On Saturday night i had just finished playing resistance and popped in rock band. When i get to the game menu i notice that it tells me how to use controller. I thought it was strange because that only happens when you first play the game. So i go to open up my drum career... boom no career. The data on my PS3 had corrupted. So all the higher difficulty songs got deleted. I usually have friends over to play the game. It kinda sucks if you only have 10 songs. I also lost a 2 song from completing expert guitar career. I also lost my 7.2 million career score drums profile. I had six songs left on expert was stuck on longtime. So right now i am very pissed.

Note- I kept all my dlc

As far as I know it isn't, but if someone has a way to backup Rock Band save data without imaging the entire HD, let me know. My PS3 just lost its Blue Ray drive so I guess it's 50/50 whether I get it repaired or replaced. If the latter then I think it's bye-bye to my careers... Thanks Harmonix. Thanks Sony. :(

I had to start over on my 360 due to a data corrupticity, only it was for ALL of my saved files and not just Rock Band...

It doesn't take long to get back up there, it actually got me to replay the songs I don't normally play often and I got a larger career score because of it. Using my newfound skills on songs I don't normally play was actually cool. It forced me to get a better score. :P

Man same thing happened to me on saturday. My HDD had to reformat or something like that and it wiped out all my DLC so i had to re-download 30 or so songs which wasn't good and my careers and BWT got removed.

I rented GTA IV (thank god I never bought it) tried to play it and the game froze after the first cut seen.So I restarted and tried over and over again , nothing! So I returned it for another copy of the game, samething , the game kept freezing at the begining of the first act.
So I went on the net and did some investigating and saw threads of people having the same problem and some unlucky basterds blue-rays were even dieing also after trying to play.
So I figured that GTA IV just ain't worth killing my PS3 over and through in my beloved RB.Only to find out all my data was corrupted not only on RB but all my saved files.
Now the only thing that really bugs me about having to start RB over again is that I've lost all my bands forever. My Bands didn't have scores like the top 10 ,but we still had over 13 million fans and a half decent career score.
I only wish there was some way I could delete thoughs bands off the leader boards so I could recover my band names.

Anyway that's my story , I'll be sure to back up my files next time.

Did you delete the GTA4 game file? not the save file but the big game file it installs on your PS3. That was having issues and becoming corrupted on install, in turn messing up your ps3. I do not know if your game saves will be fixed but that will keep more issues from arising.

Wow guys, all of those stories just suck to hear. I'm sorry to hear all the issues. Really wierd. Were you all on PS3, or can this happen to both consoles including the 360? I have a few 4 gig flash drives that I could use if this would work. I have the 360 is why I ask. Again, sorry to hear the issues, I'd be pretty pissed too.:(

The GTA 4 issue only appears to be happening with the 60GB PS3's.

Here's a link on the fix: http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/grandtheftauto4/news.html?sid=6190279&tag=newlyadded;title;4

Edited to add: I finally read the entire article. Apparently GTA4 is messing with both systems.

I think it's time that I invested in a USB HD backup. I'd hate to lose my RB game save data or have to redownload all of my DLC.

PS3 does have a copy feature, but copying the Rock Band save data is not allowed. It looks to be a title-specific rule. It's annoying.

I doubt it's related by my Brother keeps claiming the PS2 version I gave him is deleting the save files from time to time. Though I never had that happen when I had that same PS2 and memory cards. I'm guessing it's just his kids f'ing things up.

Personally have not had any issue with my PS3s save games, but I also didn't buy GTA4 which seems to be a big culprit.

Me too. I assume just about any external USB HD would work with a PS3?

I just backed mine up for the first time. I think any external drive will work, but it's got to be formatted to FAT32. More than likely, you'll need to do this yourself. I used a program called fat32format to format my 250 GB drive... and it took 2.5 seconds to do. It took another 8 minutes to transfer everything (about 20 GB of stuff) to the drive with the PS3 backup utility.

Yeah, if FAT32 is a requirement then you wouldn't be able to single partition the whole drive using the Windows XP partitioning program, since it doesn't support volumes larger than 32gb.

Thanks for the info and pointer to fat32format, much appreciated.

The 360 won't recognize a flash drive as a valid storage device for things like game saves, gamertag profiles, etc. You can play mp3s and stuff off them, but can't use it like a memory card for games.

Only the actual Microsoft Xbox 360 Memory Card will work for that. But if you happen to have one, yeah you can make backup copies of your RB Save file by going into the game, then Options -> Manage Data -> Save, select the memory card. If you try to copy it via the Xbox Dashboard, it won't let you. It will only let you Move it there.

Sorry for the threadjack!
