View Full Version : I figured out the DLC pattern!

We will get a steady stream of songs by bands already in the game. While alot of the bands on RB are good. The problem i am starting to have is the fact we are getting fed songs by either unknown bands, or the same bands already on the original disk. So by that logic the 200+ songs that are coming out this year will be in my estimation atleast 50% by bands on the original disk.

I hope i am wrong by a long shot, but we can not deny that we are getting a steady stream of songs that are made famous on the original disk. So basically HMX already got the rights to most of the songs from those bands. Which is why we are getting what seems to be ground hogs day DLC. Which will just keep going till the end of the year especially at 3 songs per week pace. This is of course my personal opinion, but the fact remains a vast majority of the DLC has been from bands on the game disk.

ground hogs day DLC

Great Film :p

On topic i sort of agree with you although i hope soon that we'll start to get more variety, as more bands will start wanting their music in the game. It takes a while to make the charts after they've got the licensing

The problem is that the Harmonix CEO finally went outside after six months of playing Rock Band, and he didn't see his shadow. So it's six more weeks of in-game-band DLC. :)

ROFL! Great point!
"Shouldn't we get to work on signing that deal for a Led Zeppelin pack?"
"In a minute! I'm trying to beat DFtR on Expert Drums!"

For me, it's getting hard to find something I actually want, I started just getting songs my friends want.

Not sure how you can think we are only getting bands that were on disk.

The First DLC release featured 6 songs by bands not on the original Disk.
The First 5 99 cent songs were from bands not on the original disk.
The second set of 3 99 cent songs were from bands not on the original disk.
First Six Song pack was from The Grateful Dead, Not on the original disk.
First Single initially released in a video game was from Motely Crue, not on the original Disk.
First Full Length Album was from Judas Priest, not on the original disk.
The Second confirmed full length album is from the Cars, not on the original disk.
The First band to promote a new release by offering free RB DLC is a band not on the original disk.

They have already released 44 songs from bands not of the original disks, and have over a dozen more announced.

Not only that the majority of the stuff released from bands already on the disk have been really good tracks and I think most people would have a hard time complaining about it.

Oh and god forbid we get a Sound Garden Pack, or a RHCP Pack or a Blue Oyster Cult Pack, or an REM pack... I think you get the point.

Actually we have received a pretty healthful dose of DLC from bands that are known and weren't on the disc originally.

Lynyrd Skynyrd
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Grateful Dead
Foreigner
The All American Rejects
The Black Crowes
Oasis
The Monkees
Judas Priest
Motley Crue
Blondie

Many of these (JP, Blondie, MC) have been in just the past few weeks.

This is not to mention stuff like Paramore and the bands that were in the Thrasher Pack amongst many others.

So I guess I would have to disagree that we are going to be spoonfed nothing but songs from bands on the disc or little known bands for the remainder of the year. I think HMX will continue to provide a nice mix as they have been doing since November.

So here's the breakdown:

A total of 97 songs have been released on DLC thus far.
50 of the songs released are by bands on the original song list.
47 of the songs are by new bands.
Out of the first 47 DLC songs released, 20 of them (42%) were by new bands and the remaining 58% by bands already in the game.

These numbers don't seem to support any sort of plan or method for DLC selection and the numbers certainly don't show a preference for releasing songs by bands already in the original game. After the release of next week's songs (scene pack) the numbers will be 52 by original bands and 48 by new bands.

Personally, I love the fact that we keep getting multiple songs from bands featured in the main setlist - after all, the main setlist was a good part of the reason I got the game in the first place. I'm still hoping for something else from the Killers, Rolling Stones, Beastie Boys, and Deep Purple (and eagerly anticipating the Pixies and the Who). Heck, I wouldn't mind seeing a third, fourth, or fifth song from some bands that have seen DLC love already - but no more Police, seriously :p

That said, like others have mentioned there are many 'new' bands that have gotten DLC releases as well - I'd say the split is about 50/50, though I'm not going to check exact numbers. Maybe it's not as much as some would like, but remember that every new band represents a whole new set of negotiations Harmonix has to go through. The pace at which these songs are coming out is nothing short of impressive.

You have to consider the fact that it's still relatively early in Rock Band's lifespan, and it's undoubtedly easier to work with songs from bands you've already released songs from than have to worry about getting new songs from new bands and then working on those.

It's certainly going to be easier to release another song from the same band, but it seems to me that they are doing a great job of keeping those numbers from being ridiculously unbalanced.

Even if we do/are getting more songs from Bands that are already on disc, which I hope we do, that just means we'll have a chance at a Foo Fighters Pack, a Red Hot Chili Peppers Pack and of course, Nevermind by Nirvana.

haha wheres the pattern? given we already have many bands not on the orignal disk the pattern is broken there is also limits to songs available by the original band and the variety factor will also not pay off to repeat the same bands to often....

its like watching a beautiful mind only not as beautiful or mindful :p
