Pretty good list. Usually there is only a few tracks I would get from these lists that people post. I would get at least 15 of these, probably a few more. Really impressed with the Wolfmother-Dimension selection. Thats my favorite song right now.

no I lived through them, not really any good music there cept Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, and Goo Goo Dolls really
i hate green *** with a passion, just like the other boy bands like n sync and backseat boys, the metallica song is one i would rather have the Thin Lizzy version of, and Bon Jovi lost a lot of momentum going into the 90s IMO

After seeing your original list, I can see I should have waited to vote. your list stinks.
Whiskey in the jar as a first pick for Metallica ?
Jenny is a friend of mine for a The Killers ?
There are much better songs by the artists you named that would actually sell. Do you really think "Heartbreaker" would outsell "Love is a Battlefield" ?
Do you really think "Ball and Chain" would be a better pick than "Me and Bobby McGee"? To hell with the hits that everybody will like, just jump right into the b-sides that nobody but die-hard fans know and expect record sales... that makes sense.
the clipped version of your post is the only songs I would even consider buying.

Um, yes. It's a rock-based game, therefore you would pick "rockin" songs over ballads for the most part. Neither of those songs are obscure b-sides, they are classic rock standards.
I thought the list was good for the 60s and 70s, then not so much for the later stuff. Too bad the game is not completely customizable, there's lot of music out there. :D

Heartbreaker was a top 40 hit (#23 on the Billboard charts). Ball and Chain was Janis Joplin's most famous live song and is considered one of the most iconic moments of Woodstock. Metallica's version of Whiskey in the Jar won a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance. JWaFoM isn't the most well-known Killers track, but it was the first track on Hot Fuss, and bands almost always put the song they feel is strongest in that position.
Don't blame me because you're a musical ignoramus and don't be such an idiot that you think artists are limited to one famous/good song each.
And let's be honest, the biggest hits of artists are often softer than their hits that are slightly less well-known. Or do you think Hey Jude or Eleanor Rigby are more suited for Rock Band than Helter Skelter?

I like Ball & Chain, a lot
but it is kinda a lesser known track, maybe Piece of my Heart (imagine the screaming there...) or Try?

I would pay $30 tops. In my opinion, the choices are sub-par. For the bands I love in there, the choices are bad. For the bands I don't like, the choices are pretty bad, too. There are also two or three bands I've never heard of. The amazing thing about Rock Band is that I knew 90% of the songs which is awesome.
Also, "Free Ride" by Edgar Winter is from the '70s, if I'm not mistaken. I would pay a lot for that song. It's always been one of my favorites. Edgar Winter DLC would rock.

No, he's got a point; I only had two metal songs (Maiden and Metallica)
I added two more metal songs by Dio and Megadeth.

Probably like 13 of them. Then again, I'd probably listen to a bunch of them on youtube to see how they would be to play in RB.
They would be:
The Beatles - Helter Skelter
The Allman Brothers Band - Whipping Post
The Beastie Boys - Fight For Your Right (To Party)
Queen - I Want it All
Metallica - Whiskey in the Jar
Nirvana - All Apologies
Green Day - Welcome to Paradise
Weezer - Surf Wax America
Radiohead - Paranoid Android
Blink-182 - What's My Age Again
Muse - Futurism
Coheed & Cambria - Gravemakers & Gunslingers
Dragonforce - Trail of Broken Hearts

