those, but works on the PS2 as well (for GH1 and 2).
In theory, if/when Rock Band 2 comes out, it'll use all the same peripherals.

Only rumors, and those are pretty sketchy. If/when HMX ever releases a Rock Band 2, I'm sure the instruments from RB will be compatible. They have no reason not to provide backwards-compatibility with their own product.
So buy with confidence :)

I wasn't aware that TAC was touting their guitars as able to work with GH2 and 80s as well until you said this, but I just checked their Web site and they are. I bought one of the TAC adapters before being able to see a review, but I think I'll wait to read some reviews before buying one of these guitars to see if it does what it should. If it truly works and I can finally retire my PS2, I'll be a happy camper. :)

In my opinion, TAC's website is very misleading (perhaps deliberately so). I bet their guitars WILL work for GH2 and GH80s - but only on a PS2, not on a PS3.
Definitely wait for reviews.

the companys are freaking dumb, they should just fix the problem, or port Guitar Hero I & II over to PS3. I mean what the freak.

I'd love to see how that works...
Activision: We want to port GH 1/2 to PS3.
Harmonix: We made them. Pay up.
Activision: No.
Harmonix: Do you want them or not?
Activision: *grumbles, hands over cash*
Harmonix: Now, there's that issue of the GH3 controllers in Rock Band...
Activision: We made them. Pay up.
Harmonix: *grumbles, hands cash back*

Don't retire that PS2 just yet. TAC is saying that their guitars will play those games on the PS2 not the PS3. From what I've heard from someone who knows way more about this than I do, there is no way for ANY guitar to get GH2 or 80's to work correctly on a PS3.

Hey everyone, wondering what I choose to do? Well about 5 days ago I went out and bought ....
oooohhh noo...
Guitar Hero III for the PS3. and Played it for about 15 mins. (I still have been doing crazy work, and don't have the time to play games a lot. I bought GTA IV at midnight when it came out, and have played all of 20 mins, but that all changes once my apartment is clean b/c I have nights free now) .... but anyway .. I played it and could tell very quickly, I am going to get addicted to it!
So the next day I went out and bought Rock Band :)
I had some friends come over last night, and we all rocked out. I am pissed about my guitar, it was broke out of the box. No peg for the guitar strap. So I need to get a new one. Ah well.
But I like it so far. Haven't had much time to play yet. But I can't wait.
