alright, so i've watched all of cena's reviews about the kick pedals and pad covers...and after buying the Drumsoft and RockPedal MOD's...here comes another question...what about Drum Thrones.

i see from the rockband store you can get one that is a circle pad with double reinforced legs (2 of the 3 legs) for $39.99...but it doesn't ship until may 20th.

i also looked online at guitarcenter.com, but found a million thrones all ranging in price from avg of 40-50 bucks to over 250 bucks...so quite honestly i just need some opinions from real drummers...at least on what i should be looking for in relation to functionality, comfort, and pricerange.

Honestly, my preference is Roc-n-Soc. Although I haven't sat on every throne out there, the Roc-n-Soc are the most comfy thrones ever. I have two personally and love both. I just "upgraded" to the Nitro throne with the added back support because I have back issues and still want to play my real drums. With this throne change alone I can easily sit and play for hours on end without getting up. I have a few others that just dont have that plush cushy feel. More like a stiffer foam with vinyl covering it. Not for me, but seems to suite most of the people out there.

One thing to look for is also how the height adjustment works. On the cheapos you have to unscrew a wing nut and find the right hole for the proper height. These suck. So pay attention to that. If it doesn't matter to you then you'll save some cash. And also make sure the legs are the double reinforced ones. The single ones can get wobbly and those suck too. But this all depends on your budget. Just because I think they suck, they are still better then a folding chair or whatever.

Anyway, my nitro throne isn't necessary for RB alone. It is about $150 without back piece. but you can get some others for around $100 bucks. Depends how long you plan on sitting really. The best thing to do is to find a drum or music store and take 10 minutes and sit on 10-15 different thrones. You will feel the difference immediately. Then watever feel your happy with, try and find the least expensive one that suits your needs. Like you said there are so many, I can't just tell you what is best for you personally. Your height, weight, leg length, back etc can all play a role in what to pick. Go check some out and go from there. You could probably find a very descent one for around $40-50 bucks. Just like all things, you get what you pay for.

Good luck, and let us know if you need any more guidence.;):)

I think comfort should be first, but height adjustment is also important. Go for the ones with the screw height adjustment. Also, the engineer in me says get a throne with three legs, not one with four (I'm amazed that they even make 'em). With four legs, it's possible that one could get out-of-plane with the other three, then you've got a wobbly throne. This can never happen with three legs.

My one and only suggestion for buying a drum throne is: Do NOT buy one online unless you've physically tested them first.

Go to a brick & mortar music store (Guitar Center, Sam Ash, etc.) and try a bunch out. Put your ass in the seats and see which one fits not only your behind, but your budget too. THEN you can go online and see if you can find a better deal on the one you like.

My two recommendations for brands would be Pork Pie or Roc-n-Soc.

I know I've used that line several times in different drum throne threads, so that was probably me. :) Glad to hear you're liking it!

I don't drum a lot, but I realized that even a mediocre throne is better than an office chair or worse yet, a kitchen chair!

The one I bought was this model (http://www.musiciansbuy.com/Percussion-Plus-900T-Drum-Throne-900T.html). It ran me about $30 and it's comfortable enough for an hour or two of play. It easily supports my 225 pounds.

I only went with this product because I am not usually a drummer and budget was a concern. If you usually play drums in RB, then by all means invest in a good throne. You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to seating.

Works great for me thanks. I think it was you now that i think about it. Thanks for the suggestion i had it without the backrest but then went about a week later to get the back rest. Now it is perfect. Now i just need my pedal to come in and ill be ready to go.

Eh, I don't see the point in an expensive throne for RB, and the screw adjustment is just fine unless your height is changing by several feet on a daily basis.

I picked up this Double Braced Universal Percussion throne online for $19 several months ago and it's been working fantastic. I'm a pretty big guy as well and it holds up great

Well i am 6'-1" and my wife is 5'-2" and my cousin is 4'-8"(young) so there is alot of moving for the height in this case. If i were the only one playin i woudl be good.

I actually bought a cheapish throne this weekend for around $50.
Completely worth it. I feel much more comfortable at the drums, and my foot pedal technique has improved.

I went with this throne (no, I didn't get the back rest for it).

Pearl D2000 Drum Throne (http://www.pearldrum.com/d2000-br_lrg.htm)

I went to the Drum Shoppe here in Calgary, and told the guy the problem I was having with my tailbone hurting after extended sessions on my son's cheap $30 drum stool (I won't call it a throne after the pain I had sitting on it). He said that was a common problem with some drummers and that I should try this one because of the 'cut out' in the back, leaving no pressure at all on my tailbone. I sat on probably six to eight different thrones in the shop before agreeing that not only was it the most comfortable, but it certainly did relieve the pressure from my aching (long night of Rock Band the night before) tailbone.

Probably the best purchase I've made other than the game itself (in terms of equipment for this game). In Calgary, the throne sold for $160, so it wasn't all that expensive, but worth every penny for my butt.

Funny that you mention that throne. We played a gig this past weekend and I ended up not bringing my kit, using one of the other band's kits. (Out of town, last minute, etc.) That drummer had the D2000 and I thought it was pretty awesome myself.

If I didn't already have a Pork Pie that I love, I'd probably pick this one up.

I upgrade from a kitchen chair to a Roc-N-Soc throne. My ass and back love me now. I got the lunar lift version from guitar center, which has a 5 spoked bottom, pretty much like an office chair. I am going to get the back soon, and then I double as an office chair with no casters.

The throne made a huge difference in comfort for me, I took people's advice and sat on a bunch of thrones at a drum store and at guitar center, I wasn't looking to spend as much as this. But once I sat on them all, I ended up buying the roc-n-soc. Pedal technique is greatly improved and the swiveling nature of the throne lets me navigate the pads a little easier.

I looked at the Rock N Sock throne, but ended up with the Pork Pie Big Boy (http://www.guitarcenter.com/Pork-Pie-Big-Boy-Bicycle-Throne-440790-i1135619.gc).

They are about the same but the PP edged it out for me. BTW - I'm using it for my RL drumset. I use a cheap-o CP throne for Rock Band...