that they were singles, doesnt mean they are better known, you ignored my questions about which would sell better (which is the bottom line for the company anyway). Do you REALLY think that Ball and Chain is better known than Me and Bobby McGee ?
Heartbreaker was actually #23 on billboard, but Hit me with your best shot was U.S. Top 10 and Love is a Battlefield was a number 1 hit... so again, which would sell better ?
Jennyw.a.f.o.m. is a fairly good song (IMO) but it is NOT as well known as Smile..., somebody told me, all these things..., and Mr Brightside (all on Hot Fuss as well)
Metallica's version of Whiskey in the Jar is probably the best version of the song, but it is NOT more popular and well known than Master of Puppets, The Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, Until it Sleeps, Mama Said, Fuel, and One. wanna tell me that Whiskey would sell better than any of those ?
Even your Iron Maiden pick is off, do you REALLY think that Track 1 off Piece of Mind would sell bigger than Track 4 ?
Don't blame me because you're a musical ignoramus and don't be such an idiot that you think artists are limited to one famous/good song each.
try again, stupid, I own more music than you've heard of, I am probably 16 years your senior, and being a midday producer for a Florida radio station that is strong in ratings, I think I have a decent hold on what people want when it comes to music.
The problem isn't that you have bad taste its that you built a set list of songs that less than a quarter of the audience is even going to know (bear in mind that more than half the players are 16-18 years old), never mind ignoring the bigger hits that would sell much better. If you are going to pretend to be a big boy salesman, try selling a product that consumers are going to want, not what YOU want.
And let's be honest, the biggest hits of artists are often softer than their hits that are slightly less well-known. Or do you think Hey Jude or Eleanor Rigby are more suited for Rock Band than Helter Skelter?
Honestly, if it were up to me there wouldnt be a single Beatles song on the list, but like I said... personal taste is not what makes sales go up. Helter Skelter is actually one of the few good picks you actually came up with.
...and yes biggest hits sell better than slightly less well-known.

Oh, well if it sells better, that changes everything! Listen to Complete Control, My Iron Lung, The Spirit of Radio, bla bla bla, please. It's not about sales, it's about an enjoyable experience.
Since you've got such a boner for Love is a Battlefield, look here (http://www.fretplay.com/tabs/b/benatar_pat/love_is_a_battlefield-crd.shtml)
Then look at Heartbreaker here (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/p/pat_benatar/heartbreaker_solo_tab.htm).
Which do you think is better for an instrument driven game centered around rock music? Not better as in would sell better, but what would create a more enjoyable game experience? The poppy synth-driven song that's all chords or the rock song with a good-sized guitar solo and a lot of drum fills?
Not all of the songs I chose are the most famous from that particular artist, but almost all of them have a guitar solo or an interesting drum beat or a good bassline or a catchy chorus or more than one of those.
try again, stupid, I own more music than you've heard of, I am probably 16 years your senior, and being a midday producer for a Florida radio station that is strong in ratings, I think I have a decent hold on what people want when it comes to music.
What's good to listen to and what's good to play don't always intersect. Baseball and basketball are both sports, but remember Michael Jordan's stint in MLB?
I've tried to balance it, but really, I put precedence on songs that would be fun to play, because it's a game, not a soundtrack. Substance trumps style.
I could have a lot of songs with straight eighth notes for guitar and a basic rock beat on drums that were incredibly popular, and let's be honest, it'd probably sell better because consumers don't care about researching a product, but where's the fun in that? Save the songs like Love is a Battlefield for Karaoke Revolution because vocals are the only instrument where popularity makes even a fraction of a difference.
You can blather on about popularity and whoring out the game to the lowest common denominator, but my setlist would be more enjoyable than anything you'd come up with.

Flame wars aside, this is a good point to keep in mind. I NEVER would have played, let alone bought this game if it was all top 40 hits. And I don't think I'm alone. Also, I don't think Harmonix is as focused on selling "hit" downloads as some people seem to think, or else they wouldn't have picked a classic, yet still "underground" album such as Doolittle as a download.
The game is about celebrating rock music, which is what makes it cool. Thankfully, it was not created by daytime radio producers.

yeah, thank god, because people like myself would have been selfish and put out "Who's next" and "Nevermind" instead of the long awaited Judas Priest and The Pixies Albums... God knows we dont want the fans of this game to actually get what they have been asking for (over and over for months), when we can dump an album with one well known song and nothing else for the general public.
Hell, why stop there? lets just pick 52 unknown garage bands and use track 1 from all their demos. A buddy of mine has a band called Guernica up in NY, they are a really good hardcore band... I'd bet many of you would like them, so why not just dump them in too? that will sell good right ? because I am friends with the drummer.

