It's not really official or anything, but here is a link http://www.ebgames.com/search.asp?N=140+156 So i'm guessing the release date is around that time. Don't really know if anyone cares but I do. This means Frets on Fire and Guitar Hero better step it up or there will be no use for them anymore. I just hope the game is highly moddable.

It will be, if you go here: http://www.aspyr.com/product/story/85 and go to story, it says the keys are mappable. so if you want to make your own weird ass looking guitar with however many buttons or w,e. You can just map it, so yeah that basically is saying PS2 controllers with a USB adapter and 360 controllers WILL work. :P even the RB controller should work.

This will probably be the end of them, moddable or not. On a PC, it'll be hacked in no time. I foresee some really great usermade tools being available for it, and Red Octane running around like crazy trying to shut down everywhere you can download them from.

Really, I think this is a smart move for GHIII. Sure it'll get pirated/hacked/modded/unlimited songs/etc. But if you think about it, this will screw this big time. As for GHIV (if there ever is one) they're pretty much set. Just let it out for the PC, let it get a lot of publicity, modded/hacked, whatever. And once you get a ton of people interested in it. Let out GHIV but not for the PC. Yeah I know you can add custom songs and such on GHI and GHII for the PS2 ( even 360 now i think ) but it's way too much of a hassle compared to what you can do with a comp.

I meant the ends of Frets on Fire and whatever the other one is...why play one of those when you can play the real thing, especially once it's hacked to allow custom songs. It is definitely a smart move for GH.

Yeah, Frets on Fire and Guitar Zero won't get much attention after the release of GHIII. But I still say it's a good move for GH just for the fact it'll get a lot more people into it and when (if) the 4th is released it'll have major sells.

I think that this is a really bad move for Act and RO, as it will be modded and hacked to death on the computer adding every song under the sun to it. Now, that's not a bad thing at all, in fact it'd be a great way to play some really unknown songs by your favorite band. The problem becomes, what do you do afterwards?
You can't just release a new songlist because any song that you can obtain can be put in by the modding community and that will kill sales. So what do you do? Expand the game to include more instruments? It will be labeled as a knock-off of Rock Band (and rightfully so). Add new play modes? Any that will be added will be gimmicky (look at the battle mode and boss battles already in GH III).
This is a very good way for them to increase their immediate sales, but the ultimate way to ensure that any follow-up will tank.

And what record label would continue to license you music after you've just created a new platform for people to pirate on?

The x-padder and any other xbox360 controller works on a pc with official MS drivers.

People have been putting customs into GH games since the first, so it really isn't that big of a deal. Sure the PC version will make it MUCH easier and will grab a lot more people's attention, But that's a good thing. They probably won't release GHIV for the PC. People will just get the songs from a game disc and add it to the GHIII PC version, But it won't be the same. They'll eventually end up buying the newer one.

True, the old GH games had customs, but it wasn't exactly an easy process. Those were the people who are determined hackers, and you're never going to do anything about them. On PC, every script kiddie will do it, and if everyone can do it the labels are going to be PISSED. It seems to me that RO has two options:
1) Not stop the customs and lose all of their licensing.
2) Use draconian measures to stop the customs, alienating the honest players, while still allowing the hackers to get it.
The attention is a bad thing as well. Record labels don't want attention, especially if they think that attention is from people stealing music, or even 'stealing' music. All they want is money. I guarantee if an official GH game for PC gets hacked so the average gamer can use custom tracks, RO is never getting licensed again. Ever.

He speaks the truth. With a PC version it becomes super-simple to hack into and add custom songs. GH will lose a tonne of potential profits because of this. Why buy a new game when you can just download the tracks from it and put it into GH III PC?
Also Bakkster is correct in asserting that music labels will become pissed off at the constant hacking and will probably hold it against Neversoft, RO and Act because they can no longer charge the earth and moon for licensing anymore.
Let's put it this way, Activision is digging the grave for GH with this move as no one will ever need to buy another GH after this one. (Even with Draconian measures in place, there's still going to be a lot of stuff that manages to make it through). What reason would everyone have to upgrade if they can just download and play new songs (which is the main appeal of GH)?

Not really, I've seen 12 year olds and younger with modded PS2s playing custom songs. It's not the fact of being a "determined hacker" (not saying a 12 year old can't hack a game). It's just being smart enough to read. It doesn't take much to add a custom to a GH game nowadays, Programs make it extremely easy and just about every little "hacker wanna be" is doing it to their PS2 with mod chips/magic swap/or the hard drive for the PS2.

How would two player work for Guitar Hero III on the PC? If you plug in two Xplorers, it reads it as one. Plug in a USB keyboard, it reads it as one. The only way is to buy the Les Paul..... which is wireless.

Nah, if you plug in two X-Plorers it reads them as two different controllers. Not sure if it's something I installed but when I go to mess around with MAXMSP to use my guitar controllers as "real" guitars to make some cool little tunes I can use both, one for bass and the other for lead guitar.
