i heard from someone that played the game at the OSU campus that you can only strum upwards on bass. is there any truth to this? ive watched the paranoid video many times and the girl is strumming up and down, but thats on expert where maybe it might be to hard to only strum up, but on easy and medium since its so slow, you can only strum up, this is just what the guy said, any truth to this?

I don't think it will force you to only strum upwards, you can definitely do it if you want to, but I doubt they would force you to, it wouldn't make too much sense to me.

Plus like you said in videos it shows people strumming down and up while playing the bass.

my friend played bass the whole time we played, and she strummed down mostly. She's not a bassist, and is still fairly new to GH (she can do decent on hard sometimes), and she didn't have to strum up only.

Rubbish mate. Ain't gonna happen. What, do you think HMX would deliberately make it crap like that?

That being said, I LOVE playing bass like this on GH2, especially for Sweet Child o' Mine. Just feels a lot more authentic...though for some songs it's downright impossible...

Well, for some songs, the bassist uses a pick. You just have to get good at using 2-4 fingers alternatively to speed up your picking. And with the strat reportedly working well for this, I'm hoping it will improve my finger speed or help me to learn 3-finger picking.

NO,this is not true.I was there,I played that guitar,I most likely talked to your friend. The guitar strum bar was broken and onnly worked strumming up.This was just a Coincadence. Its not true...

Yah, I'm only really capable of one finger picking...maybe I'll try to work up to two or even 3. I just feel a whole lot cooler when I pick the bass parts like that.

You'll almost have to do 2-finger picking if you want to do Highway Star. Although, Tim B (RATM and Audioslave) and James Jameson (everything from Motown) don't switch fingers when they pick. It's just a personal preference.

I really hope that the strum bar is made in a fashion that makes this kind of picking possible. The GH guitar strumbar was too loose, not enough tension for accurate 2-finger picking. I always tried it, and it never worked. Is the Strat's strumbar really stiff, or is it loose like GH?

This is happening a lot I am sure. There were at least 2 guitars that were worn out from all the people playing it back in Milwaukee. One of them on stage, strumming down no longer worked but upwards did; then 10 minutes later I find one that a person was concerned about and I confirmed that the strum bar was indeed loose/dying. Felt like the spring was half-gone from it and had the feeling one had to jam it hard for it to work, which of course would make things worse.

I wonder how many spare instrument peripherals they have in supply and if they'll have to have more shipped to them before the tour is over, heh.
