Yeah, it would be nice for DLC that is for 1 instrument. Or just singing, or just playing the instruments together. Hell it'd be DLC so it's not like you HAVE to buy it.

I think it is a definite possibility that there will be some DLC that isn't completely band oriented. Maybe some songs that have no lyrics, or others that are heavily guitar or drums. I think DLC would be perfect for this, that way anyone that wants songs like that can pay for them.

thats exactly what i thought sense some people love the guitar and if they want rock band they would want a hard guitar song so they should put some in for just guitar or drums!

Agreed. Would be a shame to not have a song like Wipeout available merely because it doesn't have much in the way of vocals.

While I cna understand skimping on the vocals, I don't want to see songs that favor only guitars or only drums. This is a BAND game. Once songs start leaving certain instruments out, the entire point of the game is lost.

Since I consider the vocals more novelty than instrument anyways though, I definately don't mind those taking a hike.

It'd be one thing if a mostly-drum or mostly-guitar song was part of the core song list, but if we're talking DLC, what's the harm?

Don't know that I want to see an entire 10 song pack of drum-only songs or anything, but given that real bands have songs that heavily feature one instrument over another, wouldn't it be appropriate to reflect that in the game as well?

As stated in that Game Informer article (http://www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200709/N07.0914.1002.29748.htm)...

While the current song list contained on disc is geared toward band-oriented gameplay, the company has plans to release songs and entire albums directed toward guitar parts. So shredders who feel like their best licks are going unused in the standard career path can take consolation knowing that—if Harmonix delivers on their promises—they’ll be able to show off their moves in earnest eventually

Guitar-oriented songs are definitely planned for DLC. I would assume that each instrument might get the same treatment down the road.

Just seems like shaky ground. It would be like releasing gh2 DLC without co-op. It doesn't completely cripple the song, but it does undermine a prime feature of the game. Soon it's not only a question of what dlc, and how much the dlc is, but also how "fully featured" is the dlc.

As one who plans on buying the whole shebang, I'd really like to laod up any song I download and run through it on my instrument of choice for the day. Or when i have my friends over let them load up whatever they want without making disclaimers about which songs are fully featured and which are just a guitar track.

The DLC songs geared toward certain instruments will still have every instrument playable, it will just have heavier accented guitar parts.

To be honest, though, GH2 had pretty crappy song selection as is for co-op. There were about 3 songs where the bass was as interesting as the guitar, and maybe 2 more with rhythm.

Just remember, sometimes songs are boring. If you want to play bass on a pop-punk song, keep in mind that you will probably be playing straight 8th notes. I'd rather have them release a nearly equal mix: 20% each of bass, guitar, drum, and vocals features, with the remainder being somewhat balanced. This way I have songs where I can get my drum on, even though it's an instrumental, as well as songs for everyone to play.

YYZ For Drums :D With the LONG Drum Solo

That would seriously OWN. I'd love to be able to play any of The Rhythm Method, O'Baterista or Der Trommler tagged on with YYZ.

The nice thing is that Rock Band is just an engine... so they could get really creative with the download packs to accomodate different specialties.

For example... an instrumental DLC pack that has only guitar, bass, drums. A vocalist-centric pack. A drummer pack.

And then there is different genres... 60's, 70's, pop, country, western, metal, etc.

If the whole download thing turns out to be as ambitious as advertised... the downloads can be as diverse and creative as the music industry. Take the metal pack just released in GH2 360... it's an awesome template for what they can do with "niche" music that would never make a retail disc.