your wrong about everything you said up there a lot of 16-18 year olds know this music and perfer it over modern crap im 15 and all i listen to is stuff like iron maiden,Led Zeppelin,AC\DC, and all the other great bands he posted up infact most the posts on this site are about getting bands that he posted on rock band so instead of being a money desperet corprate pig who thinks he knows what people like. try reading more of the posts on this web site
WOW this is a lot of effort. Not that that's a bad thing at all. Ugh, I had typed up a whole evaluation of the list but ultimately I decided I didn't hate any of the songs enough not get the pack (well, weird al is lame, but not enough to warrant losing tons of money)
some brief coments: 60s has some cool variety, the inclusion of a song by Love is probably my favorite choice on this list just because it's an outside pick. 70s-80s is way too heavy on arena rock, 70s in particular is full of guitar-heavy songs with bluesy riffs and heavy soloing. That would be fun as hell since I play guitar, but it's a bit homogenous. 90s is a solid list, no real complaints there, it's mostly obvious picks but the 90s weren't totally great for rock otherwise so it's fine. I don't like most of the 00s songs at all, but whatever, I can deal with them. Haven't heard the bonus songs, but they're bonus songs, so if they aren't that great I can still let it slide.
One thing to note, though, is that the list is really america-centric for the most part. Yeah, America is a pop culture giant but there are bands from other countries too! :)

If it was "two girls and darkangel," there would have been 50 cups, because that's how full of sh-t you are.
Like somebody who thinks like you would even offer albums in the first place. Looking at your posts, you seem to think album tracks and B-sides aren't worth the expense it takes to make them. You'd take one look at the sales figures and offer a three-pack of All-American Rejects because that's what's selling best, and since money > quality, that must mean the AAR are better than Boston or The Grateful Dead or Rush.
Don't need to waste time on horrible songs like Bargain or Going Mobile, am I right or am I right? Good job, lads: cigars all around; who's Pink?

Except we are not talking about album sales, ******. we are talking about SINGLES sales on a video game that is supposed to reach more than just a couple guys who's taste runs deeper than the average top 100 hit.

But I guess the actual poll in this thread proves nothing anyway right? since it shows that more of the people would rather buy the OP's **** pack, track by track, than save a few bucks and buy the whole thing in bulk.
Also, for the hundreds and hundreds of phone calls we take during my shift, 90% is top hits we already play. Most stations deal with this. If you play 3 Metallica songs an hour, you recieve 40 calls asking for Master of Puppets and maybe 2 asking for Whiskey in the Jar. I deal with songs track by track and listeners who are making demands for those tracks (and my customers are not even paying us their hard earned money)

radio station requests do not equal rock band dlc
radio station near me (i stopped listening to it) played crazy train every hour, by request, its not on rock band, you know why? cuz there are better and more FUN songs to play than just what some schmucks who dont have anything better to do than call a crappy radio station for lame songs that are the only ones theyve heard of, which is why they are calling in the requests in the first place
not every song offered has to be a big hit (Siva, anyone?, Truth Hits Everybody? China Cat Sunflower? SAINTS OF LOS ANGELES?) all those songs are very fun to play, but I'm sure not many people know them very well, and they werent high charting singles (esp. crue, considering its not even released yet)
also, you think everyone who bought Rock Band originally liked the entire setlist?
how many ppl you think would still have gotten Dead on Arrival?
so,while WingsofSteel released a setlist of songs that would not only appeal to a large audience, covered many genres and decades, put out songs that would be FUN, you can go create your own thread
call it ROCK BAND: ****!

War pigs by Black Sabbath... you probably would have picked "The Lawmaker" or some other **** song from TYR
"Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart" ... not a first pick for STP but better than anything you would have come up with and big enough of a hit to sell.
Of the 98 songs they produced for that game, I would have found better picks for about 15... as opposed to 18 of your 58 that are even worth keeping. But I guess that is why you are suited best for flipping burgers and dreaming of making setlists rather than actually making them.

