This is not really regarding an "hmx cover" of sorts but rather a thread with an original or known band doing a cover of a famous song made by other artists even on songs in the game already. Not really meant to be a "this sucks how can you like this better thread" but hopefully this might expand the creativity of some and allow some people to enjoy favorite songs in a new way, to to see songs you did not like perhaps presented in a way you now enjoy. :D

okay a few to start off

David Bowies Heroes as covered by the Wallflowers (sorry bout godzilla being in it! )
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1g2VdB4YpzQ&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1g2VdB4YpzQ&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Boston's more than a feeling as covered by ingram hill, though many will consider this blasphemous for some reason I like ingram hills version the best (one of those great chill unique bands most will never listen to imo :D )

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qA-kiz3KPAU&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qA-kiz3KPAU&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

for those who for some unknown reason aren't a big fan of bon jovi, Atreyu (much harder band) made a cover of you give love a bad name. (also note opening lins not the most friendly in this version, theres ya warning)

<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NCAvmFNWcCA&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NCAvmFNWcCA&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

and finally though every single bon jovi cover I like more than the orginals, here is just a lone sample of one of their's (theres alot of bealtes out there, Richie is a HUGE lennon fan! he even references it in "hard times come easy" one of my fav. richie songs) dunno why audio seems so off

Actually, that's a George Harrison penned tune.

Jimi Hendrix- All Along The Watchtower
Jimi Hendrix- Hey Joe

Two of the greatest covers of all time.

Hmm... I love cover versions, here's some I'd suggest:

Foo Fighters- Band On The Run
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LuHlYVs7RA4&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LuHlYVs7RA4&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

Disturbed- Land Of Confusion (Only because we'd never get Genesis's original)
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9KW8DRSvEoQ&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9KW8DRSvEoQ&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

And just for my own personal amusement, and to help publicise her as part of the bloomer brigade, here's Emilie Autumn's cover of Is It My Body (originally by Alice Cooper)
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HBhGuumIpSc&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HBhGuumIpSc&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

And although the song wouldn't work in Rock Band, I always preferred Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah.

+44's English cover of "Gutten Tag" by Wir Sind Helden and Wir Sind Helden's German cover of +44's "When Your Heart Stops Beating" are really good covers. Especially +44's cover.

I wouldn't say I like the following more than the originals, but they do stand out as good covers.

With that being saif, I also dig
Lenny Kravitz's cover of "American Woman"
Aerosmith's cover of "Love Me Two Times" by The Doors
Spiderbait's cover of "Black Betty" by Ram Jam
Honest Bob's cover of "Head Like A Hole" by Nine Inch Nails
The Offspring's excellent cover of "Next To You" by The Police
The Hives' cover of "Back In Black" by AC/DC
Stone Temple Pilots' faithful cover of "Break On Through (To The Other Side)" by The Doors

I ate cake with Emilie Autumn after a concert last year. My girlfriend was supposed to audition as her backup singer, but it didn't work out. And yes, my girlfriend aces all RB songs on expert vocals.

Metallica - Turn the Page

Definitely. I like their cover of Whiskey In The Jar as well, but not more than Thin Lizzy's.

Someone earlier posted Hendrix's versions of All Along The Watchtower and Hey Joe. Also good choices.

While I love Jimi, I prefer Stevie Ray Vaughan's version of Voodoo Child (Slight Return) to Hendrix's.

I bloody envy you so much. She is one of my favourite artists.

Pity your girlfriend didn't get to be a Bloody Crumpet, is she a model? Emilie's Bloody Crumpets are pretty much all alternative models.

Just thought of some more:

Cream - Crossroads
The Animals - House of the Rising Sun

Also, the Class of '99 did a good cover of Another Brick in the Wall, but I still like the original the best.
