View Full Version : MY Rock Band Review =DD

Gotta change the color for this special event. I have a wonderful experience to share with you.Three very, simple words... BEST GAME EVERSome of you may have no idea. Lemme start from the beginning.
I woke up at 6:40ish saturday morning. The "Big Day" Got everything packed and such, shower, friends cmon over, yada yada yada. Some of you might not care about this part, but Its just my WHOLE experience. So everyone gets here,we pack,we hit the road, and we're all good and happy. Two hours later we get there at about 10:30 (Columbus-Ohio Sate U) We're driving around for nearly and hour looking for this 40 Feet Black Rock Band Rig...but to no avail. We have a friend call there Grandma to call the Tour Assistance line so we can get an exact bus location. And being a Ohio Sate football game day,the place was packed, and nearly NO parking. But finally we find the thing, drop off 4 of my friends and we go find a place to park.So we get back, and my maja sits down at a planner right in front of the bus. Me and my other buddy go into the bus to find our friends. (Heres where the partly juicy stuff is)
We get in there, and there already playing "Are you gonna be my girl" By Jet. There were three Rock band stations set up in the bus. On the wall of the bus above the TV there were guitars. Fenders,Epiphones, etc. They all had em custom with the Rock Band logo on em.I have pictures of two of em.But since it took us a good 40 minutes to get back to the Bus,they had already played nearly 5 songs. So me being a drummer hops on after they finish the song. I started playing Hard, cause Medium was a bit easy for me. My first impression, was that this is AMAZING we play a few more songs,me being on drums,an then I switch to guitar. I was really waitin to play this, try out the buttons and such. This...wasn't so spectacular(The first time) I wasnt too impressed. Its too plasticy and seems easily breakable. The Strum bar, isnt like a triangle like the Xplorer. This one is thin at like where its kinda in the guitar, and is curved kinda so its almost rounded. This was a different feel for me.The buttons also seemed differant, just because there wasnt really any spacing between them.I didnt really try the bottom buttons all that much. I really only played guitar once the first day.Sometimes people would accidentally press back during the Song Selection, and thats where it would freeze.(They'll have to work that out)That was ok though, nobody cared,we were all too hyped to actually be playing Rock Band.Hmm,whats next. Oh,well since 6 of us went, and only 4 of us could play at a time,I had you guys in mind and decided too look around, see how everything was setup. You guys probably know this already by now, but, there was a white Four USB Hub. That said Rock band on it,so you know its for the game, not a random hub. Also, there was a random like cable connecting to a little other thing that was black and had a picture of the Rock Band Mic Logo. I never could figure that out. The Mic was connected to the controller(duh)After playing and playing, and getting kicked outta the bus and playing more...My mom asked one of the crew members if we could play on the stage outside(Not to audition, cause we arent 18,but just to play. He said it should be fine,we just gotta ask Fabbio, and yea,the dudes name was Fabbio(sorry if thats mispelled)ALL the Crew Members were freakin awesome. So after a few more auditions,me and my friends get together, and hop on stage. We played the song we were all good at which was Are You Gonna Be My Girl. There was quite an audience watchin us. We did a pretty good run,and then everyone just kinda left the stage to go play more(Impatient right?)So we're playing more, and the singer Sean, came up and was like dude,we're all getting stuff. so I follow him while they're playing and we get out there, and the dudes lining up 6 sets of drum sticks, picks and hats. My mom even got a shirt which I got! Lucky me.
So after that there was more playing, and more getting kicked out so people could be in there. Then the football game started and EVERYONE left.Practically,we were the only ones there.but the other stations were still full. We never did get to play the other two features that were available(Tug of War and Highest Score Duel) So after more playing I had nothing left but to Sing. I sucked,BAD,but it was still really fun,and I didnt even think I would like it.It really was fun tryin to match the pitches and stuff.I sang a few times. The worst part though, was that the one friend that came was a drummer to,so I always had to switch with him.But by the end of the day,we had all played everything, and most of the songs. We stayed until closing, and then went to the hotel, feeling happy, and a tad hungry. We got to play on stage a few more times. Everybody that heard my friend sing on the stage was really impressed, people were making comments and everything.
Day 2:Woke up,ate breakfast, swam and got on the Highway. When we got there they were still setting up,it was funny cause they had a big pile of blankets and stuff laying out. They gave us a warm welcome, possibly anoyyed that the same group of people came back just to play.We waited for a good hour till they were all setup, but there was a star bucks so we were occupied..So eventually we get out there and play, and we have it all to our good and greedy selves. We all played, warmed up etc. We play for a good 2 hours, and then get hungry...We went to this crazy Mongolian place right down the street. After that we came back and played again. Since nobody was really there to audition,I was just kinda in the bus watchin the one Crew member play on stage. After he finishes a song he asks me if I want to come play drums with him, since I had my sticks in my hand. So I did and we're out there jammin. My moms gettin pictures, the other Tour Crew guy's gettin pictures. It was a total blast. Then me and him do a few songs and I build my way to Expert on drums. Then Fabbio comes and plays the bass,so then I was jammin with two tour Crew members,go me!Then my friend sean comes and sings for us. And after a song Fabbio leaves and we start talkin to the other guy. Sean told the guy they needed some Zeppelin or Beatles in there and the guy said "Led Zeppelin will deffinately get in Rock BandIsn't that something to chew on? But just alot more playing happened. I cant really say all that much about Gameplay. Its just like the videos. Really fun.Probably the funnest thing to do on drums is the free fill sections. Also the Ending parts of songs, where everyone just racks up points and you have to end correctly. Its awesome. When me and Sean had to leave the bus we went and talked to Fabbio,he said that its really a shame that we cant audition because we would do really good.He asked if we were going to the Cleveland tour too and we said yea.He said, well Ill try to get MTV's permission to Record you guys and stuff since you arent 18. He wants to record us because like all the other videos are just older dudes playin pretty horrible(what we saw) except a few groups did good. But he also said sean should bring his guitar so they could just set up an amp and jam or somethin.I didnt get all the details. But it was Totally the best game ever and had a total blast. Like I said,Im tired, and the Review is probably just totally butchered in Grammer. Please enjoy and ask all the questions you want. Im sure I could answer them.:D
Pictures will definately be up tomorrow. Also more information about the game.
PS: I tried the Switch on the guitar, that was really cool, but couldnt hear the effects that much. And Dani California was really fun to play on the drums.

