I was thinking about something this morning. Isn't this game run by EA? Aren't all the other EA online games out there run on their servers where Xbox people can play w/ PS3 people? Do we have a confirmation that its not going to happen like that?

Secondly, if EA's running the servers, OH NO! Their online component always sux with lag, server outages, drops, etc...

Thoughts?

All console's online systems have always been and still are segregated. There is no way to play a PS3 player online with your Xbox 360.

EA isn't running the online. And its already been said many times that play between PS3 and 360 will not be supported.

Exactly, HMX is running the online themselves.

No.... it's over regular XBL and PSN. Nothing magic, no cross-platform.

EA is not runing the online Harmonix is. They're supporting, supplying, and managing it.

The servers are run by Microsoft and Sony respectively.

You can't very well expect corporations to allow anything that would benefit thier customers do you? That would be just plain silly.

Definitely not if it's something that will hurt yourself. Think about it. If XBL and PSN could cross-link, the customers who have, for instance, only a PS3 but their friends and would-be bandmates have 360s, would be able to play with their friends anyways, what's the point in getting a 360 at that point. You probably don't realize how many thousands of people right now are looking at Rock Band and thinking...."I want to play online with friends...but they don't have my system." And the ones who have the money and really want to, will buy the other system so they can play it. Same with most other major software releases, they'll consider getting a new system to play with friends and that's a benefit to whichever company makes the system they don't already have. And if RB did a cross-link, a lot of other software would attempt it and then that situation is repeated for each major release.

I call bull****.. I doubt there are more than 10 people in the entire country with a 360 that will shell out 600 bucks plus whatever an extra bundle will cost, just to play with a couple of extra friends.. I have money to burn and I wouldn't do that.

First off, PS3 isn't 600, it's down to 500 lol, secondly, the fact that you wouldn't and I sure as hell wouldn't doesnt mean NO one would. Not to mention, not everyone has a 360 or PS3 already, you don't want the decision to not matter, the idea is to offer similar services while differentiating yourself. If the companies come together on multiplayer that's one less thing that sets your product apart from the competition.

If you didn't own a PS3 or 360 and planned on buying one for Rock Band, would you buy the one your friends have or the one they don't? And if you could play with them online while still buying the other system regardless, you wouldn't be influenced by the fact that your friends and that's one less reason you need to get a 360 when you friends have a 360, or one more reason you don't need a PS3 when your friends have one. Peer influence affects sales, theres probably other reasons behind it too, but I'm sure they don't want to make their products generic, there are 2 major powers fighting at this point, Wii's winning without being a contestant and PS3 and 360 are grappling over second place. PS3 and 360 need to offer like experiences without copying each other directly or making their products more generic. That's why XBL is countered with PSN which is the same type of thing but clearly different. 360 has its different versions with the Elite and even the Halo Edition, PS3's already got like 5 diff types already to offer the same type of thing but in diff. ways. You want clear cut advantages and consequences to purchasing or not purchasing your product, if the differences are minimal, there's no particular reason to pick your product from another.

An 80 gig is 599

Maybe I'm a bigger person than most.. But I wouldn't bow down to peer pressure.. I'll get what I think will make me happiest. What other people doesn't affect me. I'd rather find new friends.

I doubt RB is the only deciding factor for most. Brand loyalty and past experiences will play the larger role.

True enough, but I wasn't saying that's all there is to it, just that the 2 giants need to be very different if they want to have their own identity and swing people from previous brand loyalty to try their products. I wouldn't go as far as finding new friends cause my old ones don't have the same console, that's a little too hardcore and coldblooded for me lol, but I'd get the system I like and play with people online, and maybe just buy an instrument and go over a friend's house to play.

I betcha it could work the other way.

Could work both ways, usually if you have 600 bucks to spend (360 + bundle), 700 bucks isn't a far cry if that's what you want.

Either way you're pretty obsessive.

And to add to the original conversation, the online won't be cross compatible, Sean already confirmed that.
