View Full Version : How I wish all the good metal bands from back then still played like this

I almost wish that I was born 10-15 years earlier so that I could have gone to a concert like this. If they started the song like this and exploded into it like they did, I would've killed people no doubt.

reminds me of the oldschool binge and purge box set that came in a bigass box that looked like roadie travel equipment.

one of the best shows i've ever been too was when metallica played at Reunion Arena for either sick and twisted or family values and james hetfield's voice was f'd up so all the other bands took turns coming out and singing / playing guitar....was so sick the entire arena ripped the seat covers (which we're bolted down) off and started throwing them in the pit.

I know just what you mean man. That was f***ing crazy. I would give almost anything to have been there. But I was only 7 when they played that show, 6 when ...And Justice For All was released, and 4 when Master of Puppets was released (not to mention being born when my favorite album was released, Ride the Lightning).

Well, I guess I am one of the lucky ones. Because I got to see this show including the very first tour Metallica did with Aromored Saint in like 84' or so. Yes I was awsome to see all these bands with only 250 people at the show in a bar Downtown Denver. I never saw so many shows in my life compared to the 80's. Litteraly 2 or more shows a month with bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Mercyful Fate, and god only nows what for about 8 years straight till I mellowed out on concerts. Those were definitely the days for sure, nothing like today stuff.;):)

I wasn't at that particular show (Seattle '89)...but I was at Salt Lake '89. Couldn't have been more than about a week before (or after)!

It was my first (of MANY) Metallica concerts.

I was 15-ish, me and a buddy ditched school, hitched a (200 mile!) ride with some older headbanger chicks that we didn't really even know, bought ridiculously over-priced tickets from a scalper around the corner, and...well, the rest of the evening's events are better left unsaid!

And yes, the show was incredible! I know Metallica has some serious haters out there, but I maintain that most of those haters would become fans if they were to see them in concert. IMO, nobody does it better on stage than them.

I would also kill to see them in concert.

Hey Xero, BTW I've always had you pegged as older than you are! Not ancient-old, but maybe late-20's.

I don't usually get into the whole 'How old are you?' conversation and I hardly ever look at people's profiles to see their age....but after I read the OP, I had to check. I was surprised at your whipper-snapper-ness!

I always forget that, at nearly 34, I'm kinda one of the old guys here!

Metallica is great..but the only metal band I put above them is Iron Maiden

I love them both, I can't really compare them. While they are both metal bands, they are, in a way, complete opposites. That, and you couldn't force me to choose. :p

I saw this tour, but when Cliff Burton was still with the band, Metallica was FAR better. I remember seeing Metallica open up for Ozzy Osburne and they totally destroyed his fat, spandex wearing ass right off the stage. People were chanting "Metallica, Metallica, Metallica" at the end of every Ozzy song. It was one hell of a show and I didn't miss a tour until I saw the Black Album tour, after that they are dead to me.

EVERYONE needs to start requesting Master of Puppets as a full-album download!

Lol, nah man, I'm a youngster. Turning 18 in 17 days =P You are an old guy indeed :D

Lucky bastards who got to see them live at such a moment in time ;_; I'd give anything to just experience them live, even now. The only concert I've ever been to was LP. They are my favorite band and it was just about the most amazing musical experience of my life, but I would love to see some older bands.

I'm pretty young as well (17) actually got to meet Larz after getting backstage at an Iron Maiden concert I met Steve Harris as well. Anyway Maiden is still touring and despite being older now they still put on one of the most amazing shows you'll ever see if you want to see a good show from an old metal band I highly suggest getting a ticket if they come by you. I'll be seeing them again later this month.

And yeah they still play and sound like they did 20 years ago for the most part. Moreso than Metallica parse.