Xandria - Kill the Sun (http://youtube.com/watch?v=SzScL-id0UU)
Premise: The main-list songs cost $1.50 each, and the bonus songs cost $0.50 each. The 58-song pack costs $50, a whopping savings of $20.
I would rather have these couple of changes in some of the songs from these artist for the originals and maybe change acouple of the Bands to one of this one since hasn't been in the game and seems like would be very Fun song to play .IMO
The Who-My Generation
Janis Joplin-Piece of My Heart
The Rolling Stones-It's Only Rock & Roll But I Like It
CreedenceClearwaterRevival-Run Through The Jungle
Instead of The Clash- Aerosmith-Toy's In The Attic
Dio-Holy Diver
Metallica-Disposable Heroes
Instead of Muse- Motorhead-We Are The Road Crew
Instead of the Yeah Yeahs-Ozzy Osbourne-Mr. Crowley
Add a few to the bonus songs
Pink-Stupid Girls
Ram Jam-Black Betty
Rob Zombie-Never Gonna Stop
Train-Meet Virginia
Europe-The Final Countdown
Jimi Hendrix-The Wind Cries Mary
Other than that I would likely get all the songs . But would enjoy it much more with these few changes .IMO

actualy the GH2 list wasnt to bad.
War pigs by Black Sabbath... you probably would have picked "The Lawmaker" or some other **** song from TYR
"Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart" ... not a first pick for STP but better than anything you would have come up with and big enough of a hit to sell.
Actually, I would've gone with Fairies Wear Boots from Paranoid or Into the Void or Children of the Grave from Masters of Reality for Sabbath.
And I'd probably stick with Trippin' for STP because the only other STP song I know that has a guitar solo is Vasoline and Trippin's solo is better. Of course, somebody like you with such a fine grasp on music would know that Interstate Love Song has the best guitar. Why? Because it's so popular!
Of the 98 songs they produced for that game, I would have found better picks for about 15... as opposed to 18 of your 58 that are even worth keeping. But I guess that is why you are suited best for flipping burgers and dreaming of making setlists rather than actually making them.
1. How many of my songs have you listened to? Or have you just assumed that every song you haven't heard already is worthless? Man, I don't know why I put YouTube links on my songs. (I don't blame people for not listening to all of them, it's four hours long, but could you just click on a few you've never heard of to see that I do know what I'm talking about when it comes to things that would be fun on guitar and drums?)
2. Was that your opinion on GH2 before you played through the songs? Since you'd never heard of Gemini before GH2, it was obviously terrible and you were completely justifies by how unfun it was, right?
3. Never mind that I have a number-one hit, Hang On Sloopy. Never mind that I have some extremely popular songs, like Alive, Everlong, Paranoid Android, We're Not Gonna Take It, Fight For Your Right, It's Only Rock 'n Roll, White Room, The Spirit of Radio.
4. Never mind the guitar solos in Dry County, it wasn't You Give Love A Bad Name so they can't be any good. Never mind the drum intro of Where Eagles Dare, the guitar solo of Stick Around for Rock 'n Roll, the bassline of Welcome to Paradise, they aren't the most famous songs their bands have to offer? Who cares about fun when you can have songs you hear five times a day on the radio? Bring on Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Hey There Delilah!
5. You still haven't told me how much you love my other list (http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48648).

no I lived through them, not really any good music there cept Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, and Goo Goo Dolls really
i hate green *** with a passion, just like the other boy bands like n sync and backseat boys,
GREEN DAY IS NOT A F****NG BOY BAND YOU JACK*SS!!!
Not by any stretch of anyone's imagination except for yours! ANYONE, that was calling boy bands "boybands" were calling them that because they were first of all boys. . . As you mentioned NSync, Backstreet BOYS, 98 Degrees, etc. . .
All of these bands didn't have enough musical talent to even hold a guitar and were all cover models for Tiger Beat or former Mouseketeers. They were pretty boys chosen by the recording industry to sell music to 11-14 year old girls. They were also chosen for their clean cut look. Green Day was named after the bands affinity for pot. Not very clean cut. . . unless your talking about how they harvested their bud.
Green Day on the other hand writes, plays and records their own music. Billy Joe Armstrong is probably older than you are (he was born in 1972). He's also written songs for The Go-Go's, Rancid and Ryan Adams. Name one song actually written by Justin Timberlake or any of that ilk?
The band was formed in 1987, a full ten years before any boy band of the 90's had any real success. Unless you want to count Boyz II Men or New Kids on The Block. . . but once again, talentless face men who were handed their music and wrote nothing.
What am I missing here that makes you think that they are a boy band other than that they are all male? I guess by your definition Metallica, Nirvana, U2 and I guess even Led Zeppelin would all be boy bands (all of them started playing together in their early teens).
Shut the hell up unless you can make an intelligent argument!

