do we have one? well, if we do, we still got a week of regular season play! so there shoudlnt!

Also, do we really have that many baseball fans on here? I doubt it, but, personally I love baseball! My team, however is out of all contention (the Astros) but it's incredible that there is no team under .400 or over .600, such a competitive season!

AL East: Red Sox or Yankees, the other gets the wildcard, Yankees closed a 14.5 game lead to 2 games, the division is definitely going to the Sox.

NL East: Mets, Phillies, Braves: Mets are unable to do much lately, this september skid has been horrible for the Mets. The Phillies are hot, though winning 8 of their last 11. And the braves, probably the unlikely candidate, but still playing their hearts out

AL Central: Indians, Book it. Done. Probably gonna lose to the Yankees.

NL Central: Cubs or Brewers, Brewers blew what seemed to be their season, the Cubs are red hot this september, and they're probably gonna win the division

AL West: Angels. Clinched. Done. Shold be an incredible ALDS w/ Sox v. Angels!

NL West: Diamondbacks, Padres: This is going to the D-Backs, Padres are 2 games back, probably not gonna do much with that with only like, 4 games to play.

AL Wildcard: Yankees. Book It. Done.

NL Wildcard: Padres, Phillies, Rockies, Braves. Incredible, the most interesting race this september, the unlikely rockies have won 9 in a row, and have momentum on their side. They may or may not win the Wild Card, but whatever happens, their run was simply incredible!

I happen to be a huge mets fan. I'm pretty sure that despite their awful play lately they will still win the division. The magic number is now down to 5 and for the Phillies to win the division they will basically have to have a perfect rest of the season. Luckily they have a harder schedule then the mets so who knows what can happen.

The only thing I'm looking forward to in the post season is the ending of the MLB season.

Between 2 months of playoffs, 5 months of regular season, spring training, "hot stove", winter meetings, World Baseball Classic, steroids investigations, Roger Clemmens' eternal retirement party, and a million other events, the damn sport is constantly making noise about itself.

Even the NFL is smart enough to SHUT UP AND DIE for a few months a year... it's a shame MLB can't take the hint and do the same.

Other gripes of mine relating to the MLB:

* Corrupt/inept commissioner

* 160+ games of regular season... "every game counts" except that you can sluff off for weeks if not months. Teams do not give their best performance or full effort every game.

* Lack of a cohesive salary cap system. The small market teams (Devil Rays, Royals, Marlins, etc) are at such a competitive disadvantage. They exist as a sort of "farm system" for up and coming stars before they sign up with "top shelf" franchises that can out-spend them 10 to 1.

Don't get me wrong, I love baseball. In my crap town, the college world series is the best event going and I enjoy it every year. However, once baseball gets taken to the MLB level, it represents everything I detest about professional sports. As for my picks.. the Yankees appear to have momentum, and that's everything in the post season. I would prefer the Red Sox, because I like their roster and team chemistry. My outside darkhorse is the Cubs, just because I like Pinella, Soriano, and Zambrano.

^ exactly. tired of turning on ESPN at midnight and having to go through 1 hr of baseball tonight. idk maybe i'm just tuning in on the wrong time but it seems to me that ESPN airs more **** about baseball than football even during football season.

besides the astros didn't make the playoffs (again) so idc about baseball anymore. RIP craig biggio

Tell me - whats the difference between girly rounders and baseball? I honestly don't know. Its considered very effeminent (spell check?) to play rounders, so just wondered the difference.

This is a Red Sox fan saying this but I don't think the Red Sox are strong enough to make it to the world series. If they do make it they'll win with ease because no NL team is even close to being on par with Red Sox. Yankees vs. Red Sox WILL be the ALDS, as always. The Cubs are a weak team and I cannot see them standing a chance against teams like the Mets, D-Backs or even the Phillies/Padres/Rockies. The Cubs are by far the weakest team in the NL playoffs and the only reason there in is because of their weak devision. Hell the Blue Jays would be the best team in the NL Central and they suck.

aww maan, it REALLY sucks that Biggio's last year had to suck this badly, even i he hit 3000, was all for nothing cause he wont see October. oh well.. at least they fired Jason Lane! a step in the right direction, maybe Burke and Scott will find new homes next season. Anderson and Pence are promising, hopefully they dont start to suck it up. And hopefully they get rid of Munson, too, Wandy Rodriguez, Matt Albers, Woody Williams, Jason Jennings.... just rebuild, the team is complete crap and SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE.

If it were up to me,

1B: Berkman
2B: New Player, no Burke.
SS: Everett
3B: Wigginton
C: Towles/Ausmus
LF: Lee
CF: Anderson or Free Agent
RF: Pence, Berkman or a free agent

Only keep Oswalt and Backe in the rotation, Maybe keep Jennings, big maybe there.

First, I've got to say that the playoff game between the Rockies and the Padres on Monday night was probably one of the best and most exciting games I've ever seen. It's probably next to when I got to see the Twins win game six of the World Series in 1987. The excitement I felt when Kent Hrbek hit the grand slam and the place totally erupted can't be matched. Gotta love a crowd and stadium that can reach 110 decibels.

On Monday, watching Holliday hit the triple to tie the game in the bottom of the 13th was pretty crazy too. Too bad I was not actually at the game.

So, what are picks for the first round?

NL
Rockies over the Phillies in 4. Could be a tough series, but living in Colorado now, I'm kinda partial to them. Plus they seem to be really enjoying playing ball which really tends to help a team.

Cubs over Arizona in 5. A tough one to call, neither team has been playing especially well lately. The Cubs probably want it more, just to break the trail of misery.

AL - I have to admit, I have not followed the AL that closely this year.

Yankees over the Indians in 4. The Yanks always seem to step it up for the playoffs, and they've been playing pretty strong the last month.

Angels and Red Sox - A tossup. I know the Red Sox struggled toward the end of the season especially when they were beat up by the Yankees. I may still have to give the edge to the Red Sox in five due to home field advantage.

HPLabonte
10-03-2007, 07:18 AM
yeah the rox/pads game was incredible, almost as awesomely epic as the Astros/Braves NLDS Game 5 in 2005, 18 innings in awesome.

my picks:

NLDS
Rox over Phils in 4
AZ over CHC in 3

ALDS:
NYY over CLE in 3
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, California, America, Earth over BOS in 5

NLCS: Rox over D-Backs in 6
ALCS: NYY over LAACAE in 7

WS: NYY over ROX in 4

Yea it was friggin awesome! I wasn't thrilled with Dice-K's performance, but Okaji and Paps held it off and they won with a signature walk-off homerun as usual! Only this time it wasn't Papi. Makes me wonder if they'll still walk him next time.

I think here is something you people are forgetting that have the Sox losing in the World Series.

We spent 70 million dollars over 5 years for the man they call J.D. Drew. Just look at the interleague play. He completely destroyed pitchers from the N.L. and clearly has a certain comfort level with them. He had the game of his life down in Arizona (3 for 5, 2HR, 7RBI) He played his first 9 years in the N.L and the two previous years before this one in the NL West (Dodgers).

If you ask me, thats clearly money well spent. :p

I'm sorry, I'm just trying to rationalize on how they gave this man this much money. There has to be some redeeming reason. He hit 20% of his home runs and more than 10% of his RBI's for the whole season in this one game!!

MartyMcFly
10-10-2007, 08:22 AM
^^ wow, finally someone giving J.D. Drew respect!

I think he's important too. Just the same as Mike Lowell batting against them, and even Beckett pitching against them. We have a good mix of players. I have full confidence and faith of the Sox going all the way.