Dude, that sounds frickin' awesome! Thanks for scoping out more info, like the Rock Band-branded USB hub, very cool. And you said that the mic plugged into the controller, you're 100% sure about that?
Glad you had a great time, sounds like a blast! You got to play way more than we did, and sadly, they were all out of swag for us. Booo. Sounds good though, looking forward to the pics! :D

Led Zeppelin, YES PLEASE!!!
I would rather they be just DLC to be honest, one Zeppelin song on a disc would mean it would get played a ton...... I don't EVER want to get sick of a Led Zeppelin song.
Some people just aren't as lucky as me....stairway
Great job on the write-up BTW, it was an enjoyable read :)

The tour hands know as much about the final build of the game as we do right now so that quote about Led Zeppellin is probably a bunch of bull.

Hearing that Fabio the tour guy saying that Led Zeppelin will get in the game doesn't sway me one bit. Those crew guys don't work for Harmonix, so they don't know any more info than any of us do.

lmao, sean in disguise :P glad you had fun reaper. And thanks for the info on the game, when you get up and read this message are you 100% about that mic? someone swore they were 100% sure it was connected to the USB and not the controller. Just curious about that, btw... i'm big on customization, did you happen to see any of the menus for that? maybe a "create a rocker" or something? I would expect you to be able to go into it, but i mean as far as just seeing it? Anyways, thanks in advance if you can help out :P

I'm so pumped for this tour. It sounds so awesome. All that swag sounds awesome, I totally want a shirt and drumsticks! I hope next month when the tour comes near me I have as good of an experience as you. I really hope Led Zeppelin is in the game, I really feel like it has to be!

I wouldn't take that Led Zeppelin name drop too seriously. People will claim anything if it gets you to buy what they're trying to sell. Go to a Gamestop and ask if [insert anything here] is in a game that you're interested in. They'll more often than not say that it is (regardless of the truth) if it'll get them a sale. This guy doesn't have much credibility as it's likely that he doesn't know anything special about what licensing MTV and Harmonix has obtained. He was probably told to do or say whatever he could to get people interested in the game.
It's also possible that he was referring to the recent interview with Little Steven in Game Informer where he says, "We'll see what we can do license - wise, but certainly someone like The Beatles or the Stones, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Zeppelin - they'll probably have their own discs." In which case, they might get Zeppelin, but only in time for DLC.

