I just cancelled my pre-order for Halo 3 and had the money I put down on it transfered to my Rock Band pre-order. And I have to say, I have no regrets. Has anyone else sacrificed a game or something else they were planning on buying in order to get this game? (RockBand?)

Nope, not with my megar earnings. Plus, I'm planning on getting Mass Effect the same day (if it's true RB arrives on the 20th). I figure I'll have to trade in The Darkness and Bioshock just to cut down on the cost... Being poor sucks rotten @$$

I would've just waited on rock band. Or just bought the game and drums and the other stuff later.

Not as much as trade-ins. Unless you absolutely NEED the money, don't do a trade-in. Find somebody to sell it to directly, you'll both save money.

Not so sure that was a smart decision, looking at IGN and Gamespot's reviews of Halo 3 (both 9.5's!)

To afford rock band ($375) I cant buy GH3 ($170) or Assasins Creed ($110) ... but it'll be worth it :D

I don't know where you're shopping, but if those are american dollars you should try to find a new store.

I did it the opposite way round. Removed my Rock Band preorder and put it to Halo 3.
Rock Band drums will be fun, but now I play guitar the guitar aspect is boring, and the songs aren't too brilliant on RB. But Halo 3... awesome. I know I'm in a small majority on this forum tho lol

Halo is essentially the Final Fantasy VII of first-person shooters, and I don't necessarily mean that in a positive way for either title.

I really don't understand why people get so riled up about halo. Don't get me wrong, I've played through it on my computer and everything but quite frankly, it's a less than stellar fps. Why all of the hype? Just because it was the first title that didn't suck on the xbox, (and even that isn't saying much) every fanboy falls back on it to defend the system to the death. I'm confused. Perhaps I've just been jaded by all of the better than average fps games that come out on the PC that consoles don't see, who knows.

maybe because it was the first GREAT console FPS since Goldeneye? lol
and I'm with you. I really do like Halo (never played 2 though, oddly enough), and 3 will be very awesome, but, I just can't justify being a Halo fanboy.
Especially since it'd take away from my time of being a Rock Band fanboy. :D

Four player coop. That's enough for me to buy it right there. I have friends in a different part of the state and online gaming keeps us in touch. The Halo series has always been overrated, but they're reasonably entertaining.
Based on the COD4 beta (and having not played Halo 3),I think COD4's multiplayer is going to slaughter Halo 3's, though.

I like to call myself neither. I have limited money after my guitar purchase (a squier strat special to those who I had asked for help in deciding - it was actually PROPER high quality) to buy Sega Rally (I loved that demo) and Halo 3.
I think Halo 3 really is of a high quality, above many pc games (not all I must add). I did not enjoy Half Life 2 as much as expected (but Counter Strike showed me how addictive and life-consuming hardcore gaming is), and I much prefer the sit-down-relax atmosphere of a console than the sit up straight on the chair at the desk PC.
Plus, WASD is brilliant and exact, but nothing is as comfortable, in my 14 years of videogaming (give or take a few years, i got the mega drive at 3), as the Xbox 360 Controller, made primarily for FPS.
Halo 1 just had that *something*. If I play Ocarina of Time, I can make a long list of why its old and not as brilliant, but it still has that feel that brilliant games have. The same went for Mario 64, when I first played a realistic driving simulator, Gran Turismo etc.
Halo 2... well its single-player was disappointing, but the 100% lag free (beat that PC - I hate it when you have everyone, a cool 9 ping then some dude on his Gran's 56k with 456 ping) multiplayer, when you didn't have screaming 8 year olds, was bloody brilliant. Nothing, for me, beat the relaxed atmosphere. Did most people care about their level or score? No. Go on Counter Strike, Battlefield "OMG u lke teh haxorz teh servr, i is teh pwnag3" etc.
And for me, playing a nice relaxed game of Halo is a lot better than sitting, playing plastic instruments but I don't have the time to learn proper drums, so I'm more interested in that. I mean, when I got challenged the other day to face-off on Heart Shaped Box, i kept on missing the notes - I was playing it for real in my head lol.

I'll partway agree here. the 360 is great for left-hand replacement of WASD, but nothing beats mouselook.
I agreed with everything else you had to say for the most part though.

Oh you're a lefty, I suppose that'd help ya too. Of course - I tried the 360 controller on CSS, couldn't get the headshot speed. But, if everyone doesn't have this advantage, it makes it a bit fairer.

Agree. And what makes them both great? Multiplayer. Sit 4 (or 16) people in a basement and play and smacktalk until you can't sit upright anymore. Also the reason why it is more popular for younger gamers (4 XBox + 4 games + 16 controllers + router is cheaper than 16 full gaming PCs + multiple routers)

Ditto on the co-op. I'm on an internship (aka co-op :p ) and am looking forward to playing that with the friends back at school and at home.
And everything I hear about CoD4 is good. It's on my to-buy list.

Are we talking about the same Halo? :p
There's still just as much lag, lots of leveling/deleveling, and crazy smacktalk (like "you suck, because it was 4v1 and we all had rocket launchers and sniper rifles!") as PC games, and probably more.
Also interesting to note: I usually thought the screamers were 14yo's. Now you're telling me it's 8yo's. Are the 8yo's complaining about 5yo's?

I like the fusion frenzy games. Of course, there are 3 Wii's at my house at school, so that's the party game-platform of choice.

It seems to me Bakk that I agree with just about everything you post on this forum, but I must make the point of mentioning that if I was in a basement with 15 rabid xbox/halo fanboys I would probably shoot myself within about a 10 minute timeframe. Us Sony boys don't get along well with others. =P At least when xbox fannys start wars about how much better they think xbox is than System X and Y and Z and food and water, etc etc. I must have just missed the xbox bandwagon I guess. Not saying ALL xbox owners are rabid fanatics but it sure seems like a lot of them are, especially on ps3 forums lately where they stop on in for a good trolling and start flame wars. I lost track of the point of this post so I am going to stop talking now. I'll just say this, xbox is good, sony is good, coleco vision was deadly, (oh god I'm dating myself) so, um, just play what you like and rock on. yeah. ODOYLE RULES!!

Well, when you LAN you get to pick who's there with you. It's like old-school gaming, where you just went to your friend's house and played all night. So instead of playing with pre-pubescent kids who call you a '***', it's your good friends calling you a '***' :p

That's actually not what I've been hearing. The core gameplay hasn't changed (aka it's still Halo, and not suddenly playing like Ghost Recon, for example). It's the extra multiplayer features (Forge, instant replays, VIP, zombies etc) that are worth looking forward to (for me at least).
w/e, we'll see tomorrow.

Smart move. All the Halo games have been, at best, slightly better than average and generic. If I can get my 360 on time, I'm planning on picking up Rock Band and Mass Effect together myself.
