When reading about Amazon's glitch regarding the August 11, 2008 release date, I came across this article.
I don't read too many gaming related websites, so I don't know how credible this is but...
GameAlmighty.com called up Reverb, which is the company doing the PR stuff for Harmonix, and this is what they had to say....
We got on the phone with Reverb Communications, Inc., the PR firm handling Rockband, who dispelled any rumors regarding this internal malfunction from Amazon.com. Tracie Snitker, VP of Public Relations for Reverb, explained that there is in fact no delay on the release date for Rockband. She added there would be an announcement made later this week on the exact release date, which is still on track for November 2007.Please be true.
Please be November 6th.

I think you guys are missing the point. According to this article, by the end of this week WE MIGHT HAVE A DEFINITE RELEASE DATE FROM HMX.
For me, that's very exciting news.

I still want to secretly hope they have some huge announcement to say RB is coming out before GH3. With GH3's date already set, and advertised (the countdown on their site, or something, I guess....I don't know, I've never been there), it'd be a nice kick in the _____ to release RB earlier, and see how GH3 tries to scramble and try to change their already confirmed date.
Likely to happen?
Maybe like a 0.0003% chance.
But I can still have hope.

They are really making a big deal about not confirming the widespread rumor of the nov 20th release date. I hope that this means they're waiting to announce that it is coming out earlier than the 20th.

Yeah really, I mean I know they're working hard and all but I'll be kind of disappointed if it really is 20th and they've just been waiting all this time to tell us. Kind of like holding an ice cream over a fat kid's head and tell him to jump to get it while you have it raised at a level he clearly can't jump to... So yeah, now I feel like a fat kid :( Sad day for me.

Yeah, exactly.
Imagine that they announce tomorrow that the game comes out on Nov 20th, and the SE bundle will be $199.99.
On the one hand, it's nice to have a confirmed date and price. But on the other, I can't help but be a little saddened that it's, in a way, not really news.
That date and price have been speculated for so long, it would be a huge coincidence for HMX to confirm them while insisting they were only recently decided. If they weren't decided recently, why such the long wait to announce them?

Exactly toefer, the Nov 20th date and the 200 price tag have been widespread rumors for the last 2 months or so. I would think that they would've confirmed the nov 20th rumor as being true by now, if it infact was, since so many sources mention it. I figure the 200 dollar price is true but I'm still hoping for an earlier release date, even if it's only a week earlier.

I hope its true, we're due for some news this week or next week I figure. And that would make fairly good news, hopefully along with that is either some new song announcements or price announcements!
I really want it to be November 6th as well, but most likely it will be the 20th.

That'd be really nice, and a lot more unexpected. As I said, if everyone was right about the prices and date, why try to hide it? Only reason I could see for doing that is not know for -sure- if the game is top notch. Honestly a 180 seems a lot more reasonable for the game rather than 200, and the 6th would make my inner clown really happy.
*No i'm not complaining about the price being 200, I just think 180 is a bit more reasonable. As for the PS3 it has wireless, so it should be a bit more than the 360. Don't give one system something special without evening it out, that's just mean :p*

Insofar as the release date goes, my money is on HMX waiting to announce a firm release date until they get word back from the peripheral manufacturers that show them on target for their initial demand numbers.
The game could go gold tomorrow, but if you can't buy a guitar or drums, what good is it?
When China calls and says, "we're XX% done with the initial production run and on schedule for an on-time completion" they'll announce the date.

Why do people keep thinking that they're intentionally hiding or keeping secret the release date and pricing? I think it's fairly obvious that they don't want to announce anything until everything is finalized. Mass producing this game smoothly and figuring out marketing and storage with all the retailers out there is not something that's done in a week. It's taking a long time to get everything finalized. When the last i's are dotted and t's are crossed, we'll know.
They have no reason to simply hide this information from us. The speculation is probably accurate for the most part. I'd guess that the $200 and 11/20 bits are almost exactly correct, but they want to make sure they can pull everything off before they go making definitive announcements.

I think it's more like this:
HMX: You can have Ice Cream tonight.
Fat Kids on the forum: But I want it noooooooowwww!
Game Stop: Ice cream at 7PM!
Fat Kids: Yay!
Amazon: Ice cream at 6:30!
Fat Kids: Yay!
Game Spot: Ice Cream at 7:15!
Fat Kids: *Whine*
Amazon: Ice cream next year!
Fat Kids: HMX is mean...
See what happened there? You listened to the rumor mill, even though their guess is as good as anyone else's, and now you think that HMX has somehow wronged you. Guess what? They haven't!
I have no sympathy for the so-called Fat Kids who have no patience.

Lol wow man, very imaginative. I am patient, I was kidding about feeling like a fat kid. I have Team Fortress and GHIII to hold me over.
Edit: As for the -waiting- to tell us comment. I meant it more as, if they -knew- that it was the release date. I mean if you're 100% sure it's the release date and you just want to hold it back to get people hyped up for it, that's kinda ***? Only reason I'm stating that is because some gaming companies do it with their games. Guess Harmonix is doing the smarter thing though, because half those companies that say "Yeah, it'll be out the 21st of September" or something like that, it usually gets pushed back a few months or even over half a year.

my guess would be they aimed for a nov 6th date, but cant guarantee it because of the production of the drums and guitars for both consoles. so they're playing it safe with the nov 20th date.

Well, as was hinted in Sean's post in the Announcements section, we might have 'something cool to talk about' tomorrow...another omen of this possibly being announced tomorrow. Here's hoping...
Might wanna bring an extra pair of pants to work tomorrow...just in case. :D

Actually, HMX is making a very small deal out of it. It's us making a big deal out of things. Fact is, it's GOOD when they hold off on release dates like this. EA is famous for releasing half finished pieces of sh** for no other reason then they set the release date too early. I'm glad HMX has managed to hold off on committing until they know for sure it's going to be done and good. 1 month out is not abnormal at all for an official release date.
Before the 20th would be cool and all, just don't set your heart on anything.

I agree, you're most likely correct but that seems like a half assed business strategy to me. If they're still working out logistics still at this time that's sad. A production calendar is something that should have been produced as soon as the game was announced and they have had months to work out these details including production of peripherals.
Deep inside I still think it's gonna be delayed.....

Obviously you don't work in the software business :D
Planning when a software product will be released is extremely tricky. You can come up with estimates, but there are inevitable delays, bugs crop up unexpectedly and require further testing cycles, and features that seemed feasible on the drawing board turn out to be much more complex to implement than you first thought. You can plan distribution, packaging, and so on in advance, but if the software product itself isn't done those dates don't mean much.
Anyway, why is it so important to know the exact date? Are you planning a vacation around it (I wouldn't recommend that in any case - there are too many sob stories on game forums about people who scheduled a week of vacation to play a game on release date only to find that the game was delayed at the last minute).

Well, I definitely care, too. I want it bad, real bad. I guess I've just achieved a higher state of consciousness  in which I realize that knowing the date isn't going to change the fact that I will still get it the day it comes out, and not a day sooner.
I am reminded of the South Park episode in which Carman is counting the seconds waiting for the Wii to come out. It's an embarrassingly accurate portrayal of the gamer awaiting his beloved, though I doubt many gamers have actually frozen themselves in a desperate attempt to arrive at release day faster.