Also, on a more on-topic note, Thanks so much, dude. This might have just given me the slight chance that I could play too! I'm only 15, and when I saw that 18 and up thing, I was freaking out. But if you got in, I might be able to, too!

Yes,and tf5_bassist,Im 100% sure. Because, the Controller was wired, and all 4 slots of the Hub were used. And the Controller Controlled the Mic.So yea.

even if this guy Fabio works for MTV, he still wouldn't know anything about the set list that we don't know yet. The only people that know that stuff are the scorehero guys (maybe,) Harmonix employees, and maybe MTV executives. I doubt Fabio the rock band road schlepper who works part time setting up video and sound equipment knows any info at all.

Sorry to burst the Led Zeppelin bubble but songs that are or aren't on the final setlist is not any info that that tour crew members would be privy to one way or another. I am sure it was just idle speculation on his part like "The Patriots are DEFINITELY going to win the Superbowl this year."

Yeah, but that statement is a fact. So why wouldn't the Led Zeppelin statement be a fact? Something along the lines of "The Boston Bruins will DEFINITELY be hoisting the Stanley Cup at the end of the season," makes more sense. :D

Well, that pretty much confirms it. Since there's about a 96% chance right now that the Patriots are, in fact, going to win the superbowl this year, cheating and all, then there is a 96% chance of Zeppelin being in Rock Band...however, since they have to know the final set list by now I'd assume, then we can probably wipe away that last 4% and just claim it as official. Update song lists across the webs my minions!

I guess we'll just have to wait and see until the songs are all announced...that and until January for the Superbowl.
I think thats an accurate analogy. What looks like the best team in football right now and what could be considered the best and most wanted band for this game...

So if the Patriots are the Led Zeppelin of the NFL, does that make the Colts AC/DC?
And does that make the Cowboys = Stevie Ray Vaughn? or Garth Brooks?

Yes,and tf5_bassist,Im 100% sure. Because, the Controller was wired, and all 4 slots of the Hub were used. And the Controller Controlled the Mic.So yea.
I'm not trying to be contradictory or argumentative here, but this logic as described doesn't stand up to a "must equals true" statement.
Four instruments, all USB. Four ports on the hub. Three ports on the console (one in back, two in front). One controller. Controller+hub=2 ports on console used up, with all four instruments in the hub, and one left open on the console.
Did you physically see the cable and trace it down from the mic to the controller? Our controllers were wired as well, however, that was the only cable running to it, that I can think of, just a light-grey cable coming out the back of it.
Come to think of it, after it slid off the xbox, I picked it up and put it back up with the bottom of the controller (where the mic's supposed to plug in) facing away from me so that the only cable coming off of it wasn't tugging at the back of the controller so it wouldn't fall off again.
Sounds logical to me.
I'm still jealous you got swag though. :D

yeah but 4 wired instruments+1 wired 360 controller= 5 USB ports
Bakkster
09-24-2007, 03:24 AM
yeah but 4 wired instruments+1 wired 360 controller= 5 USB ports
I think the point is: 4 things plugged into the USB hub does not ipso-facto prove that there are only 4 things plugged into the 360. A 5th plug can be connected directly to the console, meaning the mic can be straight USB.

Did you even read what he posted?
Front Port 1 - Controller
Front Port 2 - 4-Port HUB - Slot 1 (Guitar), Slot 2 (Guitar), Slot 3 (Drums), Slot 4 (Microphone)
Back Port 1 - Unoccupied
Edit: Beat to it. :3

Maybe I should have said the Bills...or the Raiders?
Or maybe not with the sports analogies.
TheTogfather
09-24-2007, 03:35 AM
Yah, we're really over-due to have the confirmed by someone. It shouldn't have to come as a shock to the whole world, and really doesn't matter one way or the other, but over in one of the other 'I played at the Rock Band tour, here's my review' threads, someone claimed that the mic does not plug into the controller and instead plugs straight into the USB Hub, which is exactly the opposite of what has been claimed in this one. Both with 100% certainty of course.

Maybe I should have said the Bills...or the Raiders?

Yah, those would probably work for still being fairly unknown teams where about anything is possible...maybe go w/ Detroit or Houston, that'd probably be better. Just don't use the Rams...they are 100% not going to win the Super Bowl. They suck....so bad. Makes me so sad inside.

09-24-2007, 03:44 AM
Agreed. This needs to be settled, otherwise more threads will be polluted by it. I don't suppose Sean can confirm this for us, it's not like it's a big deal, but some official answer would be nice. :)

Also, the shirt just says Rock Band and all the tour dates on the back.

