View Full Version : Corrupted DLC?

I just downloaded Date With The Night by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and every time I try to play it, or even listen to the preview, it tells me that this DLC has changed, and the game cannot continue. I've tried re-downloading it, but it doesn't help. I also got to play it all the way through once before it started doing this. Anyone know why it's happening?

I've been having major issues with DLC too. Last Train to Clarksville would cut out with that error after the solo, Calling Dr. Love won't even play in menus and it just gives that error, and I have yet to be able to play Date with the Night. It plays back in the menu but it kicks it back while loading.
Redownloading does not work, the downloads all stop at various points and sit at some random % without progressing even after leaving them for many minutes.
Originally I also had a problem with Hard to Handle (would not even play back in menus like Calling Dr. Love) and Time-Sick Son of a Grizzly Bear (would not even download) but those two seem to work now.. i think
What I've done, MANY MANY TIMES, is maintenance on the hard drive - under the far right blade in the Dashboard select memory, highlight the hard drive, press Y, then press X, X, left trigger button, right trigger button, X, X (note: not the triggers but the buttons above them) and it should ask to perform maintenance. This resets a bunch of stuff including patches which have to be reapplied.
But every time I did that it seemed like different problems arise. One time when I did it, Rock Band tried to re update and it said "Update could not be found". Then, after the next attempt at maintenance, it got the update but after updating said "disc is unreadable" immediately upon trying to load the game, every single time. Next maintenance got it to work again.
Something is definitely very screwy with Rock Band's DLC because apparently a handful of people are having this issue now.
The exact error is something like "the song data has become unavailable and the game cannot proceed without that data." or something really close to that, and it kicks you back to the Rock Band title screen (press start to continue).
edit: there may be more issues with other songs but it'll take a rigorous runthrough of all of my 70 or so DLC songs, which will take a very long time. ~_~

I don't know what system you're on FramedThief, but if you're on the X360, this answer will apply to both of you:
Go to the Xbox Dashboard, the System Blade. Select Memory, pick your hard drive. Then go into Games and then Rock Band.
In that folder, you'll find a file called Downloaded Song Data, or something very similar to that. Delete that file.
Then go start the game back up again and that error should be gone.

The problem with that is we are talking about content we paid for. Why would we want to just write it off?
What are you talking about? Nobody said anything about writing off anything. Deleting that file will just force your Xbox to rebuild the metadata for songs you have downloaded, thereby removing the "Song data unavailable" error message problem.
This file does not store information about your Marketplace purchases, that's all stored on the XBL server side of things.
You'll still be able to play the songs you paid for, why would you think otherwise?

davidshek, I can't speak for anyone else but I swear to you have done that at least a dozen times including doing the aforementioned hard drive maintenance crap that temporarily even screwed over my game.
I think this may actually be a 360 issue though cause my Guitar Hero III is now doing the same thing with the Def Leppard and Muse song packs... -_______-

My bad. I miss understood and deleted the song in question not the data file you referred to. Works like a charm thank you very much.

Problem "solved"...
We're running into bad sectors on the 360 hard drive.
There is no way to fix this - the 360 has no scandisk/chkdsk utility, but there IS a rather silly workaround.
First of all, delete ALL of the DLC you have that has corrupted in any way.
Now, try to re-download one of them and make a note of the file size and what % the download stops. Let's say it's a 40MB file and it gets to about 25% before hanging. This means there is a bad sector or bad cluster around 10MB into the free space available.
What you can do to work around the issue is re-delete the corrupt DLC, and go into the marketplace. Look through all the free junk offered - 480p trailers tend to be good bets for small sized free DLC. Find something that's 20-50% larger than the "known bad" space - in this case we'd want a 12-15MB file ideally to minimize wasted space on the drive. It will probably fail to download. Either that or it will download successfully but will refuse to play back, generating an error. Leave this file where it is, do not delete this file.
Now, at this point if you seem to have a lot of bad files and thus a lot of corrupted space on the drive, you can do this the fast and fairly humourous way, or you could test it more rigorously.
If you want to do it more rigorously, you can now download the DLC you want and see if it completes. If not, make a note again of where it stops, delete your failed download you want and download another junk free video 20-50% larger than the corrupt zone. Lather, rinse, and repeat until your DLC works and you're past the bad cluster.
Or you could do it my way - instead of testing your DLC every time, just keep downloading 20-50MB videos. They will probably fail to download over and over again. On occasion one may download successfully - don't rejoice yet because it could've just passed over the bad sector. Try to play back any videos that download successfully immediately, if they generate an error you've passed over a bad sector. Once you reach a video that plays back you SHOULD be in the clear - try your wanted DLC again and cross your fingers!
My hard drive took about 200~250MB of junk free video downloads to "bridge" over the bad sectors.
Note that this is NOT a solution to the problem. The bad sectors will still be there. The hard drive WILL need to be replaced because bad sectors tend to spread and get worse over time.
However it will allow you to enjoy the DLC you've purchased. ^^b

It's still doing the error even after the advice and it's really bothering me. Care to help here?

I've got a wacky problem that's frustratingly similar, except I have a PS3. I have 48 downloaded songs, and zero will play. Everytime I open them, it gives me the "song data not available" error and puts me back at the start screen. This is frustrating because I can't play any "mystery song" setlists because odds are it will try and choose a song I no longer have.
In looking at the game data and at the save data, I still have both files holding all the songs on the Ps3? So what can I do???? Please help!

first off do NOT BRING BACK THREADS that are more than 1 month old let alone 6 months old
make sure that you deleted the one for RB or RB2 depending on the game issue
if that doesnt work try redownloading it