I love the inclusion of Proto-Kaw in that list too, but knowing the giant Kansas fan you are, it seemed imminent
the Outlaws song you picked kicks ass, wouldn't be my first pick <a href="http://www.last.fm/music/The+Outlaws"> Knoxville Girl </a href>, but I love the fact it is in there
good Derek and the Dominoes track, wouldn't even have thought of it above Bell Bottom Blues, that entire 60s section you picked is phenomenal
the 80s section is great too
ive already expressed my hatred for most 90s music
and I'm not into a lot of 2000s music, so no say for me there
I would get most of the bonus tracks too, but they need to be at a lower cost prolly
I would actually like to include some blues-rock or fusion into the bonus for real, and some more prog. rock (just cuz its SOOOO popular, lol) b/c it is challenging, but still fun

Boy, is my face red. I just changed it to White Room and switched it with the Stones to get It's Only Rock and Roll in the 70s and a Clapton song into the 60s.

$0.50 isn't low enough?

Like Sold Your Soul by Brian Kahanek?

Yeah. Maybe I'll switch out Child of Innocence with Roundabout to appease Mr. Popularity Contest.

Could care less what the set list is... as long as I don't have to buy a second game and switch discs bassed on songs... I will continue to buy all the DLC! The day a RB2 is announced that does not support dlc from 1 I will stop buying DLC.

.50 is perfectly low, but im sayin HMX would prolly never make it that low
Brian Kahanek is excellent, but like I said, more
any prog. is better than none (which is basically the game right now)

Of course, somebody like you with such a fine grasp on music would know that Interstate Love Song has the best guitar. Why? Because it's so popular!
it sold over 72000 copies ... so yeah, it is popular.
1. How many of my songs have you listened to? Or have you just assumed that every song you haven't heard already is worthless? Man, I don't know why I put YouTube links on my songs. I know most of those songs, stupid. Its not about what YOU think would be fun... I can come up with hundreds of songs I'd find fun, but they wont sell to enough people to be worth the effort and cost for the copyright. that's the point.
2. Was that your opinion on GH2 before you played through the songs? Since you'd never heard of Gemini before GH2, it was obviously terrible and you were completely justifies by how unfun it was, right?
90% of the "extra" songs in ever version of GH and now RB sucked. They were added to introduce people to these bands or just to be silly. Thats why there is only about 20 songs per game. Now look at the stats for some of those same bands when they were offered as DLC... The HMX pack only did ok because the price was so low (just like I'm alive because it was free).
3. Never mind that I have a number-one hit, Hang On Sloopy. Never mind that I have some extremely popular songs, like Alive, Everlong, Paranoid Android, We're Not Gonna Take It, Fight For Your Right, It's Only Rock 'n Roll, White Room, The Spirit of Radio.
yeah, and those are the only songs you would be able to sell.
4. Never mind the guitar solos in Dry County, it wasn't You Give Love A Bad Name so they can't be any good. Learn reading comprehension, please. I never said it wasn't popular; I said it didn't have very fun guitar, especially compared to a song like Trippin'.

Silly me, thinking that music was an important part of a music game. It's obviously all about the money. Let's release some All-American Rejects six-packs and call it a day.

Now, arrange your setlist from tier 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9 for guitar, drums, and vocal solo tour and ill be interested to see how it plays out.
My only gripe is there a ton of other styles of 00's music you dont even touch, and Im not even talking about metal.
I dont think you have as well rounded out genre-spread as you should, either.

Tell me, when did HMX change "Your Ultimate Setlist" to "Setlists That Appeal To Everyone?"
Because if you had any reading comprehension, you'd realize that I'm not disagreeing with you that popular songs would sell more.
I'm arguing that these songs have guitar and drums that are more challenging/fun than the big popular hits.
Seriously, it's like I said "The grass is green," and you replied, "Hey, asswad, why don't you get out of your mother's basement? The sky is blue, idiot!"
Get it through your head: I AM NOT TRYING TO CRAFT A SETLIST THAT SELLS THE MOST COPIES, I AM TRYING TO MAKE A SETLIST THAT WOULD BE MORE CHALLENGING TO PLAY. YOU ARE ARGUING AGAINST SOMETHING THAT I NEVER SAID.