Ooh... if so, please dear god have an XLR input on it... It'd be freakin' sweet to be able to use my Shure SM58 for Rock Band!
Not to mention a hell of a lot more durable than whatever mic comes with the game.

Another Thing that I didnt mention:The Ingame Songlist Setup.
There were 4 versions of the Demo Disc, all with differant sections for music list.
At the First station, they were setup into time periods, like on the website. The second station had them setup into genres, such as Rock, etc, etc.I cant really remember them. And then the third station had them set up differantly too.(I dont even think there were categories, just all the songs in a list)

I don't think he meant it as "We know everything because we're that ****ing cool." I think he meant, "We know a lot about classic rock and we enjoy it." Probably would have been a better choice of words, but i'm pretty sure he was pissed because of your a*shole comment. Just because someone is young doesn't mean they can't read up and study about something that happened before their time. If that was true History class in schools would be f'ed.

I didn't say they were stupid. I just said they look like they just came out of their mothers womb a few months ago. big woop. And I said "does your friend know what a Led Zeppelin is?" because your typical teenager wears band shirts for the simple reason that they make them look tough and like they have a taste in music, not because they like the band. If he is a Led Zeppelin fan then power to him.

Never said you called them stupid, was just saying some kids actually do read and learn about people/events/things before their time and that you didn't have to make an ******* comment, not really like I have control over that but what's the point of being an ass? Espescially to a kid. From everything i've read what you've typed so far you seem like a pretty nice guy, so no i'm not calling you an ******* because honestly I don't think you are.
Just the comment you put was a little off, I mean really. Just because there are kids out there that wear band tees and act like they know what music is doesn't mean every single one of them do. That's kind of like saying every kid is an immature little brat. And believe me, I know where you're coming from with the whole band tee thing. I lived in Florida for a good while, and going to a highschool in Florida you see more posers than a damn run way :P

Yeah because the majority of teens I know who wear band shirts live and die for those bands.
The typical thing to say nowadays is everyone's a hypocrite.

Not to jump into the fight, but as a big Beatles fan, I wouldn't consider them classic rock. It's kind of hard to throw them into a specific genre, but when I hear Beatles songs, I don't think of "classic rock" the same way I do when I hear Zeppelin, CCR, The Who, Eric Clapton's various bands, Eminem, Steve Miller Band, etc.
There's no denying a hip/cool/awesome trend to wear vintage stuff, and a lot of people wear t-shirts with bands they don't really know. (Add to that young people just wanting to act older than they are, and you have lots of cool problems.) Anyway, I'm not accusing you (Emo-Reaper) or your friends of being that way, but if someone else does, don't just argue back saying "I know more about 'x' band than you do", because that still doesn't prove you don't like them because you think it's cool. And besides, its childish.
If I think its cool to like polar bears, I might read all I can about them, so I can sound cool talking about polar bears. But it doesn't change the fact that I started liking them because I thought that was the cool thing to do.
So if you like classic rock, awesome, but don't feel a need to defend or prove yourself.
PS - I know Eminem isn't classic rock, but I can joke around, can't I?

I know this is off topic. But seeing those pictures makes me want to play the game asap. I'm currently in grad school at UNC, in Chapel Hill. CH is somewhat known for its local music scene, and I was somehow hoping that RB would be lured into stopping by. For those that don't know, Chapel Hill is part of the "Triangle Area", because of the close proximity of Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and Durham (each is within minutes of the other). Those also happen to be the homes to UNC, NC State, and Duke...3 pretty big colleges (well....except for Duke).
But sadly, no Rock Band tour stop.
Anyway, when I got GH2 last year, I felt a need to play through it slowly, and not ruin it all at once. My plan was to play a few songs the first day, a few the next, etc.. Needless to say, I was finishing up Freebird a couple hours after getting the game in the mail. Oh well.
So I was wondering, does anyone else feel like they want to take the game slowly, instead of over-indulging on the first day, after waiting so long? Granted, with 3 careers (and yes, I'm not afraid to sing, even in front of my roommate, though she will likely laugh, or maybe cry, depending on how bad I am). I guess that makes the game last longer. What I'm really hoping though, is that they keep a few of the songs hidden, and are released over time, like after a certain number of hours played.
Imagine if they don't even tell you some of the songs in the game, and then only after playing for 20 hours, you go to the track list, and see a new song magically appeared.
This post is making no sense. I'm kind of thinking out loud.
